For me, I'd go 1. Opening riff to "Cygnus X-1" 2. Intro to "Something for Nothing" 3. Intro to "No One at the Bridge" 4. "Hemispheres" after the "We Shall call you Cygnus the God of Balance you shall be part" 5. Maybe some selected parts on "YYZ"
I love the opening of the first Cygnus X-1, not so much for what is there but for what is not there. It's only five notes then six repeated over several bars, but just wow.
Great list. Good job of reproducing one of the best bass players in the history of rock! I am like you, there are too many to list, no need to argue about it... it’s wonderful to hear these tones and watch you play this stuff!! I love Rush. I miss Neil and hope he is in the arms of God.
Good list, i have one thats is over looked. Prime Mover and Turn the Page. Geddy is going nuts during both of those songs! Hold Your Fire is so damn under rated
Extremely cool! Very hard picking picking 'top' stuff to showcase but all your choices come with good reasoning and that is what counts. More than that though is your enjoyment at playing these lines - it shows!! It is so apparent that you love and enjoy playing Geddy's bass lines and that makes watching so much more enjoyable for us. Great work and I would love to see more like this.
I really enjoyed your video and your playing. Also I think your list was great and I appreciated your perspective on what sections you chose as your favourites. Thank you for posting this.
Hard to pick 5, or even 10, not a wrong pick on the list, one of my personal faves is "Turn The Page", such a cool bass riff and it gets more complex, cool list, thanks
One of the most awesome bass moments I have seen from Geddy is in show of hands filmed live in 1988 at 3:00 in the song Marathon! It's just sick how Geddy comes out and plays that section..in fact I think in show of hands is the best form I personally have ever seen from Geddy! I play guitar but I love bass, drums, keyboards and most of all I love Rush to the high heavens!
Love your gloriously filthy Rickenbacker tone and I totally get what you did here! So nice to see choices based on what’s fun to play and not just the opportunity to show off. I play guitar and have a similar thing - doesn’t have to be the most intricate - sometimes it’s big, six-string chords you play from your elbow, other times it might me a really sensitive volume pedal. Just great fun!!
This is a nice video! Good choices, all. Circumstances is a way underrated Rush track in my opinion - a far more subtle story/meaning than The Trees and of course not the "exercise in self indulgence" that is La Villa Strangiato. It often slips under the radar, so to speak.
Freewill. Check out Tyler Warren's home studio montage of the entire Permanent Waves album. Awe inspiring. We miss ya, Neil! Hope you're in a much better place, living the life of a philosopher or a benevolent politician.
I feel your pain brother...so hard to narrow this down to just 5 but si happy you included Hemispheres one of Geddys true masterpiece bass lines. The very next song Circumstances has another nasty bass line and Geddy sings over it!!! I've seen it for myself live and was floored. Absolutely the sickest bass player of all time hands down. Thank you for the this. I love the way you pointed out the Limelight bass line as well. That was awesome!!!
For all you tin ear people search on this site vital signs bass only and be mesmerized. Or better yet this one ruclips.net/video/TWBPgtB9m3E/видео.html
I am of the opinion that Ged's work on Freewill should have been on that list however it would be so difficult to kick one of the others off... great video Brah!
I love this selection ‐ so many lists comprise of the predictable (but brilliant) basslines, but you've captured "moments" of Geddy, which is the undervalued element to his contribution. Well done! In Ireland, 2112 is the go-to tribute band.
What happened to La VillaStrangiato? If that bass line doesn’t grab you by the cahonas, nothing will. Hello. That one took me some time to perfect note for note.
Yep, why not! One thing that I think is really important in this kind of fun exercise is something you say yourself: being good or great has got NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with how difficult, fast, complicated, or hard to copy something is. Well said, sir! It's all about being musical. It's about playing something that's emotionally involving. Whether that's a tricky technical run or whether it's three notes, perfectly executed in combination with whatever the rest of the band is doing at the time, the important thing - the only thing that matters - is that it sounds good. I'm a drummer (of sorts), and it's always annoyed me that jazz Nazis [joke] will only acknowledge the worth of something that's a technical tour-de-force. You're not allowed to like anything simple. It's a stupid attitude that comes from constantly trying to defend your opinion (and taste in music) from 'the crowd'. At school, liking something as abstruse as jazz meant getting beaten up regularly unless you could demonstrate how fiendishly difficult something was. Pretty pathetic, really. I find listening to the great Buddy Rich (for example) quite tiresome, because everything he did had to be a challenge, a test, a trial, a great big chip-on-the-shoulder demonstration of how just how damn good he was. Remember his drum battle with Animal on The Muppet Show? Not a hint of humour or musicality in it - just the need to crush, kill, and destroy (a puppet) in front of an audience of children who couldn't see what he was so pi**ed off about. No question, Buddy was an absolute master of the kit, but... I never heard any joy in his playing. It was technically magnificent, but it didn't move me musically. And so, please, Mr Signals Productions guy, don't ever apologise for liking a bass part that 'merely' moves you or that's incredibly satisfying to play. It doesn't have to be complicated enough to thwart an ordinary mortal player; it just has to be good. As it happens, everything Geddy plays moves me musically, so perhaps your list should have been the Top 50 bass parts... 😁
Dude you are so right Getty is one of my favorite bass players along with the Les Claypool, who is Leslie Bullhead city but you know there's so many so many good bass players but they're just they're not they're not arrogant like guitar players you know what I mean they're just not rush is my favorite band of all man the drums the bass they guitar the singing is the best band there is to be also like dream theater that's another good bass player to John me young yes all right my name is Joel talk to you later man
Not a bad video. You should have tried playing Bytor and the dog exit stage left’s version ;) the Middle section on that song Geddy shows his magical Side of bass soloist ;) rock on 🤘
Dude! You totally missed the killer base solo in Different Stages in the song, Closer To The Heart. It is, by far, the greatest base line ever. Clean, simple and to the point. Even the other two virtuosos in that band played perfect backup to Geddy's solo. Mind blowing!!!
I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t have Mystic Rhythms in there … Geddy does this great funky bass line (Canadafunk) around 3:30 mark that I find always under appreciated … and I’m a guitar player ;)
Good selection, but not very good sound...Geddy play much cleaner, and punchier...that's why he's so iconic. Completely agree with Hemispheres intro...best bass line in the entire world.
Trees. Nothing special about it. Repetitive. Jacobs ladder… nothing special. Limelight, again, nothing special. You forgot the following: Freewill Bytor Analog kid The ending of leave my thing alone.
I agree! All great tunes. As I said in the intro though, these parts may not be the "Best" Geddy lines but they are lines that I enjoy playing. Not just for the technical aspect but for other reasons as well. For instance, Jacobs Ladder is just Gnarly and grooves although not technically difficult. Especially when you lock in with a good drummer. As far as Limelight goes, I've rarely seen a bass player and drummer play it correctly. As with a lot of RUSH, it is deceptively complicated.
Can't go wrong with Hemispheres. That whole side one is filled with Geddy Lee's masterful bass lines!
Great picks for bass lines. My personal favorite is The Camera Eye, during Alex's solo.
Absolutely!!!!
Yesssssssssss I love that one...Camera Eye is always been a favorite
Yessss! This is my favorite Rush bass line as well.
I love how Geddy attacked his Rick to get that tone. He played it like it owed him money.
Not a mention of Malignant Narcissism? That might just be one of the greatest jams Rush has ever done.
For me, I'd go
1. Opening riff to "Cygnus X-1"
2. Intro to "Something for Nothing"
3. Intro to "No One at the Bridge"
4. "Hemispheres" after the "We Shall call you Cygnus the God of Balance you shall be part"
5. Maybe some selected parts on "YYZ"
Great list, could’ve gone on for another hour and just scratched the surface
Great list!!
I would add...
Digital Man
Freewill
The Enemy Within
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
La Villa Strangiato!!
Too many to name!! 🤣
+1 for La Villa Strangiato.
I like your list way better than he is LOL
Tough to pick just 5 I agree. I no real order, my favorite 5 are, Headlong Flight, Territories, La Villa (you know), Turn the Page, and Witch Hunt.
Awesome selection on a seemingly impossible task. Well done 👍
Thank you sir!
Digital Man is one of my favorites from Rush, and agree there are a ton to choose from
Incredible to see the Rickenbacker again I wish you would have played it more when I seen them in concert.
Can't have too much Ric!
Thanks for doing this, Dig it.
I love the opening of the first Cygnus X-1, not so much for what is there but for what is not there. It's only five notes then six repeated over several bars, but just wow.
Well done Bravo
Digital man….monster bass tune cover to cover.
Wow! Thanks allot for this video
Great list. Good job of reproducing one of the best bass players in the history of rock! I am like you, there are too many to list, no need to argue about it... it’s wonderful to hear these tones and watch you play this stuff!! I love Rush. I miss Neil and hope he is in the arms of God.
The iconic bass sound of 70's same as Chris Squire ^^
Good list, i have one thats is over looked. Prime Mover and Turn the Page. Geddy is going nuts during both of those songs! Hold Your Fire is so damn under rated

Thank you for appreciating the video!
I really enjoyed your video and your playing. Also I think your list was great and I appreciated your perspective on what sections you chose as your favourites. Thank you for posting this.
Excellent video.
Really enjoyed this:)
Great choices. Digital Man is a great bass line also
Hard to pick 5, or even 10, not a wrong pick on the list, one of my personal faves is "Turn The Page", such a cool bass riff and it gets more complex, cool list, thanks
Love this list! great playing!

AGREED!!!!!!
Anthem. Natural science. But hearing the whole arena during yyz when it's nothing but the bass is badass
Love your gloriously filthy Rickenbacker tone and I totally get what you did here! So nice to see choices based on what’s fun to play and not just the opportunity to show off.

I'm surprised the riff in YYZ's triple solo is not on the list. But that top-five list is a pretty solid one too!
I feel your pain brother...so hard to narrow this down to just 5 but si happy you included Hemispheres one of Geddys true masterpiece bass lines. I don’t think I can even make a list of my top 30 Rush basslines
Vital signs, analog kid and animate.
For all you tin ear people search on this site vital signs bass only and be mesmerized. Or better yet this one ruclips.net/video/TWBPgtB9m3E/видео.html
When the Rick kicks in in “Countdown.”
Countdown is such a kickass underrated tune of theirs
so many crazyyyy bass lines lol
you need to do like top 50 :)
Subbed just for this video.
You’re a great player.
Love the sound of that rick
U do a alsome job
Off the top of my head YYZ, Digital man, headlong flight, free will and Time and motion.
I am of the opinion that Ged's work on Freewill should have been on that list however it would be so difficult to kick one of the others off... great video Brah!
Yeah...so Hard to choose!

I would love to hear you play the bass lines to Subdivisions and YYZ
Good stuff! i do need to do another vid!
What happened to La VillaStrangiato? If that bass line doesn’t grab you by the cahonas, nothing will. Hello. That one took me some time to perfect note for note.
Freewill.
Good job
TY
Nice job brother. Rush on...
Ty!

Definitely Hemispheres was the best you played bur I still like the jam from all three from Xanadu as it comes out as my phone's ringtone.😁

I'm not a bass player but it seems like the intro to Headlong Flight would be a blast to play. What are your thoughts on that one?
Great tune and fun to play!
Yes! I seen them live and he killed it on bass -and singing the lyrics??? Crazy great skills
Nice choices. Music isn't always about complexity, it's about well chosen notes.
I prefer his Fender Jazz tone though. 🤷♂️
Well Said!
You should’ve called this your top five favorite Rickenbacker tones from Geddy.
Driven has some quality bass in it.
Dude! You totally missed the killer base solo in Different Stages in the song, Closer To The Heart. It is, by far, the greatest base line ever. Clean, simple and to the point. Even the other two virtuosos in that band played perfect backup to Geddy's solo. Mind blowing!!!
Free will and entire lead section of anthem.
I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t have Mystic Rhythms in there … Geddy does this great funky bass line (Canadafunk) around 3:30 mark that I find always under appreciated … and I’m a guitar player ;)
Hemispheres, yes. The wizards were at the height of their dark arts...
I'm still hip!!
Good thing Ged is a baseball fan. Horrible bass player! Totally kidding of course! This band changed my damn life! They truly did!
Freewill rules!
And you so missed the Open Secrets bass under the guitar solo.
Hemispheres is just Superior
Indeed it is!
the truth is that 5 is too little for a Geddy Lee list
Y-Y-Z
Red Lenses kicks buttinski
Not adding YYZ its a crime
When did Geddy Lee get owned by "Russia" ?
Good selection, but not very good sound...Geddy play much cleaner, and punchier...that's why he's so iconic.
Completely agree with Hemispheres intro...best bass line in the entire world.
Only Jack Bruce was greater than Gary.
Why are you in a camper
Why Not? :)
This list was trash but it's an opinion everyone calm down
Trees. Nothing special about it. Repetitive.
Jacobs ladder… nothing special. Limelight, again, nothing special.
You forgot the following:
Freewill
Bytor
Analog kid
The ending of leave my thing alone.

@@signalsproductions7888 great point. Have you played any of those songs I listed? I would love to listen and congratulate you on your efforts.😊
yes indeed! Great tunes as well and thank you! :)
"True Rush fans..." It's such a dumb thing to say. I cringe when someone says it.
Limelight….. boring
