I was born and raised in Fresno CA, but moved to San Francisco when I was 18. So I’ve been up north for about 11-12 years now. I am so happy I got out of the valley.
Don’t get me wrong, when I was in high school I was very interested in the revitalization of downtown Fresno and seeing it grow into a cool city it could be.
I remember when the iron bird lofts first opened & I would go to art hop every month by myself or with some friends.
But after living in San Francisco, I realized it’s the people that are different in the valley (not all, but most.)
They don’t seem to care about culture, nightlife, art, & individuality.
I live in the mission district, but I’ve lived in almost every district in SF now. But, my point is here in the mission there are beautiful murals painted everywhere & I have never seen anyone graffiti over them.
If this were in Fresno you would see ‘X4’ or ‘Norte’ tagged all over that beautiful work of art.
I still believe in the revitalization of downtown Fresno and continue to follow its update’s to this day, but I will probably never move back to the valley unless I was forced to.
But, in about 5 years it’ll probably resemble San Jose.

I grew up in Fresno and moved 7 or so years ago for work. I will say you hit the nail on the head with the whole being 1-4 hours away from so many cool places thing. While Fresno itself might not be the prettiest place it’s literally within a few hours drive of national parks, lakes, the beach, LA, SF…. Etc. That really is the most under appreciated aspect of living in Fresno. That and for being a landlocked Central Valley city the food options are amazing. I miss home ☹️.

100% agree here. This is the reason why I love this city so much. Access to everything without needing to be drowned by the drawbacks of those areas. And yes, food is delicious. Country Fare has some of the best Mexican breakfast foods you'll find.
      Any plans of coming back?

Great Video that sums up the good things about Fresno.
We visited my Mom for years and finally decided to move to Clovis and coming from San Jose, Ca it is a very welcoming change of pace, granted, my teenager hates it but she is getting used to having new friends plus she is busy with school and all the activities they have, so there is little time to feel sad.
Everything you mentiobed about Fresno can be said about Clovis, with the addition that we have a very good school district, so good that makes me want to go back to school.
Clovis is even a bigger small city, but being next to Fresno gives up plenty of options, and we are also closer to Yosemite and the Sierras, same distance to the Beach, LA, San Francisco and Wine County.
One thing I love about Clovis is that people of all ages are very active, you can see people running, jogging, biking, walking their pets at ALL times of the day, what I love most is seing families of 4-5 members all biking together on a sunny day.
We have plenty of parks, none I will say I love the most, but Bicentennial Park is not the most attractive but man does it get people all the time, any day you can drive by and you will see people playing, soccer, volleyball. cricket, flag football, frisbee and softball as well as basketball, literally the only thing it doesn't have is tennis courts.
When we moved here, everyone will wave at us as we were driving, something I have never seen anywhere and made us feel welcome, so now is something we do to every car driving our neighnorhood.
We moved last year and didn't have much opportunity to explore, but we will definitely do it next year.

Really glad you're enjoying your move to Clovis! Personally, I've always considered Clovis to be part of Fresno, even though I know it's not. They share all the same attributes, especially when you look at Northern Fresno and Clovis.
Bicentennial Park may not have the tennis courts but you mentioned the great schools. They are usually accessible for everyone to play! My family and I play tennis every Sunday at Clovis North.
There are tons of great things that you can do in the area. When you get the chance to, take advantage of them. I'll make a few videos soon covering the different activities available to us in the area.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate you sharing your input Javier!

Some things are true. But there are some cons:
We really don't get 4 seasons. It's mostly foggy/icy mornings and hot. (Hardly rains). Big drought happening. Which is leading to frequent Fires near the city. Last year was so smoky, cars had ash for multiple weeks and air was really bad. Which leads to bad air quality. Some kids develop symptoms here because of it. Which leads to schools for kids. Ratios are high. Lotta kids in each classroom. Not much one on one. Anything below Shaw Ave is not that great to raise a family. Lotta car break-in even at Savemart Center during events. They stole my friend's car (a student) from Fresno State University parking lot. Houses that are below 300k are not in that "great" areas. The 200k are definitely not in family friendly areas. Clovis is a bit better, but it's spreading east for the reasons of staying away from a lot ghetto people in Fresno.

Fancy Fresno! Thanks for the video I just moved up from Los Angeles after taking a crypto consultant job in Fresno these past 8 months. I agree the cost of living is very affordable compared to Sacramento with a lot of Bay area renters and Riverside with a lot of LA renters. Fresno fits right in the middle (pun intended) with surprisingly affordable homes like the one I bought in the Tower District. Besides my crypto full-time job, I also freelance remote as a digital marketer for a LA communication studio so I am part of that crowd. The schools are not an issue as my kids prefer remote learning and they get that in person learning experience when they go to their coding session practice at a private school in one of fresno shopping centers.

Don’t come to ruin what we have… I don’t like the crazy drivers from out of town and the mentality of the larger city folks. I miss home man, I grew up there my whole life and have I've now lived in upstate NY for the past year. It's great here, and idk if I could every justify coming back with some of the cons, I mean climate-wise I think it'll only get worse there with the wild fires, and the heat is worse then you portray. But I miss it, I miss the food, all the cool stuff nearby, the culture, the people of so many different walks of life, it's so milquetoast up here. I wanna find a job where I can work remotely and live wherever I want, and I think thinking perfectly logically I know that I can get many of the things I like from home in other places, but Fresno is still home, and I know many of the things that I love will still be there coming back. Idk if I'll ever come back, but I know even if it wouldn't be perfect I'd still love to.

That's exactly how I felt when I lived in Long Beach. You're right about the heat. I guess for people who are not used to heat, it's probably a big shock but I've personally grown to it and we find ways to stay out of it. There are plenty of jobs like that out there, keep looking. In the meantime, I'll keep making videos from back home so it can help with the homesickness/nostalgia!

After my tech job went permanent remote I moved to Fresno in June 2020 and all I can say I don’t miss my expensive rent in San Francisco at all nor the traffic. Overall Fresno has been a good city for me. I already drove to a tech conference in San Jose, California and still feel connected to Silicon Valley and luckily my neighbor is also a programmer as well haha.
Also Luckily my two kids have found a coding place called “Bitewise” to meet other coding kids in the area.
    Fresno
Pros: diversity, liberal, good Chinese/Indian/Mexican food, friendly people, lots of jobs, live music all the time, art scene is awesome (art hop), very dog-friendly, nobody cares what you wear, growing tech town, international airport can fly to SF or LA under an hour which allows me to then fly to Sweden to visit my wife’s family, tons of attractions throughout the city so there's never nothing to do
Cons: some traffic nothing like SF or LA tho, might become to liberal oh well lol.

Been in Fresno for over 10 years. I will say that living here is becoming close to impossible due to higher paid bay area/LA individuals moving here. Almost every apartment company disclosed this to me when I was applying. Rent that used to be around 1,100 is now 1,300-1,700 for a one bedroom. I used to live in one of the nicest apartments in Fresno but their 1,400 one bedroom turned to 1,800 during the pandemic from people moving here from the bay. Gentrification for Fresno hit at the worst possible time, and most locals cannot afford to live here or have decreased their qualify of life due to many factors but mainly greed from renters/outsiders looking for cheaper living but not directly working and serving the Fresno community. This is just from personal experience and observing the homelessness here in Fresno.

Considering buying a house in fresno in the future. I currently live in the inland empire close to riverside and there are no affordable homes that at the very least look nice. 500-600k just for a decent house out this way 🤦 being located between LA and San Diego doesn't help since that drives up the real estate.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! I live in central Fresno and am being honest with my experience of it. I've lived in North, Central, and South Fresno and would agree with you completely if what we were talking about was strictly the South side. It's riddled with the issues you bring up, but that's not Fresno at it's entirety. I don't think we should lump an entire city in the red just because one part of it, then every city would be horrible.
