I really like how you still cover the same steps you have done in other videos (holsters, grenades, etc) because it means someone new to your tutorials still gets a whole tutorial instead of suddenly being told to watch a different video, and it goes by quick enough that it isn't a bother to people that have seen the other tutorials already
appreciate you recognizing that. i’m trying to keep these painting guides self contained for specific legions. lot of people only watch stuff for what they are specifically building so want to make resources for everyone.
Hey man, fantastic work as always. Just a small tip. When youre doing the FX for the Bolters is should be more like 50cal assets and less of small arms fie
First of all, sir, your miniatures are sublime. Second, thank you for putting in all the work and making this look so cool. The throwback to the old Forge World books is amazing!
Gotta say, I prefer your recipe much more than the deeper green of the Salamanders most people paint. That army/olive green not only looks fantastic, but also works better at differentiating Salamanders from the 40k Dark Angels.
Had an absolute horrific day at work, but seeing this video in my feed has instantly made me feel better. I love how these guys turned out, and it makes me wish that I collected Salamanders. I think I want to paint random flames on some of my marines now. Thanks for sharing!
thank you- battle reports are coming. next cthonia episode required quite a bit of word bearers and some unique scenery pieces - almost done with it all. have the episode written out and am working on the intro already
i love the paint job. especially the mix of metallics on the trim. that was a really nice detail. with my salamanders i usually use Vulcan green, with a dry brush of elysian green, then another dry brush of moot green. then i clean up the flat panels with a thin coat of vulcan green. that way i get a nice darker color to my salamanders, while still having some nice bright highlights so they're more recognizable
Yes! Another video from my favorite Heresy channel! Its funny but I usually do the contrary: veterans with the older Mk of armor and new recruits/inductii with Mk6 as it makes sense vets would have already an older Mk they are used fighting with.
i normally do that too but was feeling the legion specific mkVI helmets and was listening to an audio book in the shattered legions collection where the salamanders get new “inferior” mkV armor post istvaan. i see these guys as freshly outfitted
I love your videos man. It's always a good kick in the butt to start painting my own stuff. You make it so simple and accessible, but still look so good.
thank you. i always try and make things as simple as possible. often planning and committing to a simple repeatable scheme is the difference between a fully painted and partially painted army
This is simply the best painting and hobby chanel ever. The bat reps are magnificent and the painting is very inspiring. I would love to hear your thoughts on putting together a thematic list or hobby workflow i.e. inspiration to project flow for example. You give me so many ideas but I would some inspiration on actually executing it
thats a great idea. I'll do this with the next legion i introduce after the stuff in the pipeline. Thats a great idea to do a video more around doing an army from inspiration to table top. There is a lot that goes into army composition that is often never really touched on. thank you
they are coming with death guard - just trying to get the shattered legions infantry videos out so i can do a battle report with them. the iron hands and salamanders combine with my raven guard and make a really cool shattered legions force.
so much variation to it. I actually had a pretty big salamanders army when HH1.0 and the Forge World team had a more drag green like my models. I sold the infantry but kept the vehicles and am painting up new infantry with the new plastics and painting them in my old recipe. Seems GW is going a more dark green now with their studio armies.
working on the terrain still for the next siege of cthonia episode - had to build a fortress and a few other terrain pieces for it - painting up a few squads and then we are ready to play. have it all written and am going to start working on the intro tomorrow
i have a contemptor video i want to do that will be Imperial fists. want to do an entire talon. could probably fit a Raven guard contemptor with their painting guide coming next. it’s a veteran squad with the new melee weapon sprue
Great video as always. Can't wait to see more and the next part of the Siege of Cthonia. I know it's unlikely since it's not really a Heresy thing and I doubt any of the Black Books go into it but I'd love to see how you'd do Luna Wolves with your method of painting
i’d love to do some luna wolves - closest thing will likely be the transitional scheme seen in the forge world horus heresy book 7 where they look like luna wolves but have sea green shoulder pauldrons
I am actually using your videos as guides for my future horus heresy marines because i think they are awesome. But i was wondering if you could show us how you paint your ultramarines next? I would love to see how you do it. Thanks and great video!.
Awesome! Really love how you still go over the same steps that you covered in your previous videos. It makes it easy for someone who just found your channel pick up on your techniques, and I wish other painting RUclipsrs would do that. Just out of curiosity, what's the music that you have playing in the background?
11:08 I saw that guy with the cape. I hope to see more of him. Anyway, my salamanders will by disciples of the flame themed with some scattered iron hands, raven guard, and iron warriors mixed in. They’ll still have lizard skin, fire, and lava on their armor of course.
disciples are super cool. you can really dial the flames up on them. I have Cassian Dracos here. i grinded the genestealers off his shoulder armor and he is ready for paint.
@@heresyera I'm experimenting with mordian earth to try to get a lava effect on some of the flatter pannels. It's not there yet, but the idea is kind of working.
Is that a Praetor with the Mantle of the Elder Drake at 11:05? Wished we'd gotten a close up on him. Love the green, it's more drab that bright, which I'm attempting myself. Really looking forward to seeing them in action. ❤🔥 Already waiting in anticipation for your next Battle Rep.
Yes it is. You can see the same praetor in the intro. I ended up swapping the plasma pistol you see around 11 minute mark to a stormshield for maximum beatstick praetor. The green color is inspired by the original forge world salamanders scheme. You will see these guys in a side battle report as part of a shattered legions force. While the new controversial rules are not ideal for events, I think they will be absolutely fantastic in a narrative battle report setting.
Another great painting video. Although I must say something about that shade of green on Salamanders looks off. Though that might be because my dad painted Salamanders and if they don't look like his Salamanders then they don't look right to me.
i will get to them when i do a campaign that features them. right now finishing the cthonia legions ( More Alpha legion, dark angels, sons of horus) and am buttoning up the shattered legions ( raven guard) for a side project. want to do a mini shattered legions series alongside cthonia so i can get more battle reports out. cthonia is very large scale and demands more production / more time. A small shattered legions series would allow me to fill in the gaps between the large cthonia episodes. some people have suggested signus prime and Calth as the next large campaigns
Im doing a pretty basic force as I want to use them for Istvaan5 and other missions. keeping them fairly generic lets them fit into that role easier. I do have Cassian Dracos here. I got the model when he went on Last Chance to buy. I will be painting him. It could be a cool project to do him and like a 10 man squad of Disciples of the Flame and Xiaphas Jurr. Also be cool to do some Iron Warriors and Narik Deygur - think his model fits in with the new plastics scale. .
I’ve always wondered why people prefer to make Salamanders veteran squads’ helmets green, the canon describes them as having gold helmets and it looks so freaking cool with the green armor.
i thought about painting the face shields on the helmets brass like the forge world plates but i felt it would look weird with the mk6 helmets. liber astartes now has vets with brass faces and also with red helmet stripes
so the storm eagle kit WAS awful when it came out. straightening the resin hulls to match with the plastic hull was always super labor intensive. some of the later production ones have been a lot better. i love them so much though. done 4-5x of them.
Yes, they are Forge World Horus Heresy books from Horus Heresy 1.0. They are loaded with lore, color plates, and inspiration. Best campaign books Games Workshop has ever produced. You can get them on Ebay or if you look hard enough find PDF's.
