Fabulous video! Bill and Marcus are lovely people. I found myself nodding my head at everything they said … they have shared their experience of moving from North America to Portugal beautifully. Well done, Nick & Sarah, sharing this couple’s inspirational story.
Thank you both so much for sharing Bill and Marcus' story, Nick and Sarah! Please consider doing more of these types of videos as we've been following you two for some time and are really considering heading across the pond to join you! More information is a very good thing! Thanks again, and here's hoping we can get together for a burger and chips and a Boddington's in the future!
What a beautiful summation of a major life changing experience with such delightful people. Hearing your story makes it all seem possible. I wish you all the very best. Thank you Nick & Sarah. Your productions are always a joy. This one is superb. Fran
I really liked your interview a lot. I totally agree what you guys said on the language. I had Latin in middle-school, I speak French fluently and can understand Spanish and Italian when I hear it. But you hit the nail on the head that listening comprehension in Portugese is difficult. The music of the language is quite different from the other Latin language and it's difficult to parse the individual words when they are speaking. Reading Portuguese is much easier. Thank you for being honest and open about the experience.
Marcus, congrats on you and Bill finding your happy place! It looks amazing. BTW, thanks for your service- as a former Marine, I truly appreciate it! Here's to hoping that we can meet up some time. We, like you, have our lives wrapped around our dogs and simply refuse to leave until they are gone as they are both getting old. Thanks again for sharing your story and best of luck to you both!
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Bill and Marcus learned quite a bit, thank you so much guys. Unfortunately I'm still stuck in Wales due to a seemingly collapse of the property market here in the UK, there is very very little selling and viviewings have dried up, unfortunately it looks like we can write off this summer both for selling and off course the weather 🙈☔😂 But still very much staying positive, most days, about the move to Portugal for me and my canine family . Nick and Sarah I for one absolutely loved the way you both put this video together and conducted the interviews ....surely the next move is the silver screen 😊😂👍 Destino Portugal is getting dam good at this very professional! ❤
Another informative video Nick! Thank you to Bill & Marcus for sharing their journey. Nice to see Sarah getting in front of the camera, she seems well suited to the interviewer role, keep up the great work guys 👍😎😀
Thanks for this - it was an interesting, thoughtful conversation. As a gay person it's nice to hear about the experiences of a same sex couple in a rural area, too, since all the info I have come across has been from straight couples' perspectives, and it's very warming to know Bill and Marcus have been welcomed without hesitation. What a beautiful place to now call home.
Hello Nick and Sarah! Thank you for this fantastic video. This video represents us pretty much exactly and we got such a boost from watching it. We're buying a home on the edge of Figuerio dos Vinhos and will be there in a month or so for the closing. Our reasons for the move are so similar, we both grew up in rural northeast US (live in a large US city now), healthcare, recognition of rights, slower pace of life, etc. We'd love to meet you and Sarah (and Bill and Marcus too) and enjoy a meal together. We'll all be living in the same area. I've left you a message on your Patreon as well. You've helped us more than you know and we're grateful. Cheers and hope to see you soon!

What a lovely and informative interview with Bill and Marcus. They are quite calming and encouraging as they demonstrated a move such as theirs is very much achievable. Wow Nick you’ve gone and do it again I think you need to pack in building and go full time with your video camera. You and Paula have made the best property videos in Portugal and now you top it by joining up w your better half Sara and the record what is the best moving to Portugal video there is imo. You and Sara couldn’t have picked a better couple to interview Bill and Marcus were clear speakers and used great care and compassion in formulating their answers they were definitely a couple of years there spoke with care and intelligence, they were clear as to why where the pit falls ,the happiness, the financial benefits that got while explaining their experiences and where people might improve their move to Portugal. I can’t wait for the next video from “Nick and Sara interviews xxxx on moving to Portugal” brilliant and I love their place and their footprint pool. It certainly got someone’s stamp of approval!😊😊😊🎉❤❤❤
There was a time when people were flowing into 🇨🇦 and 🇱🇷 for a better life and the American Dream. Things have changed. I think these people made a great choice for themselves to live in peace and safety and acceptance. love the bio pool.🙂👍👍🇨🇦
What a wonderful life changing journey to share with us Marcus and Bill. Very enlightening, thoughtful and informative all in one. We hope that you do more interviews and presentations like this Nick and Sarah. Of course, never give up the real estate episodes, everyone loves them. But this was so different, and so personal. It gave us such a great feeling of assurance that we'll be also doing the same thing soon enough... and to the same area. Saúde a todos!
Also coming from the US, all those same concerns - healthcare cost being too expensive, safety, fantastic community oriented people, beautiful landscape and the food is amazing. 🥰👏❤️😍
Thanks for interviewing Marcus and Bill! I’ve been following them in IG for a while but the in-depth info, especially with the American perspective, is appreciated. And thanks for all the links as well, Sarah and Nick 😊

This is the best episode. It provides huge amounts of information in a deliciously digestible format. Many thanks to Sarah and Nick for bringing this to us and Marcus and bill for sharing their experience
Being a gay woman with a partner, I can totally relate to Bill and Marcus. I have purchased a condo in Sao Martinho do Porto, and a renovated farmhouse near Tomar. I am looking forward to living in Portugal where life is slower, safer, and more affordable.
Could you please pass on this information to Bill and Marcus. Solo 50plus Portugal on RUclips is a lady who house sits for people with pets -- mainly dogs and cats but she has taken on positions where there have been some farm animals. Normally, she sits for a week or two but she has had assignments that can be a month or more. She can give anyone interested the low down -- it is done thru an agency -- and there are other people in Portugal working thru the same agency. So having a dog/cat and wanting to travel has been addressed and is no longer impossible. Fabulous video!!!! Somehow I just knew you were a "cannonball" person to enter the pool lololol
Thank you Nick and Sarah for the amazing vídeo (as usual). Thank you Bill and Marcus. We, the portuguese, often forget what a wonderful country and people Portugal is. We are not perfect, but we do our best.
An awesome video with beautiful people! It was professionally done, with artistic flair. By the way, there is a British RUclipsr, Solo 50Plus Portugal who does dog sitting in Portugal. She is wonderful!
Ty for this wonderful video. It was packed full of information for me as a single female from USA. What a wonderful home & property. That bio pool though who couldn’t resist buying such a home. Great folks.
What a lovely video Bill & Marcus are living the dream . Thank you Nick & Sara bringing this story to Utube about this couple's experience , lovely interview, honest & real. What a beautiful area in Portugal to settle . The Pool they have created is just amazing 🎉 Their story was interesting & inspirational.
Thanks for a truly interesting conversation. Two great couples having a lovely visit. Nick I'm ashamed for the untowardly comments, stay strong, peace...
There are 3 idiots amongst a sea of beauty, they don't bother us as they'd never have the courage to move to Portugal, which is nice. Thank you for your kind words and support 🙏 it means a lot to me and Sarah and I'm sure to Bill and Marcus ♥️
Delightful and illuminating conversation, and I'm not even halfway through. In particular, I like hearing that they've fulfilled the language test requirement for eventual citizenship - something I only recently learned was an option.
Nice to see Sarah looking so cheerful and happy! And a very nice vid (as usual). Very interested in this subject, planing on retiring in Portugal ourselves. My wife and me are EU citizens so circumstances are different, but still. Thank you.
Great episode, interesting to hear how they arranged everything. We are considering to go to portugal and leave everything behind in the Netherlands. This helps to get nessecary information ths
Hi! Thanks Nick and Sarah for this video! After following you almost from the beginning of your channel, one could say this is one of the best. Good content, great "flow", fabulous music at the end, great personas in this video, story is interesting of Bill and Marcus. I will continue to check your weekly videos but it would be a great addition if you could add more of this stuff, peoples stories incl cons and pros. etc. I think it would be proper also for some ask, that is that as as many of the viewers might be buying a property in Portugal, please be more transparent to the temp. heating, forest burnings and safety considerations being something located in the forest, remote locations or an abonded villages. It is not all that great if some buys a property for for 200K+ and loose it all . Just as a thought. Looking forward to your next videos, enjoy!
You weren’t kidding guys, what a fabulous video. Great content, great subject material and the guy’s are super interesting. Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing. love, Ronnie and Reggie “the Shittens“ 🐈 🐈⬛
The Health Care System seems amazing! I was a single Mom in 2000 when I experienced what surviving medical costs of treating breast cancer in America is all about .... still have not recovered financially 😱
Thank you Nick and Sarah Destino Portugal this is the best interview I have seen yet that explains all of the truth and nuances about moving Country. Thanx Marcus and Bill what an inspiring journey.. Cheers Gina in Upstate NY USA moving to Portugal. Marcus I live in Upstate NY I am coming for 3 months in December to look for a farm in Central or Northern. I can bring you guys a bag of bagels,. i'll trade you for a visit? Really
Did you see my note above? Marcus I found a place here that gets bagels from Manhattan every day they are amazing drop me a note if you wish me to bring a dozen. I leave here Dec 6th@@ptcountrybear7813
Thankyou Nick and Sarah, for a lovely informative video... Bill and Marcus seem like lovely guys and their home looks amazing . Has given us both a great boost in confirmation that we are doing the right thing...moving over in a few weeks for good..always so much to sort and the nerves kick in. Anyways good luck all of you on your journeys...again such a fab video ❤❤❤❤
Just an idea 😊 Buy a caravan and travel to Europe with your best friend 😍 My family and I (all Portuguese) leaving in NZ and returning next year to live in my beautiful country ❤️ We are planing to buy the caravan stray away and travel to Europe. Thank you for saying beautiful things about my country and my people. 😊
Wow great video. You are both natural at interviewing and so down to earth. Love Bill and Marcus and I love their beautiful home. I have just started watching your channel and looking forward to watching more of your videos. From Ontario, Canada
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Bill and Marcus learned quite a bit, thank you so much guys. Keep the faith our friend! We planned on making the switch and then covid happened but we stayed focused, you got this. Your dogs will love it here, so many nice walks. I am very proud of this vlog, it pushed me and that's a good thing. I very much appreciate your kind words ❤️
Hi Nick and Sarah, Although we live in Portugal we found this very interesting and also informative I would think for anyone thinking of moving to Portugal, your getting very good at this Nick and it was nice to see the lovely Sarah 😂 Michael.
Really enjoyed the video. I am Portuguese/American citizen, leaving in the US, nearing retiring age and at the crossroads of where will I will want to live. Portugal has always been an option.
The advice for those of us moving from the US to Portugal is great. Love the pool. I'm still in the process of readying my home for sale here in preparation for my move. The reasons are much the same as Bill and Marcus have stated. The political situation with the far-right intolerance of others and spewing of hatred toward immigrants, LGTBQ, or non-Christians and their moves to destroy democracy as a form of government, gun violence, and the healthcare expenses are huge motivators for my move. Love the pool!
You conveniently forgot to point out the hatred of the far left, for it does exist. Look at Scotland, run by a coalition of Nationalists and the far-left Greens. The latter hate the rich and successful and are hell bent on vindictive and nasty policies to punish them. Far left or far right, each is as bad as the other.
Sexual orientation is a characteristic protected by the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. Article 13, which expresses the principle of equality, states: "No one may be privileged, benefited, harmed, deprived of any right or exempt from any duty on account of ancestry, sex, race, language, territory of origin, religion, political or ideological convictions, education, economic situation, social condition or sexual orientation." As in any other country in the world, there are instances of homophobia, but the common attitude of most Portuguese people is live and let live.
Great interview. I am a retired Canadian who is planning to move to Portugal with my son who is a Portuguese citizen. All the information that was given is the same here in Canada with the exception of healthcare, as our healthcare is paid for by the government. The information they gave about private and public healthcare in Portugal is spot on. Thanks again for posting. This may help more people that are in a similar situation to consider the facts and look to Portugal for a place of retirement.
Thanks Nick and Sarah, this was a wonderful in depth interview with the guys. Many questions and concerns I've had were addressed. I'm in a similar situation with quality of life during retirement with those same concerns. Best, Ally
Thank you - extreeemely informative and helpful. I am amazed at how accurate and relevant this video is. I am retiring the end of the year and have already bought a house in Terceira. I jumped right in. While I have a 40 year history with Portugal (my late husband was from Alentejo and our grown sons are Portuguese dual citizens). I learned a lot on my own but agree with all you discussed , culture, language, real estate processes, HEALTH CARE, politics (I am in Florida ) and it resonates loud and clear. but I wish I had watched this first… it helps.
As an American looking at Portugal to eventually retire to, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video! It was great listening to Bill and Marcus talk of their experiences, but I loved the feeling I got that I was actually there sitting at the table with you all. Don't get me wrong - I love all your videos - but this one touched my heart. Thanks! 🥰
Bill and Marcus. I found a place here that gets bagels from Manhattan every day fresh. I can pick up a dozen right before I get to airport. Let's connect so I can see if I will be heading to your area right after I arrive. Drop me a note here and we can somehow exchange info> if I am transporting a dozen bagels I will need to get them to you straight away. So need to know if it will work. Cheers. The rest of the bits that are not perishable you can order, I am coming without a piece of luggage just carry on LOL for three months. FUN. I look forward to hearing from you two....Gina in Upstate New York USA moving to Portugal
Very good informative video! It actually sums up all the points for good and bad mooving from a big central city to a much rural quiet area! About languages, i wonder how it would be for me with Portuguese since english is not my native language but i do speak spanish since i was 5 years old, if it will be helpful? The health system sounds very similar to here in Israel. The costs in the states is just outrageous!!!!! Did you mean burgul? The cooking? It looks like it's burgul, we cook it in Israel too and ras el hanut! It means the store mix spices!! Hanut in hebrew is a store! Margez you can definitely find in french stores cause of the morrocon influences! Wow didn't know all that! Sounds very familiar to the israeli culture as weird as it sounds! So cute about the dog carying and if i ever move to portugal, i will be happy to take care of your dogs for free! Thank you!
What a lovely comment. Yes, Spanish would definitely help. Also, the fact that part of your brain is well exercised would help. I hope you get here even if it's just for a holiday ♥️
Yes, speaking Spanish is a big help. In written form, the similarity between Portuguese and Spanish approaches 85-90%. The greatest difficulty occurs orally, because Spanish has five vowel sounds and Portuguese in its European variant has fourteen vowels (9 oral and 5 nasal), to which are added several diphthongs, also oral and nasal. For this reason, the Portuguese understand the Spanish very well, but they have greater difficulty in reciprocating. Another big difference is that Spanish is a syllable-timed language, while European Portuguese is stressed-timed. This causes some vowels to become unstressed and gives the illusion that the Portuguese "eat" syllables of some words. In reality the vowel is pronounced, but in such an attenuated way that to an untrained ear it seems not to be there.
Brought tears to my eyes, buetiful people, buetiful country your so lucky, ...American healthcare, how uk will be under the tories, I had a hernia op, can't believe the cost, rich getting richer
Refreshing to find Americans who are NOT obsessed by status, which usually leads them to buy really expensive properties in Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra, often over a million Euros. That's why it's rare to meet Americans in central Portugal - not enough opportunity to boast about how expensive their house was. The other area is the Algarve, where there are lots of them. There seems an unwillingness of Americans to explore other options outside of paths well trodden by others.
They are lovely grounded and humble human beings, what they have to offer the world is what's important to them I think, not what they have. I don't blame the other people, it's what they've been moulded into, let's hope they too see what's really important in life ♥️
Ha! wait til you meet me! I like to think folks might be slack jawed to find I don't fit your stereotype of an american 😄. And there's a lot of folks like me... we just don't call attention to our selves or things and are earthier than we let on 😄.
In some fb grps, it feels like Americans forget how to use a map and only want to go where places have been mentioned by others. I'm American and can't figure it out. They all seem to want to follow the others like sheep. I think they are afraid that no one else to speak english with. That is actually a good thing if you are trying to learn Portuguese.. Learning a language is difficult but not having anyone else speak English or not in fluency....the motivation to learn and speak correctly is there. One real estate video I saw today, a commenter asked are there any Americans living in the area. I speak Portuguese and would prefer to go to areas where the opportunities for speaking Portuguese are greater. Also if couples would attempt to speak Portuguese to each other at home...it will further your language learning. When intl students come to a university, if they live with ppl who speak their language...their English skills don't grow. The intl students who live with others that speak English (in US)....their language skills and comprehension get better and better. It is highly noticeable.
I love your property! How much land do you guys have? My husband and I are avid gardeners. We are on 1 acre and plant mostly vegetables. Are you able to plant all veggies (pumpkins, squash, slicing tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, etc) all year round?
Love this interview. As a Black female I can relate on the constant assault on female rights and how blacks/Mexicans are treated in the U.S. This is why I plan to retire to Portugal. ❤ Regarding dog sitting, alot of the expat FB groups people have find sitters. Or if you search in Portuguese, people come up.
We've just been discussing the rise of hatred towards others. As a white male I see the discrimination against women, people of colour, the LGBTQ communities and others. I find it abhorrent and until we come together as human beings we are lost completely. You just have to see the ignorance in some of the comments here and it makes your heart sink. I hope you get to Portugal and I wish you all the very best ♥️
@@destino2portugalThese groups you mention are not entirely free of bigotry and prejudice themselves. You've never seen or heard racism from ethnic minorities, targeted at others? You need to get out more Nick. No-one has a right to assume that someone of a different skin colour will automatically be racist towards you. It is also racist to assume only white people can be racist, and that ethnic minorities never are, and can only ever be victims of racism.
@@perolagrandethank you for sharing your perspective. Yes agree some minorities can be racists against other groups and whites too. Lets be self aware of our own biases and deficiencies and be kind to each other. Help anyone who needs help, keep colour out of it.
Loved this entire interview with sooo much useful information for future expats. We have one question about the “private” insurance part. They mentioned to fill the D7 requirement for insurance, they got private health insurance. Our immigration attorney said we needed “travel” insurance for 180 days, for emergencies, repatriation, and a minimum of €30,000 of coverage. This is quite different then private health insurance outside the public sector offering. Really appreciate your candid answers and sharing your story.
Travel insurance is how most folks satisfy the insurance requirement s of the visa application. It must include “repatriation of remains” coverage to fly your body back to your country of origin in the event you die during the process. Once you arrive it is easy to find more comprehensive health coverage from a local agent.
Damn you Nick. It's bad enough you and Paula temp me every few days with a new listing....Now you had to go and interview folks from my home state of Pennsylvania. When I retired my wife continued working. I am covered under her insurance. I just received my yearly offering from my former employer. To purchase the insurance package I had when I retired would cost 14,400 dollars per year. For my wife to retire that figure would double. I need to be more assertive in my suggestions to look at Portugal!!!!
@@ptcountrybear7813 Absolutely right! We have just received our D7 visas from Canada and will be living in Montemor-o-Novo beginning next month. I did all of the organizing and document gathering for hubby and myself. If you're halfway organized, focused and determined, it's completely doable. We only outsourced getting our NIF, just as you guys did. :)
Love the video. Will be in Coimbra next year. How do I get contact with Paula? She is a such fun real estate agent. Love to see if she can help us find a homestead for us!
Thanks. This was a very informative video. I do wonder why they have not considered using a house sitter to watch the pets and house. Other people in Portugal do use them.
Very interesting video, thank you very much. You mentioned a link to the Government's Portuguese language courses. Could we have that please? Thank you!
I think Trader Joe's now stocks their take on Ras El Hanout. At least in San Francisco they do. But they're doing pretty good offering things that folks want to eat from all over the world. They even have (frozen) pastel de nata! You can also mix your own ras el hanout --a favorite flavor profile of the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) if you enjoy visiting spice merchants, recipes in the interwebs 😊👍🏼.
Nice insights from a couple of real nice guys. There seems to be a theme on a lot of these channels of poor workmanship as seen in the closing shots of the leaking roof window. Is it difficult to find really good tradesmen there? Also do they have separate trades, ie carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers etc or do they mostly have jack of all trades?
Hi Guys! Great video! Thanks for sharing! I, too am thinking about retirement in Portugal. Do you have a website or a way to correspond to get some tips about planning? Thanks! Hope to hear from you!!
Bill, I've seen your name on posts in the fb grps! Great to match name and faces! Pls convince Nick to take the courses that you guys took. I've been trying to help him with pronunciations in his videos....he probably thinks I'm picking on him...but trying to help him. One of you guys has a portuguese last name...does that help? There is also Portuguese classes in most universities...so if the govt classes are full....spend the $1500 for the university course.

It has made my whole year spending some time with the lovely Miss Sarah, my sanity ♥️
Thanks for watching ♥️
Being a gay woman with a partner, I can totally relate to Bill and Marcus. I have purchased a condo in Sao Martinho do Porto, and a renovated farmhouse near Tomar. I am looking forward to living in Portugal where life is slower, safer, and more affordable.
I'm so glad you could get some identification from this vlog, I hope others can see the benefits of Portugal for all, thank you ♥️

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The food in this video looks delicious. I would love to be your next door neighbor lol.
So enjoyed this video. 😊Thank you Nick and Sarah!
Great video Nick and Sarah - Marcus and Bill come across as the loveliest people.
Thank you Nick and Sarah for the amazing vídeo (as usual). Thank you Bill and Marcus. We, the portuguese, often forget what a wonderful country and people Portugal is. We are not perfect, but we do our best.
We love Portugal! ❤
Great vid, as always. Many thanks to all four of you.
What a beautiful
area in Portugal to settle .
The Pool they have created is just amazing 🎉
Their story was interesting & inspirational.
Wow this was amazing
Information was very helpful
Such lovely people and a beautiful place
Thank you for sharing 😁🥰
Very informative. Thinking of retiring to Portugal from the US next year so the timing of this is perfect.
Imagine being neighbors with these two American guys, it would be absolutely incredible.
Delightful and illuminating conversation, and I'm not even halfway through. In particular, I like hearing that they've fulfilled the language test requirement for eventual citizenship - something I only recently learned was an option.
What a great video, thankyou Nick it's been really informative and helpful. Just can't wait to start this process.
Love Bill and Marcus and this shows the very special home they have created in central Portugal.
They are great human beings ❤️
❤
Nice to see Sarah looking so cheerful and happy! And a very nice vid (as usual). Very interested in this subject, planing on retiring in Portugal ourselves. My wife and me are EU citizens so circumstances are different, but still. Thank you.
You're very welcome 🙏 thanks for your kind words too 😊
Great episode, interesting to hear how they arranged everything. We are considering to go to portugal and leave everything behind in the Netherlands. This helps to get nessecary information ths
Lovely video, tfs Laura ❤❤❤

Great interview guys!
I absolutely love this formal- and the Bill and Marcus interview. Great to hear the process and story of their move. I’m American as well.
Bill and Marcus are legendary human beings and we are so lucky they're our friends ❤️
This video was well filmed and thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you. I was like a sponge with all the information, experiences shared. Obrigago.

Such an excellent interview! Thank you for sharing, Bill and Marcus. This has been very insightful and informative. I love the bio pool!
Thankyou Nick and Sarah, for a lovely informative video... Bill and Marcus seem like lovely guys and their home looks amazing . Funny you should say that.....
We were just in Portugal last year. What a beautiful country. Hope to be a FlexPat soon…

@roxanneloyst3733 thank you so very much ♥️
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Bill and Marcus learned quite a bit, thank you so much guys. ❤
Keep the faith our friend! We planned on making the switch and then covid happened but we stayed focused, you got this.
Your dogs will love it here, so many nice walks.

Hi Nick and Sarah, Although we live in Portugal we found this very interesting and also informative I would think for anyone thinking of moving to Portugal, your getting very good at this Nick and it was nice to see the lovely Sarah 😂

Great video, thankyou for sharing x
Very interesting video! Good to know all of these things to think about when considering retirement abroad. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and commenting ♥️
Dog sitters, are also house sitters. They are not difficult to find. But it is an additional expense. Nice footage and music at the end. Very nice.
Thank you very much 😊
I have wondered about LGBTQ acceptance and legal recognition. This is the first time any RUclips channel has addressed in Portugal. Thank you!
Sexual orientation is a characteristic protected by the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. Article 13, which expresses the principle of equality, states:
"No one may be privileged, benefited, harmed, deprived of any right or exempt from any duty on account of ancestry, sex, race, language, territory of origin, religion, political or ideological convictions, education, economic situation, social condition or sexual orientation."
As in any other country in the world, there are instances of homophobia, but the common attitude of most Portuguese people is live and let live.
This was out intention, thanks for watching and commenting and supporting our channel ❤️🇵🇹
Thanks Nick and Sarah, this was a wonderful in depth interview with the guys. Many questions and concerns I've had were addressed. I'm in a similar situation with quality of life during retirement with those same concerns. Best, Ally
Thanks, Ally. I'd recommend you move to Portugal 🇵🇹 ❤️
That's why we made it, thank you 😊
As an American looking at Portugal to eventually retire to, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video!
Very cool couple! I love the bio-pool!
Bem vindos a Portugal, e não se preocupem, em pouco tempo vão falar português
@@destino2portugal I'm waiting for my Portuguese citizenship for two years and a half now, hope I will move someday, it looks like a great country
GREAT video!!! ❤❤👍🥰👍💕💗❣️
I don't blame the other people, it's what they've been moulded into, let's hope they too see what's really important in life ♥️
I think casting people in stereo types makes it more difficult to know or appreciate them.
Ha! wait til you meet me! I like to think folks might be slack jawed to find I don't fit your stereotype of an american 😄. And there's a lot of folks like me... we just don't call attention to our selves or things and are earthier than we let on 😄.
Don’t paint all Americans with a broad brush stroke. There are stereotypes everywhere but the majority of Americans are very down to earth and humble.
Loved this video so I have subscribed. Thank you!!
Thank you so very much 😊
nice to see more personal videos
I love your property! How much land do you guys have? My husband and I are avid gardeners. We are on 1 acre and plant mostly vegetables. Are you able to plant all veggies (pumpkins, squash, slicing tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, etc) all year round?
Thanks! We have about 3/4 of an acre with lemon, orange, lime, walnut, apricot, fig, and lots of olive trees.
@@wmm4602 any veggies?
Nick, the music is distracting from the convo and we are here for the convo.
Love this interview. As a Black female I can relate on the constant assault on female rights and how blacks/Mexicans are treated in the U.S. This is why I plan to retire to Portugal. ❤
Regarding dog sitting, alot of the expat FB groups people have find sitters.
Awesome interview, BBC next Nick 😂😂
Thank you 😊
Loved this entire interview with sooo much useful information for future expats.
Thank you Mike 😊
Travel insurance is ok too!
Travel insurance is how most folks satisfy the insurance requirement s of the visa application. It must include “repatriation of remains” coverage to fly your body back to your country of origin in the event you die during the process. Once you arrive it is easy to find more comprehensive health coverage from a local agent.
A wonderful and happy life! I envy you all.
Come and join us ♥️
@@destino2portugal Thank you. I would like to join you if possible. It would be very nice to have good friends like you. Here I'm in Seoul, Korea.

Great idea, Bill and Marcus 👌
Damn you Nick. It's bad enough you and Paula temp me every few days with a new listing....Now you had to go and interview folks from my home state of Pennsylvania. When I retired my wife continued working. I am covered under her insurance. I just received my yearly offering from my former employer. To purchase the insurance package I had when I retired would cost 14,400 dollars per year. For my wife to retire that figure would double. I need to be more assertive in my suggestions to look at Portugal!!!!
Yes sir, damn straight you do!
Maybe she needs to hear the wisdom of senor Bill and senor Marcus 😉
It’s not as hard as you think…..
My wife thinks I'm a crazy for even thinking about leaving the US. Just need to keep the idea alive.@@ptcountrybear7813
@@ptcountrybear7813 Absolutely right! We have just received our D7 visas from Canada and will be living in Montemor-o-Novo beginning next month. Great video, good job, lovely people, ❤
Retirement planning is crucial. Did you know that in some parts of the world, you need over a million dollars to retire comfortably?"
"Wow, that's a hefty sum. I've been retired for three years now, and I'm only 40😊😊
How is that possible?" i don't see my retirement anytime near, i am 44 ,so how is that possibile?
I guess if you can find a way to reduce your outgoings then you can retire on a lot less.
Love the video. Will be in Coimbra next year. How do I get contact with Paula? She is a such fun real estate agent. Love to see if she can help us find a homestead for us!
Just got our NIF, next get a bank account and then start the D7...
Back of the net 👌 best of luck and let us know if we can help 🙏
Thanks. This was a very informative video. I do wonder why they have not considered using a house sitter to watch the pets and house. Other people in Portugal do use them.
They are not easy to find and the we have heard mixed reviews of “Trusted House sitters”.
Very interesting video, thank you very much.
You mentioned a link to the Government's Portuguese language courses.

Fantastic video - covering a lot of topics for imigrants
Nice insights from a couple of real nice guys. There seems to be a theme on a lot of these channels of poor workmanship as seen in the closing shots of the leaking roof window. Is it difficult to find really good tradesmen there? Also do they have separate trades, ie carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers etc or do they mostly have jack of all trades?
We finally got it fixed. Finding good, reliable tradesmen can be tricky. The really good ones are always too busy.
This is beautiful!!!
