      My mom used to bring me to a hairdresser, it was the most awful experience I had, everytime i went there I went home crying because I asked for a tiny cut and I found my hair bob like. Thanks God when I was a little bit older (around 14/15) I decided to stand up for myself and REFUSED to see that hairdresser again and chose one myself. Consider I was super afraid when I saw the scissors (I guess the term is phobia? please forgive my English, I do my best to write it with less mistakes as possible) it took me almost 10 years to get over it with my new hairdresser, she is literally the best!

      Carla Moore take it with a grain of salt? Taking it with a grain of salt would indicate it doesn't apply to you/isnt true. While not directed specifically at African American's, and being basically excludatory when talking about blondes and redheads, most if not all of these are universal. All human hair grows from the root, no human will "catch" dandruff, no hair product can make cell division speed up so that hair grows faster....all these apply to you regardless of pigmentation. As far as "assist" with the natural tight curl, that wasn't the subject of this video

    • @OpenSoul-l7e
      @OpenSoul-l7e 6 лет назад +50

      Natural black curly hair is very different from straight white hair. We have different routines for our hair, that's all she's saying.

      Kristin Deandre Kristin Deandre I completely understand the difference. I know that if you try to treat Caucasian hair like you would African American hair you'll cause "cradle cap" among other things and treating African-American hair like you would Caucasian hair can cause it to break and fall out. But my point is the video is about common myths related to hair and hair growth. Telegen applies to all people. Hair growing from the roots and not being affected by products or haircuts is true for everyone. Number of hair follicles is genetic in all races. I could go on but hopefully you get what I was saying... The actual myths apply to you, even if the advice like that about how to use shampoo and conditioner doesn't.

    Genetics really do play a role on how fast your hair grows. My hair is SUPER long and SUPER thick and I wash it and condition it, I don’t use hair dryers or straighten it or anything but in two years my hair has grown from shoulder length to down past my hips, so genetics play a role on how healthy your hair is and how fast it grows

  • @amordebelleza4770
    @amordebelleza4770 6 лет назад +14

    i am a hairstylist and I agree with the majority of this but not all. keratin treatments can infact help damaged and distressed hair it will however distroy someones healthy protine rich hair because it will harden and break off from over keratinization. pony tails dont make hair fall out but do cause breakage especially if you consistently wear it in the same spot. have you ever notice your hair growth to platue at the shoulders or chin and it seems to never grow past that point? most usually its because your not trimming the split ends often enough. your hair is actually growing but the split ends are growing up the hair shaft and breaking off giving it the appearance that it isnt growing, so make sure to get regular trims. there was a few other things i cant remeber unless i go threw the video again, but in general this video was pretty accurate.

    Question 5. True, when you cut your hair, you have to trim at least half an inch off for full trim, if you don’t, your split ends will become larger and then bottom and low center will become brittle and your bottom hairs will snap off!! Thats because your hair can only grow to a certain length before it falls out, and that length is determined by genetics! You can get extensions however, which is what most people with super long hair are wearing actually, if you get them put in professionally, they can look very natural! I knew a girl thats on the road to recovery from Anorexia that had suuuuper thin hair, but wore extensions every day. We were in hair school together, and I didn't even know she wore extensions until she took them out in front of me! (clip ins)
      Btw, taking pills won't help the length of your hair, they can help with how strong or healthy it is, but not length. And even then, taking more than one dose won't help as well since there is only a certain amount your body can process at a time.

    • @Kai-kr1cb
      @Kai-kr1cb 6 лет назад +9

      phoebewry your hair has a predetermined length Unfortantly.. Blame genetics. But ik a few ppl who changed it by simply taking AMAZING care of their hair.. Many have hair past their knees now.. None of us have hair extensions its all our natural hair..

      A friend of mine also thought she could never get her hair longer than shoulder length. But eventually she did and it grew really long actually. After a couple of years she decided to go for a pixie cut though because the long hair took to much maintenance. She is Chinese but unlike most Chinese her hair is rope like. Extremely thick and dense. And if she wouldn't style it daily she would look like a stray as she would describe it herself. So she decided that eventually she was happy to know that she can have long hair, but she likes short hair better.

    Things I’ve learned from experience: Too much Biotin will cause an itchy scalp and bumps; don’t take over 5,000 mgs a day. Wellbutrin causes hair loss, and I can say that because I was on it twice, and it happened each time. Within a month of stopping it, so did the hair loss. Losing hair is also a sign of an under-active thyroid.

    My hair grows abnormally slow, so I’ve been trying to grow it out from a very young age. My mom told me the myth about how cutting your hair makes it grow faster, and I realized that my mom didn’t say that because she was lying, but because she legitimately thought that.

    Formaldehyde is definitely NOT used in autopsies. It is used in embalming and preservation for dissection.
    Also, hair ties damage your hair because they cause friction. The friction in turn cause the hair shaft to 'swell' and make it susceptible to breakage.

  • @violetmoon5877
    @violetmoon5877 6 лет назад +38

    Eating the right vitamins and putting proper nutrition on the hair scalp DOES make it grow faster. It makes sure the hair has what it needs to grow thicker and faster. You just need the right stuff. I grew my hair an inch in like 3 weeks when it took me like 3 months for half an inch before ... rice water especially is really good for speeding hair growth and thin places that had no hair before on my edges have even started to grow back and are quite long for the short amount of time I've done it.
    If you hair is at max growth speed and has 100% of everything it needs already then it probably wouldn't speed up growth. But if your hair lacks any of these things then it will definitely grow faster. Don't believe everything you hear on the internet folks

      That 100% is what's genetically set. You can only make the speed of the growth slower by doing the wrong stuff in your hair treatment and vitamin intake. So when you want to speed it up you can only go as far as 100%, not 110% or 120%. And for everyone that 100% is different. For you it might be an inch in 3 weeks. For others it might be less depending on everyone's own genetically set 100%.

      75vasso My hairdresser has me cutting my hair monthly, but not to increase the length, but take off any split ends. I dye my hair a lot & with ever changing colours (get bored easy). She also said wash your scalp, but condition the last hand full length of hair. If I am not air drying hair to put a heat protector on it.

    Trimming your hair with specifically designed trimming shears will make your hair grow longer because split ends will cause hair loss. Neat ends are healthier, look better and prevent breakage! Just remember not to ever use your hair shears for day to day tasks. My hairdresser shared this tip with me and it worked! So if yr hair just "doesn't grow" try this. Your hair grows about a half an inch a month (mine grows faster because it is very thick.). Just cut off about half of this new growth every other month and you'll see a difference.

    Hear protectors don't 100% protect your hair and still to some extent effect the elasticity. You can still damage the hair if the dryer is too hair or pointed at your scalp too much or if you just do it too much. This I got from a hair dresser and tbh I did find out the hard way too. As for the air drying. You can rub or pat your hair downward gently if you have a microfibre towel. It actually is soft enough it won't cause damage or frizz if you do it right .

  • @KROkilljoy

    With the conditioner thing, while yes you only really need it on the ends, I always tell my clients that if you have a dry scalp (skin flakes, not dandruff) to go ahead and condition your scalp as well, also keep it moisturized in the winter months since that's usually when our skin tends to be the driest. A healthy scalp will help insure the health of your hair as a whole.
    Also make sure you know the difference between dandruff and dry scalp. Dandruff will be scaly and waxy while dry scalp will have skin flakes or the white powder on peoples shoulders they always show in dandruff shampoo commercials.

    4:37 In India, Mundan Sanskar (ceremony) is one of the 16 sacred Sanskars in the Hinduism, is done to shave a child’s head for the very first time.
    I've witnessed hair thickening of my baby nieces and nephews. IT'S CERTAINLY NOT A MYTH.
    Scientifically, the hair follicles get stimulated and babies have better blood circulation than adults.
    However, if adults shave their head inorder to thicken them the possibility varies due to some factors: physical (health) , dietary(food consumption), biological (hereditary) etc.
    Blood circulation to the scalp is as essential as dietary requirements. You can increase it by physical activities such as Yoga, head stand/ hand stand.
    Lazy tip for healthy hair: sleep on your bed or sofa with your head hanging on the edge (for 5 mins daily) and massage your scalp with lukewarm organic coconut oil. It's such a fcking task but thank me later xd
    If you suffer from major hair loss pattern or balding please get your health diagnosed.
    Honest opinion.
    Take care of yourself, beauties:)x

    Something to promote hair growth is massaging your scalp. Using your fingers or a scalp massager promotes blood flow to your scalp which will help it grow faster. Hair can also grow 1/2 an inch to 1 inch per month.
    Another thing to mention is that trimming your hair regularly wont help grow hair, but it will help remove dead ends and split ends, which will help maintain the length of your hair.
    This is all information i have learned in cosmetology school so enjoy 😊

    edit: I'm a natural blonde people who are natural blondes have the thickest hair compared to any natural hair color search it up my hair is so thick it looks like a wig

      Don't stress. I have thin, fine hair, but lots & lots of it, as I've aged & gone through life's changes it has thinned out. Summers are so much cooler & I can plait my hair, yet when I was 13 I had no hope, because like you it was hard/slow growing. My elder sister had very thin hair & not much of it, she was envious of my hair. Humans rarely seem to be happy with what they have.

      Mariya Soychuk I never meant to say thin hair grows slow or fast it's solely based on genetics but with thick hair it gives the appearance of it being super short but if you take a couple layers out ( which you can't in real life without shaving parts of their head) ) you can see their hair might be much longer than their hair that's thick

      Cheese Lover Girl. I re read all that was written in your feed. I think you have hair like my friend Addie. If you pulled her curly hair to its fullest it is long, but because it is so very curly it looks short & has to grow through some awful looking stages before it was long enough for the weight to slightly unbend the tight curls. As a now grown woman she keeps it short. I now totally understand your dilemma.

    • @terriberryhill3051
      @terriberryhill3051 6 лет назад +2

      Cheese Lover Girl My hair is also very thick and curly, but grows quickly. It takes about 4 years to go from chin length to waist length for me. When I was a teen it took forever for my hair to grow too. While pregnant with my first child, because of hormones, my hair fell out. I thought I was going bald. It came in after the baby, but not as thick as before. That is when mine started growing faster. Just hang in there, it will grow!! I'm 52 now and have waist length hair. Just know it will give you headaches because of the weight. I keep mine in a braid or down most of the time. I can only wear a pony tail or updo for about 4 hours before my head hurts. There are pros and cons of long thick curly hair. Good Luck!!

    Being a licensed cosmetologist made this video interesting. While it is true that no topical product can make your hair grow faster, each hair follicle is supplied with nourishment from the bloodstream that gives it the ability to generate new cells. That’s why people with eating disorders or serious illnesses lose hair. So I’ve noticed that hair tends to grow better with a diet full of protein (because the hair strand itself is made of 97% protein). But all in all, great video !

    with Keratin straightening products you need to know, what brand, what is the ingredients and if they are lasting very long, if the product last more then 3-4 months that definitely not good for you, either contains nasty silicones or more worst parabens. Keratin straightening products (if used correctly) are life saver for some women. Some hair really has lots of frizz and keratin products makes the hair easier to manage. So before saying its nasty, you have to see the positives and negatives. (radiation therapy is nasty but kills cancer cells too.)

    Enjoyed this as a redhead :) But the last one's not the whole truth - whilst male hair itself isn't different to female, men tend to have way higher levels of testosterone. The hormone promotes a much more oily scalp and skin leading to faster, healthier hair growth - hence men's longer eyelashes as well, but also the more severe teenage acne.

      I can only disagree with the part that you can't speed the growing process. I've seen people take biotin and there hair in only a month Grew like 2 inches. Way faster then before. And got healthier. And its true because it worked for me.

    • @k8core
      @k8core 6 лет назад +9

      It probably means that those people had lack of biotin in their bodies and that made the hair growth process slow down. And balancing this with taking biotin would make the hair reach their maximum growth pontential (which may be also a genetic thing). That's my guess

      k8core , FULL DISCLAIMER!! NOT A COSMETOLOGIST!! But, I have done personal research on human hair, and what k8core stared is what most likely happened in those cases. Everyone hair growth cycle is different, same with textures, and thickness. I have five sisters, and not ONE of us have the same exact hair type. Color included. There is nothing one can do to make ones hair grow faster. It’s like a thirteenth year old wearing weights in their ankles, or attempting to sleep upside down to make themselves taller. It is not going to happen. But, I do agree with you, there are things one can do(even without knowing) to slow down ones hair growth.

    Homemade masks do make my hair grow faster and other homemade products. It is growing 0.9 to 1.2 inch a month. Yesterday I measured my hair growth on a braid (it's in braids right now). In three weeks it has grown 0.71 inches.
    The only thing I fully will agree with is that cutting your ends is not always necessary. If you care properly for your ends, than you hardly have to cut it at all.

    Dandruff is actually a fungal infection on the scalp which can be triggered by a hormonal imbalance that lowers your immune system so it isn’t contagious but you are likely to develop it if you use someone’s comb(who has dandruff) and you are at risk of getting it

    The hair trimming one always made me lol. It just makes no sense at all!!

  • @olivyuh

    Actually dandruff is caused by overgrowth of a fungus we all have naturally on the scalp called malassezia. It isn't contaigous cause we all already have this fungus on our scalp, but the excessive growth of this fungus can happen to anyone. As long as you shampoo your scalp and rinse it out thoroughly, it won't be a huge problem.
    Also, Keratin is the protein your hair is made of, so treatments with keratin are good, but in moderation. Too much keratin can actually dry your hair out and make it more brittle. If you have been using keratin products and it seems to do nothing, try a powerful hydrating treatment to add some moisture back.
    (Take it from a pro hairstylist 👌)

      It does help with strengthening your hair and nails, but just the portions that are growing. I'm a hairstylist and I take biotin and started with collagen as well! However I just have the worlds most fragile nails, and supplements help A LOT!
      That being said, going over the dosage of those biotin gummies isn't going to help at all, it just means you're gonna have to buy them more often. It's like when you eat a ton of Vitamin C, your body just flushes out the excess.

    Uhhhhh cutting your hair does help it grow. When you have split ends and you don’t cut them , thy will spread up causing your hair not to be able to grow.

      This actually isn't totally true. When the hair splits or becomes very dry at the ends it will typically break off. So it's not that your hair isn't growing, it's just that over time the hair is breaking off, not allowing you to see that its growing

    Not mentioned, the one that wearing a cap makes you go bald. Some people just insist on getting cause and effect backwards. I'm bald for the same reason all my maternal uncles were bald, and that's why I wear a cap.

    I don't know about others but I got my then Samoan-like hair chemically straightened and it was THE BEST decision that SAVED me. Once it grew out, my hair type appeared better; this maybe due to my ending puberty and my system leveling out by that time.
