Great video. Instead of using heat to remove the battery adhesive, you can simply put a few drops of 90%+ isopropyl alcohol in the bottom corners and the top left corner of the battery container, tilt the phone around so the alcohol reaches most of the adhesive, wait 5 minutes and pry to remove the battery. Don't buy "genuine" battery for a Note 9. Samsung stopped making these in 2019, so a genuine Battery is already 3 years old, or a cheap chinese fake battery. Get a known aftermarket Battery. Had this with my Note 4 (now Note 9 owner and 3 guesses why i am here). After 3 Years i bought a "genuine Samsung" Battery. Started to die after 8 Month, then i got an Anker Battery for it and it was still running well 2 years later when the Note 4 died.
I hate that companies do this. I used to have a note 4 and all you had to do was remove the back cover and replace the battery. It literally took 20 seconds. This is just insane.
I did not need to remove the bottom section to remove the battery. But excellent video though. For those afraid to try, this is nothing compared to replacing the front glass. So use some sort of case and don't break it!
My Note 9 is already starting to separate from the back. This is not just a Note 9 issue. It can happen on any phone. If this happens to your phone (or to your laptop) - it is because of battery bulge. The battery needs replacement.
Holy Crap! Super impressive video that explains in great detail a complete step by step instructional tutorial that makes it easy to understand and follow along. One of the best tutorials I have ever seen and I subscribed immediately!
Jesus Christ. You have to have a fricking Engineering degree just to get the fricking battery out of it. If I have to go through all this just to change the battery, then I'm thinking Samsung needs to design these newer phones better so that parts that wear out are easier to replace. I've had this phone 8 months, and the battery doesn't hold a charge like it did when I bought it...maybe half as long...and having gone from a Galaxy S5 to this, and going from a battery that could be changed out in under a minute, to one that takes 20 fricking tools and 12 hours just to get to, is not an improvement in my book. You shouldn't need to go buy $200 worth of equipment just to replace a damn battery. This is ridiculous and stupid.
It is far and away the best video on the web that shows how the Note 9 is constructed, and how to replace the battery. There is only one part you left out, and that is how to convert the Note 9 to a removable battery phone.
Part of the closing procedure is to actually heat the phone again to have the adhesive soften and bind. Also, if the adhesive strip is damaged when taking the phone apart, a new one is required. This should be mentioned as it is a real and a very probable issue. Also putting a new adhesive strip in place is going to be a challenge for some.
GRIMM WESSEN no this is never water proof phone at all just water resistant. Obviously this was designed to make phone repairs extremely difficult. A simple battery replacement can wreck your phone especially for this overpriced unit! It does not justify the water resistant feature ( There are a lot of alternate ways, one of w/c is nano coating like what Moto G did before ). If majority of people are sensible and not desencitized. These type of phone should be boycotted. Obviously this was designed to have profit and control at all cost!
Much appreciated. Rather pay someone than screw it up. Love my note9. But its getting paid off in 2 months and want to give it to a friend that can't afford high-end phones.
So in the process of changing my battery I 'burned' the front screen on my phone. The phone works but there is a sizeable yellow spot when it's on. Can that be replaced?
I've seen online some extra capacity batteries for the note 9 are they safe? I have changed my battery in November but now the capacity is at 85% and it's discharging much faster. To make it worse now with the pandemic I charge my phone 2 times a day even 3 sometimes
Hi, great video! Thanks a lot!! - QUESTIONS: 1- I followed your battery link to Amazon, but the battery is not a genuine Samsung like in your video! I still wasn't able to find a "Samsung" branded battery for the Note 9. Could you provide a link to get one like in your video? 2- After replacing the battery, will the Note 9 loose the IP68 Rating, right? How and what can I do to keep it at the highest water & dust resistance possible level as before? Will the glue at edges glue again the rear cover just that easy? Please take into account that I'm very careful, but I don't work on phone service professionally, nor have professional equipment. Thank you very much once again!
This phone? 90% of phone now since 2015 to onwards opens up like this. Thats how they make em IP68 water resistant. Plus makes extra money on battery exchange.
Didn't this phone just get shown for the media? How did you acquire one to pull apart already? Great video, for when it's needed in 2 years from now xD
Quick fact not many of this tear down Channels mention but only people who repair phones know is that Once the battery is take it off from the phone its not useful anymore, why? Because in order to extract the battery you need to apply force and bend the battery which creates a reaction that makes the battery expand and it will start to swelling once is installed so keep in mind that if you need to extract the battery you yes or yes need a new battery to replace, the phone will not explode because Samsung batterys are in another level in terms of security but naturally will expand and the back glass would brake or not close properly
Thanks, for clear instructions. Do you think a regular hair dryer will actually achieve needed temperature? Have you tried it with a hair dryer? Can you damage phone by accidently over heat.

Thanks for the very educational video. I kust replace the battery of my wife's Note 9. However, the back cover adhesive sticker could not be reused like you said, but had to be replaced. Maybe notify your viewers that it is best to order a battery sticker replacement and a back cover sticker replacement. Replacement of the stickers is fairly easy, though it might require some elbow grease to completely remove the old sticker from the cover.
Good point. But I actually managed to reuse my back cover stickers. I guess all those years of fixing iPhone 4s paid off. I called it my fleet of Frankenphones. =)
sanjay neelam they wont because of one word = greed. I was a Note fan until Note 4. I have been using over 5kmah battery since GTN7000. And my Note 4 which I sitll use today has over 10kmah.
ihazpowrz Nope mine is real 5kmah and it is not for my Note 4. I have been using Note Serries since the 1st Note w/c is GTN7000. The brand is Mugen Power the battery was twice thick than the original one and I am getting more than 7 hours of screen time of extreme use. ruclips.net/video/3FKkK0qNuOw/видео.html The next one was for my Note 2 Korean Variant. I was using 9kmah Zero Lemon and I can get as much as 16 hours of screen time in extreme use. ruclips.net/video/Im5yWu0cIhI/видео.html The last one is for my Note 4 10kmah Zerolemon and it gives me 12 hours of screen time in extreme use. And when I say extreme Mobile Data is always on. All settings are crank up to max playing taxing 3D games / whatching videos etc. ruclips.net/video/S7tNLnGRubU/видео.html My point is third party battery manufacturers have been doin that for years now and their products have all been more reliable and durable than Sam's stock batteries. ( I still have all those batteries and my old Notes and the are still working fine! ) So it's no excuse for Sam to do the same specially if they wont go back to removable battery design. With Note 9 being overprice battery should be cranked up to 10k mah in my opion.
@@mredizon00 You do realize that if they put such massive batteries inside the phones, they would become so heavy and thick that they would be a massive pain in the ass to carry around, right?
I tried to do this and the problem that I ran into is that the back was not separating from the battery no matter how long I heated it. I think my suction cup was too small and wouldn't stay stuck. I am not sure if it is the adhesive that is too strong or the suction cup that is poor.
Well it looks like im the only one actually dumb enough to try this. . . i cant even get the stupid back to come off, adventures of a 14 year old dimmbo. will update UPDATE: IT WORKS OH MY GOD YAS!, notes: it looks like a five year old arts project by no fault of the video, its basiclly completley shattered because im impatient and its also glued with fabric hot glue BUT IT WORKS!!!
That's not an unreasonable but if the battery were state of the art for publicly available batteries in when the Note 9 came out, it might take a little longer to increase battery capacity by 25% for the same size battery. It took quite a while for the common 18650 Li-Ion batteries to go from 1500mAh to 3600mAh.
Can't I just use a butter knife to pull it off, crew off the the thing then pull off the battery out with great force and somehow connect my old Nokia phone battery to it with tape and wires then use the phone without putting on the back cover?
Thank you for this video! I still have my old Note 9, but the capacity of battery obviously decreased, that's why I'd like to replace it. Please could you update the links since none of them work. Also I wonder if you can replace the adhesive to make sure the back cover will sit as tight as new?
The Battery in mine swelled so bad I didn't even need a heat gun to remove the back, it was half popped off by the swollen battery plenty enough too get my fingers in there and slowly pry it the rest of the way off. So glad it didn't explode into flames like the Note 7 version. A $1000 phione shouldn't be this difficult to get into just to swap batteries ffs.
Is it wise heating the AMOLED screen to remove the battery? Wouldn't that damage it at all? Can you give us a guide on how long we can heat up the screen for? Is it better to just use some rubbing alcohol to remove the battery?
Very helpful guide. I just replaced my phone battery with zero damage to the back cover, unlike the time I tried with a Galaxy Note 5 years ago. Hardest part was getting the glue to melt enough to lift the cover; I had to heat my phone's back cover 4-5 times, finally up to 85°c using a laser thermometer to check the temperature each time but it eventually came apart slowly. I used a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the old battery to melt the glue, to avoid the risk of heating the screen digitizer as they are easily damaged with excess heat: not worth the risk if you can avoid it. For those trying it for the first time, just be patient, increasing the heat on the back cover gradually until you can slowly remove it; you want to avoid bending the cover as much as you can, as it is thin glass so will quickly shatter if you rush it; be especially careful around the corners. Also, if you apply a thin layer of quality glue (I used T7000 medium viscosity multi-purpose glue) around the existing sticky areas on the back cover, or new adhesive strips, there is no reason you shouldn't still retain a good waterproof seal once finished.
Hi, can you do this again live for us and show us the gps and speaker used within the battery in order to spy on the user. I saw a video that shows how well Samsung and other phone companies secretly place a speaker and a gps that connects to the battery. He removed them, reapplied the battery sticker, tested the phone and worked 100 percent good
I buy it from the 1st day and I have never changed the battery to this day I need to replace it it's so weak now I don't even know how many years since I bought the phone
It's 2024 now and my note 9 still works great. My phone overheats now but this is because I started leaving it plugged in overnight to charge and I've destroyed my battery by overcharging. I've loved this phone since 2019 so I'm going to try this.
Before all it took was taking off the back of the phone and replace battery. Easy and simple, right? But no, these damn companies had to change it and make replacing batteries so much more difficult. I guess they didn't want the phone users to replace the batteries by themselves for free. Damn greedy bastards
Mostly a good video but 2 things....for people who have never done this....we'd want to know what kind of adhesive to use. White glue? Rubber cement glue?? What kind? And were exactly do we put it? just a tiny drop on 4 corners of the battery bottom??? Also...the finger print scanner cable that attaches to the back....is there an obvious spot?Is there only one port?? I assume there is...so we shouldn't get it wrong. ?
Please don't ask for likes or subs until the END of the video. It's poor etiquette and makes people not want to do either. If your video is good, at the end say please like and subscribe IF you enjoyed this content. That is the proper, respectful way to do it.
Everyone whining about the ip68 needs to stfu. This is for when your battery starts to die which it inevitably will you can replace it yourself with this method and save a lot on the labor. This is exactly the same process Samsung or 3rd party repair does except they use new adhesive.

Now I need to get hold of a heat gun and a genuine battery for my Note 9
Thank you so much sir.
Stupid design. Hard to remove the cover and you can damage your phone easily.
not really a stupid design. Water resistance on phones made them harder to repair. It's quite simple
He wants Moses to block the water with magic
@@Birdielights If much smaller companies can produce water PROOF casing, then surely Samsung can do better than this.
I hate that companies do this. I used to have a note 4 and all you had to do was remove the back cover and replace the battery. It literally took 20 seconds. This is just insane.
You didn't add any new adhesive when putting it back together??
I did not need to remove the bottom section to remove the battery. But excellent video though. For those afraid to try, this is nothing compared to replacing the front glass. So use some sort of case and don't break it!
Is it possible to remove the back if I'm unable to take the sim card tray. It's stuck!!
I would so break my phone if I did this .lol
My Note 9 is already starting to separate from the back. This is not just a Note 9 issue. It can happen on any phone.
If this happens to your phone (or to your laptop) - it is because of battery bulge. The battery needs replacement.
But surprisingly, there is no noticeable bulge when replacing the battery.
WOW...Gone are the days of slide off back battery covers. Yes I am old bud definitely impressed and scared of this. Thank you for sharing.
Can't have a slide cover and remain water proof.
@@NotoriousPyro yes it's possible galaxy s5 was waterproof and had a removable battery.
@@NotoriousPyro nah they just want to force you to buy a new phone when a battery replacement would have sufficed. that is the biggest reason
Holy Crap! Super impressive video that explains in great detail a complete step by step instructional tutorial that makes it easy to understand and follow along. One of the best tutorials I have ever seen and I subscribed immediately!
Never replacing my note 4 cause you can replace your battery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This phone won't be water resistant any more

What would you advise as my note 9 back cover is loose and is separated from the phone slightly?
2024. Took me 30 mins to fix. Had my phone since 2018 and I love it. Have an I phone too but I love my note 9 to death
Who else came here because they plan on going from note 4 to 10?
And here I am still using a galaxy s6 with original not so long lasting battery life
I dont believe so after this procedure , this phone remain waterproof !!!!!!
GRIMM WESSEN I agree, it’s definitely not to be relied upon.
Just Don't drop it in water hhhh
Not anymore
Excellent video my man! Thanks!
Much appreciated. Rather pay someone than screw it up. Love my note9. But its getting paid off in 2 months and want to give it to a friend that can't afford high-end phones.
@Serg Tech..... To keep the phone water resistance do you recommend applying more adhesive
So in the process of changing my battery I 'burned' the front screen on my phone. The phone works but there is a sizeable yellow spot when it's on. Can that be replaced?
Happened to me. The screen burn is permanent.
I've seen online some extra capacity batteries for the note 9 are they safe? I have changed my battery in November but now the capacity is at 85% and it's discharging much faster. To make it worse now with the pandemic I charge my phone 2 times a day even 3 sometimes
That is exactly what I am doing too. I love my Note 9 but DAMMMM!!!
wow the phone is not on the market yet but this guy already replacing the battery. i salute you advance thinker
Hi, great video! Thanks a lot!!
- QUESTIONS:
1- I followed your battery link to Amazon, but the battery is not a genuine Samsung like in your video!
I don't know whose bad idea is this non-removae battery thingy? 😡
GOODNESS JUST TO CHANGE A BATTERY! Why go through all of this "Planned Obsolescence?!" Just stay away from this Phone! Thanks!
This phone? 90% of phone now since 2015 to onwards opens up like this. Thats how they make em IP68 water resistant. Plus makes extra money on battery exchange.
How did you already get your T-Mobile variation of the note 9?
Didn't this phone just get shown for the media? How did you acquire one to pull apart already? Great video, for when it's needed in 2 years from now xD
rxwh meh. It’s possible trust me
We got one on august 13
The Note 9 has been released.
Quick fact not many of this tear down Channels mention but only people who repair phones know is that
Once the battery is take it off from the phone its not useful anymore, why? Because in order to extract the battery you need to apply force and bend the battery which creates a reaction that makes the battery expand and it will start to swelling once is installed so keep in mind that if you need to extract the battery you yes or yes need a new battery to replace, the phone will not explode because Samsung batterys are in another level in terms of security but naturally will expand and the back glass would brake or not close properly
You do it so easily unlike Jerry. That bugger is brutal !

Thanks, for clear instructions. Do you think a regular hair dryer will actually achieve needed temperature? Have you tried it with a hair dryer? Can you damage phone by accidently over heat.
You don't want it to get too hot, you'll notice the lift after applying some heat at a distance
A hair dryer wasn't hot enough for me. I started making progress when I started using a hairdryer + curling iron combo.
Forget it!!! rsrs...I prefer much more my Note 4!!!! easier than...
What about the waterproofing characteristics? Are any special steps needed to retain the water resistance if the phone?
The waterproofing will not be the same as the original one, but you can add a phone glue adhesive.

How is the display??

Damn i know the burn ins are inevitable but cool :)
For you its just a simple buy and install methods of a new battery
My note 5 has screen burn in and fast charge doesn't work nor does the phone communicates with the pc so really the usb port just gives only basic charging and nothing else, i wonder if i should buyva new note 5 and or the note 4 ( that one died on me permanently )
It seems like mine is not glued but fused .. back won't come off no matter how hot I make it. (can't touch it for more than 0.5 second)
Thank you for the tutorial! Preordered my Note 9 two days ago and already know how to replace the battery. Also, during the removal, it did not seem that the speaker module needed to be removed for the replacement process. Did you remove it because of the close proximity to the bottom edge of the battery?
3 years here i am i need a new battery got the tools
To put it back you didn't glue it?
Thanks for the very educational video. I kust replace the battery of my wife's Note 9. However, the back cover adhesive sticker could not be reused like you said, but had to be replaced. Maybe notify your viewers that it is best to order a battery sticker replacement and a back cover sticker replacement.
Replacement of the stickers is fairly easy, though it might require some elbow grease to completely remove the old sticker from the cover.
Good point. But I actually managed to reuse my back cover stickers. I guess all those years of fixing iPhone 4s paid off. I called it my fleet of Frankenphones. =)
I think sammy can go for 5000mah pretty easily next time..
Looks like there is a possibility. 🤔
sanjay neelam they wont because of one word = greed. I was a Note fan until Note 4. I have been using over 5kmah battery since GTN7000. And my Note 4 which I sitll use today has over 10kmah.
They can but they won't, because if their phones lasts so long, no one will be purchasing the next Samsung. Almost all companies do this.
ihazpowrz Nope mine is real 5kmah and it is not for my Note 4. I have been using Note Serries since the 1st Note w/c is GTN7000. The brand is Mugen Power the battery was twice thick than the original one and I am getting more than 7 hours of screen time of extreme use.
ruclips.net/video/3FKkK0qNuOw/видео.html
The next one was for my Note 2 Korean Variant. I was using 9kmah Zero Lemon and I can get as much as 16 hours of screen time in extreme use.
ruclips.net/video/Im5yWu0cIhI/видео.html
The last one is for my Note 4 10kmah Zerolemon and it gives me 12 hours of screen time in extreme use.
And when I say extreme Mobile Data is always on. All settings are crank up to max playing taxing 3D games / whatching videos etc.
ruclips.net/video/S7tNLnGRubU/видео.html
My point is third party battery manufacturers have been doin that for years now and their products have all been more reliable and durable than Sam's stock batteries. ( I still have all those batteries and my old Notes and the are still working fine! ) So it's no excuse for Sam to do the same specially if they wont go back to removable battery design. With Note 9 being overprice battery should be cranked up to 10k mah in my opion.
@@mredizon00 wrong...
@@mredizon00 You do realize that if they put such massive batteries inside the phones, they would become so heavy and thick that they would be a massive pain in the ass to carry around, right?
Hello, I have some problem with the battery and I need replacing, where I can buy the new.
Guide to sink $1000 plus in few minutes.
Yep
I tried to do this and the problem that I ran into is that the back was not separating from the battery no matter how long I heated it. I think my suction cup was too small and wouldn't stay stuck. I am not sure if it is the adhesive that is too strong or the suction cup that is poor.
Well it looks like im the only one actually dumb enough to try this. . . i cant even get the stupid back to come off, adventures of a 14 year old dimmbo. will update
UPDATE:
IT WORKS OH MY GOD YAS!, notes: it looks like a five year old arts project by no fault of the video, its basiclly completley shattered because im impatient and its also glued with fabric hot glue BUT IT WORKS!!!
what if you do not have heat gun
Imagine if could find a SAFE 5,000mah same size to replace the exiting one.
Your phone 📱 would be super long life battery 🔋 🔋 🔋 🔋 🔋
You can't have the same size and have a bigger capacity than this.
Does this retain water resistance?
Can you like send us an ebay link for the battery adhesive please?
Can't I just use a butter knife to pull it off, crew off the the thing then pull off the battery out with great force and somehow connect my old Nokia phone battery to it with tape and wires then use the phone without putting on the back cover?
Very helpful great work
After two years of use, USB port died on my Note 9.
Thinking of replacing the battery as well, since I'm opening it and all.
BE CAREFUL! I STABBED THE BATTERY WITH A MY TOOL BY MISTAKE AND THE BATTERY WENT ON FIRE!!!!! I KNOW ITS MY FAUILT!
PLEASE TELL ME THE TRUTH. AFTER U CHANGE BATTERY, ITS STILL WATERPROOF OR NOT?
wont be waterproof
Hi, can you do this again live for us and show us the gps and speaker used within the battery in order to spy on the user. I saw a video that shows how well Samsung and other phone companies secretly place a speaker and a gps that connects to the battery. He removed them, reapplied the battery sticker, tested the phone and worked 100 percent good
Just a question, after replacing the battery, will reusing the adhesive for the back panel affect the waterproofing?
Water resistance is out the door once the phone has been opened
How do I know I like the video before I see it?
Currently using a note 9..its an amazing phone
screen so strong falling a couple of times without breaking... but batterys weak and needs change

Everyone whining about the ip68 needs to stfu. This is for when your battery starts to die which it inevitably will you can replace it yourself with this method and save a lot on the labor. This is exactly the same process Samsung or 3rd party repair does except they use new adhesive.

Great video! Your battery link above is dead. There are a lot of batteries on Amazon, is there a specific battery you feel is worthy to buy?
My battery on this phone seem to needed changing pretty quickly. I had it about a year and already seems to be losing its lasting power unlike the Note 5, I had it about 2-3 years and never changed the battery!!! hhhmmm Also it better to let the phone total run down and recharge at times instead of always recharging when it gets to 50% +/- power???
Yeah same bro. Its so disappointing. Bet there will be a battery recall in a year or so.
