Backgammon pieces can be called many things including stones, droughts, checkers, men, etc … There are several cleaners you can use to test including Form 409 and Wenol. You can also rub it on your jeans and check for a petroleum smell. If it feels like there is give under my fingernail, I usually buy because Bakelite and early plastic is softer.
I was talking to my wife about this, some people just want it gone and are happy with getting say $5 and the reseller is happy too because they can get $30, it’s a win/win.
As someone who has sold and bought from garage sales know what price you are willing to let things go at beforehand. Like the first gentleman. Shouldnt have sellers remorse from a garage sale. Purpose is to get stuff gone
I tell 90% of the people I buy from that I'm a reseller. They don't care. Normally, they all say that they don't have the time to put it online or just want it gone.
@@cincinnatipickeri think they dont want to go through the process of selling on ebay and shipping and all that they rather take what they can and not worry about that stuff
I just found a backgammon set, minus one chip and the board, at my local Goodwill Outlet th8s week. The marble swirl pattern looks very similar to my set except mine are white and brown. The only maker's mark I could find was under the cup shakers. I confirmed mine is bakelite and worth about $100-125.
Easy test for Bakelite - use a bit of Formula 409 on a paper towel and wipe the object - if Bakelite it will leave a yellowish or brown residue on the paper towel. And as per my wife AliceOps great deal on the lunchboxes! Hope the Medi-kit has some accessories in it!
I just bumped into your channel by accident. Have watched about 4 or 5 of your sessions here. Will say this ~ you have a great attitude! That goes a long ways at yard sales. 😉
0:55 50 year old headphones??? Uhhh no grandpa those headphones are not anywhere close to being 50 years old lmao! They look about 15-20 years old max!
Backgammon checkers can be made of bakelite. Bakelite is really heavy for its size (you made the comment that they are light). Most assured way to test for bakelite is with Simichrome polish. I think Kat (Nurse (ret) Flipper) has a video on it.
Did great John. Thats allot of lunch boxes for sure. I think you'll double your money as you mentioned. New in box coffee maker, can't beat that. Keep the videos coming. Be safe.
I don’t know how far you travel but I seen on FB on of the gated communities out here near my house is having a open yard sale coming up look up Lake waynoka yard sale it’s out by sardina Ohio
Oh man John im an 80s collector and i absolutely love lunchboxes. I'll pay you triple plus shipping for all those! Lol would be so lucky to buy a table full for $50 awesome awesome buy.
Did you notice the condition?!? They were all pretty bad. You better look closely before making a big offer. Some of these, in better condition, are selling for under $20 on eBay.
I believe John has plans for them, but I'm a collector, and I don't mind a little rust, gives it character, I don't like that they all didn't have thermos's I thought maybe a few would have been there. But even still with that many I don't think $125-$150 is too much.
There is nothing that makes me not want to work with a buyer more than a buyer asking "what's your bottom dollar" or "what's your lowest price?" If you want a lower price, make an offer. 1. It's disrespectful, they are basically saying, I only want to give you the absolute least that your time and experience is worth. 2. It shuts off negotiations. I'm not going to under cut myself and actually say the very least I will go. And if you come back with an offer that is lower than my "least" I just said, the answers going to be absolutely "no" because I would be under cutting myself on every future deal with that person because they know I'm a pushover.
John, my husband and I watch all your videos- you did good on the lunch boxes. Please take a look at that Para-medic play set/ not a lunch bo, but I'm sure you know this by now. It can go for good money especially if it has its orinal doctors' play instruments inside. Can go for $50 to $70 by itself.
I helped my young 90 year old friend do a yard sale. And we didn’t price everything but she made $1,000 & had some great stuff! But pricing was crazy (of course), ppl came back at the end where we discounted everything. One guy tried to get his goebbels (German) collectables for basically free. So I stepped in & said I’d buy them for X (not what they were marked but 1/2 more. He paid the 1/2 more which was still cheap! He could double or triple his $$ if he was a reseller! There was costume jewelry (minimum) that lots of folks gravitated to (she sold jewelry & just retired from it). Not having the jewelry marked was difficult! She’ll have a separate sale this fall with all jewelry marked.
Great videos i have been watching for ever it feels like some of those people were jerks especially the jersey girl she was rolling her eyes and everything you also hearted my video a couple years ago and you made my day then so thx man
And you hearted agian thx so much man i appreciate it everytime we drive past a garage or yard sale i always make to stop and i have learned alot from you
Love that you get such a variety of things! All your knowledge is definitely demonstrated by what you buy! Thank you for sharing!

I sold that bakelite Cardinal set in box for over $200 and also paid a dollar. That was a really good find!
Awesome!
Isnt it awkward with the seller to say your a reseller.. i feel like they immediately think they could have sold it higher

In my experience, the sellers never care when I tell them I resell. They want stuff gone. They know eBay is an option but they don’t wanna do it

I thought the same thing
32 years old (1992) if they were Sony Walkman Sports SRF-HM55 FM/AM Radio
Those backgammon chips are made of CATALIN. They also make old radios out of the same thing and are highly collectible.
Wish you would make videos again as to processing and shipping your ebay orders.
Did yall move from the other building? If so let us get a new set up tour, great finds!

You walked by some pretty valuable tools there. Any reason you didnt even glance?
Just sold a rocawear shirt internationally a few days ago. Took awhile to move, but I got full asking price.

I agree. Her daughter was the one that asked what her bottom dollar was
@@cincinnatipicker I was just referring to the thumb nail, I missed where it was actually said in the video.
How come u didn’t buy the lebum james jersey?
John rulz 50 bux for all those lunch box was a steal
Should of said yes,, when she asked if you are a collector she might of had some more that she didn't bring it out..
I had a pair of the Sony headphones when I was a teenager! I’m 53 now!

Thanks for the heads up!
The box by itself sells for $15-$30 in better shape. They are all over the place but the price has really come down lately on these.
Cringey when a sale pulls that crap like the lady did with the Iverson jersey. Glad you left it.
Omg!! $50 for ALL those lunch boxes?? That’s a heck of a score!! Nice!
We never do sales like this in the uk it's very dangerous here😂
The pieces are called pips.
Uncle Buck is one of my favorites !!!
I LIKE TURTLES
🐢
American Pickers brought me here.....and I'm not leaving 🙃
My man covered the most intriguing lunchbox 😂 since it’s vintage did it say berenstein bears or berenstain
The chips might be Bakelite, rub it really hard with your thumb to create friction and if it smells like formaldehyde after then it’s Bakelite
FYI next time pay a little more comes a long way easy money made on those lunch boxes !!
Why would he pay more? 😂😂😂 the seller should’ve not agreed to the offer
Hey John, any chance to get some more packing videos? Been a while
I hope not. That's boring to me haha.
@@deanraney1049 i liked it
I know she didnt say $70 for that jersey. I bet she still has them too.
I see one sold on eBay for $30 and 1 for $10 😅

Uncle Buck for a Buck
Sorry I’m late to watch but I met up with my friend for a game! Killer deals🎉
It’s funny how he said those Sony sports headphone radio was 50 years old when it’s from the 90s.
Time flies. It won't be long until that's true.
You should do a froggy flips collab
1:23 More like 40 to 35 years old.
I was wanting Jon to correct him so badly. Unfortunately, I would assume he's lying about it working too.
You screwed them on lunch boxes.
50 years old???
That guy was smoking something or just flat out lying.
I'm guessing the headphones were 30/35 years old. 90s?
Nice
Idk ....haggling to but those lunch boxes for 40-50 seems shady af.
You just passed on all those tools why? There was probably some money to be made there
Ask Mr. When in doubt part it out Kevin..............
Check for Bakelite. Test with Simichrome polish.
Good luck!
Blessings,
K.T.
"how much for the catchers gear" "9 bucks" "5 bucks? Ill take it" wth!?!
