    I think this means that we still inherently need our group, our people, our tribe. And if the group we're in isn't right for us, then we need to go out and find our tribe.

      Spot on, we're hardwired to seek status and belonging... Let's make sure it's in the right place. The luxury of modern society is that there's plenty of choice!

    It explains why having a baseline of in-group conformity matters, but it doesn't fully explain the drive to "climb" the status ladder, why jealousy and envy exist.

      Yes it does, the deeper you get into the in-group, the further away you get from the predators, and if people are intentionally or unintentionally blocking your path into the depths of the in-group, they are potentially indirectly throwing you to the predators.
