  • Welcome to 3 yard quilt month. I am loving Donna Robertson and her 3-yard quilts. The next 4 episodes will all be featuring 3 yard quilts The concept is beyond genius and I have had so much fun playing with them. For this quilt, I figured I would show off a bit and Zhuzh it up by replacing the Fabric #1 with 4 different fabrics. I also added some raw edge applique with my Accuquilt, it gives it a totally different look. This is the Easy Street Quilt Tutorial

Hi, I usually break down Donna’s instructions. I read the pattern once or twice and make my own bullets points so that it is a concise summary - which is the way I like things. It helps me understand the pattern better by writing it down, and I am less likely to make mistakes. Really works for me as I usually panic when I first read a pattern as it’s too much for me!

Hi, i just purchased a 3-yard quilt book, “Make it Christmas”, i made the “Wonderland” quilt, exact measurements, though when the blocks were laid out, i immediately noticed large spaces that needed something, so i created a round ornament, realize this is an older version, however, i wanted you to know i got some great ideas, to starch my fabric stiff and since i do not own an “Accu-cut” machine, use my cricut to cut appliqué designs. Looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your thought process and ideas, very much appreciated.

I agree with you. Some of the wording and directions could be a lot clearer in her patterns. I'm a strong intermediate quilter and I have to really read and think through what she is trying to say. She has made a video explaining some of the terminology which is helpful. I watch all her videos and she did state that she irons her seams open (which I do too) so no need for pressing this way and that way and arrows, etc. It makes piecing a LOT easier and the seams lay very flat. That's probably why she doesn't include ironing directions. About tutorials....since her patterns are pretty easy I'm sure she doesn't want to give exact measurements and step by step tutorials for fear that her customers wouldn't have to buy her patterns. Missouri Star gives very precise tutorials. I just watch them several times, write down the information then make the quilt without buying the pattern.

I didn't know she irons her seams open. That explains it. I love her patterns so much and I have many more to share. Thanks for leaving a comment

I'm working my way through your videos... maybe you could have a show on the 3 yard quilts. Don't show the instructions or anything buy maybe what some look like.. and maybe a little trunk show if you kept any. Me personally have a fabric from 1997 that I want to use but am struggling with a big bloc
