  • Insert Bill of Material into a Drawing in Solidworks | Custom Properties with Bill of Material | CADable | CADable tutorials
In this tutorial, we will learn how to insert Bill of Materials (BOM) into a drawing in Solidworks. I am using an example of a piston assembly consisting of four parts. For the sake of simplicity I am only using four parts. These four parts are:
    a) Connecting Rod
    b) Crankshaft
    c) Gudgeon Pin
    d) Piston
In the first part, we will generate BOM and in the 2nd part we will link our parts with BOM using custom properties. The advantage of using this in BOM is, it is parametric. If I change a material of say gudgeon pin, the material in BOM will also change. I have shown this in the last part of the video. I have also covered how to apply balloon in solidworks drawing. How to edit drawing title etc. and much more.
    Chapters of the tutorial:
    Introduction 0:00
    Making drawing from Assembly 0:55
    Display style and custom scale1:32
Creating BOM (Bill of Material) 2:12
    Deleting columns from BOM 3:24
    Parts preview from BOM 3:50
Exclude and include parts in BOM 4:17
Adding balloon to the assembly 5:08
Creating custom properties for piston 6:31
Creating custom properties for connecting rod 9:01
    Formatting / customizing BOM 10:52
Completing other two [gudgeon pin and crankshaft] 11:59
    Editing sheet format 13:30
Power of Solidworks parametric designing 14:55
    Conclusion 16:46
It is a good exercise for beginners and it will be a good practice for beginners. Kindly use play pause technique for practice. Feel free to ask your queries in comment section. I will try to answer each and every question. Keep practicing as practice makes a man perfect.

Just convert your drawings to PDF and send these to manufacturing. I'll make another video for that. Cheers!

What if I just want to describe the materials I used solid works to build a textile?

You want to apply a material on an object? Or you want to give it a realistic look?

@@CADable I just manually entered it in it's a weird project we never use textiles so i manually entered it

@@davidc2837 I didnt understand brother, if you are using it as a texture fine, its called appearance not material, if you are using as a material then you can use its properties. If you have some question you can ask here!
