    My girlfriend and I installed a grizzly in our small holiday trailer...it was the best upgrade so far. Make sure to clean the flue every month in the winter..there is a small plate on the top inside of the stove that you remove to brush all the way through. You can get flue brushes 3 inch and we also got a creosote fluid that after you clean the stove you spray a few pieces of wood for the fire to start and it burns up the rest of any remaining creosote. We enjoy the dry heat as it helps to keep the condensation away.

    • @LifeisaJoy
      @LifeisaJoy  5 лет назад +1

      Great! Thanks for the info! We looked at the flue yesterday and so far it is clean but we are definitely keeping an eye on it. Thanks for watching!

      There is likely enough humidity just from breathing in a small space. Adding too much will likely trigger a mold problem.

      My understanding is those Cubic mini stoves can burn Anthracite Coal as well, is that true?. Anthracite burns very long, hot and as clean as natural gas is drafted correctly.
      Thanks for reading!

    Great job. We LOVE our Cubic Grizzly too. We heat with it 18 hours/day. But I don’t know how you get 3 hours out of it. If we don’t stoke it every 45-60 minutes, it’ll be cold dead in two hours.

    • @LifeisaJoy
      @LifeisaJoy  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks! Maybe it is those compressed blocks we are using but we checked and get over 3-1/2 hours when we put both halves of one of those blocks in. And another blessing is that they produce very little ash.

    If you look underneath the top you can see that if you straighten out the little brass railing tabs that stick through you can remove that railing that goes around the top of the wood stove. That gives you more surface area to be able to put pots and pans and things so you can actually use the wood stove to cook on

    Nice woodstove! Thanks for sharing! To easily clean the glass, let the fire go out and the stove get cool. Then spray the glass with oven cleaner...the cheap stuff is ok. Try not to get on the metal, just the glass. Put some newspaper down under the door to catch the stuff if it drips. Let sit for about 5 minutes and try to wipe off with paper towels. If it does not come right off, let sit for another 5 minutes or so or reapply another coat or both. The black mess should wipe right off. I had an "aha moment" about this cleaning possibility one day after cleaning my range oven. Before that I was cleaning the glass with a Scotch brite pad and way too much elbow grease. Thought this tip might help you or someone else.

    Great video and a really nice job you two. I was wondering two things. Did you ever look at any other stoves like the Kimberly? And where did you purchase those hardwood sawdust bricks? Thanks so much.

    • @LifeisaJoy

      Thank you so much for watching! We did look at the Kimberly but it was almost triple the cost. We are very happy with the Grizzly after burning it now for about 2-3 weeks in some cold weather. The bricks were purchased from Tractor Supply - a pack of 6 for $3.99. They produce very little ash and, of course, are very dry.

    I have a $75 stove that is twice the size of the grizzly. It doesn’t have a secondary burn, but I’ll stick with $75 rather than $800 or $1,000 or whatever it is after you buy the cubic mini and the stand / pipe.

    Hey Jim & Debby! Great to see your smiling faces! Hope you guys had a great Christmas. The wood stove seems really great! But I have a question I've been meaning to ask: You have radiant heat floors?? Do you get that heat off the engine? Do you have a boiler?? Love to know if you have the chance. God bless you guys! Happy New Years! Enjoy that wood stove! Looks cozy! Love to you guys!

      Thanks, Allen! Our Christmas was great! We do have radiant heat floors. We have an open system so we use our water heater to heat the water that goes under the floor. Thanks for watching!

      Whew! Kinda glad Christmas is over, kinda stressful here, but great! Ok, you use the hot water heater. I'm designing hydronic system for my bus, would have loved to do radiant heat, but I'm limited. So I'm gonna have a diesel boiler. It will also use engine heat, generator heat, or boiler. I'll have fan coil units, heat exchanger for the HW. The cooled return lines will be pipe under blk, gry, frsh water tanks to warm them so I can use during winter. [This is all a dream idea...still figuring how to pay/scrounge/build myself. But that's what fun for me! It's so cool to see how folks make it work. Keeping you all in prayer too safe travels, and fun! Love to you guys! God bless!

    I notice you have the knob on the lower right side of the stove pushed in. That knob controls the oxygen flow to the fire. If you pull it out you'll notice the fire get higher. Push it in and the fire gets lower. This way it gives you some control over the heat. In less oxygen, out more oxygen.

    That brass rail on top can be removed and then the top could be used for a kettle of water or even a fry pan. The top surface could be extended if you visit a metal shop and have them cut you a 1/4" plate of steel to sit on top. Make a template with some cardboard that fits around the flue pipe and extends the top surface a few inches in width and depth. Spray paint it with some high temperature stove paint and it will look like factory. The heat from the stove will transfer up through the plate and give you enough room for whatever you want.

    Do you use it during the night? If so, you have to get up at least once to feed it. Have you thought to modify it to use wood pellets? An endless screw should be used to feed it continuously in very small quantities.

    I'm curious why you chose to use a wood burning stove instead of your mini split and or radiant floor heating?

    • @LifeisaJoy
      @LifeisaJoy  5 лет назад +3

      We still use the radiant floor (and the mini split when needed). We have always loved a fireplace or wood burning stove (ambience). The wood stove takes care of some of the moisture created when we use our propane cookstove or water heater. Also, the wood stove doesn't use any electricity. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      @@LifeisaJoy : Awesome wood stove, I grew up in a home that was built back in the 20's and our primary heat was a 450lb cast iron wood burning free standing stove, My Father would also cook and use it for canning his preserves on it from time to time.
      Burning propane causes a "Wet heat" not sure about the chemistry behind that but, one thing that I do know, having too much moisture will cause mold to grow and that the last thing anyone needs incubating within the walls of your RV/bus. And not to forget, wood is far more cheaper and especially when boondocking, wood is "FREEEEEEEEE"...😊

    Not sure what kind of instructions you got for cleaning the glass front. yes, they will 'self clean' with a good hot fire - but I was also instructed to use white ash (no hard charcoal bits) and water. The method is when it's cold in the morning (it can be a bit warm), before you do the general clean out, you dip a rag or paper towel into some water, then dip it in the ash that's accumulated in the overnight burndown...try not to get any charcoal bits on the rag. Just use this combo on the dirty glass. it makes a loose paste that you apply and wait a bit for it to 'work'...then gently rub the dirty parts - if it's really dirty it make take some harder rubbing - but it works very well and it's free! Remember in the old days, wood ash was part of soap making. It's not instant, but it does work and there is nothing more beautiful than watching the fire through the clean glass. I was also warned to NEVER use any kind of cleaning fluids, abrasive scrubbers or powders on this kind of glass, as it ruins the self cleaning finish and actually can affect glass safety. I love my woodstove - it keeps our home warm no matter how cold it gets!

    Hi Jim that was fun I thought about getting one for our coach my plan is to get a mini split system like yours how does the new fireplace work in conjunction with the mini split system as far as it helping move any air through the coach I'm just curious if it works
    Thanks for sharing and happy New Year and safe travels.

    • @LifeisaJoy

      We don't really use the mini split to move the air when the stove is on but we have the little fan on top and it works great. We also have a small Vornado fan that we point upward to move the air around. The mini split we have has a heat pump so it kicks on when we let the fire go out at night. We are very, very happy with how it all works. Thanks for watching!
