My father started farming the family farm in the early 50's for 40 years, he never made a loss, droughts and pestilence were never an issue when costs are less than 30% of your gross income. Today with costs %80 of my gross income I slip over the edge often and never quite make it up in a good year.
Man I feel so bad for you I can relate to your pain, frustration, and anger. We ranch and we started producing the operations feed it’s very frustrating when you don’t get moisture in winter or summer best of luck to you.
The moisture cycle is broken on earth in my opinion, because they keep messing with the weather. (geoengineering, climate engineering) We are so damn dry in western South Dakota, it could cause ranchers and farmers to sell out or completely rearrange their operation. This "drought" and heat this last summer (2024) was unprecedented!!!!
Wes, On the missing corn row because of a broken row unit on planter, if in a dry year, the one missing row will give it's moisture to the adjoining rows on either side, making the adjoining rows very robust. Yes, maybe got weeder because of no seed, however, it very seldom affects yields whatsoever.
Wes have you tried just taking one or two seeds let your Son grow them in a flower pot to teach about growth of a plant stages, then take nippers to cut what ever is in season to harvest but to teach about rain 🌧️ by watering the plant then use a second pot normal soil lack of rain but use a spray bottle mist the soil as tenths of rain. So it grows slower if at all. ??
i went thru a drought in 88 so bad we were cutting marsh hay to feed cattle. then in 2012 it was so bad my crop insurance adjustor decided i better get combining NOTHING cause there WILL be some thing?? ha ha. i told him im ready to go he came at 9 am in a hour on 3 different fields he said NEVER mind it doesnt pay? i said OH NO you DIDNT believe what i said so you WILL stay till im done at 4pm. well i kept him in the combine had food and drinks for him and i shut down at 6pm and a combine 166 bushel hopper it NEVER got a quarter full. ha ha
This year I heard the ground can only use 300-500 pounds of lime a year and it is more effective to only use that much rather than put on tons every 5 or so years. Interesting thought to spread it out over time. May be worth a try on a couple fields.
Droughts are never fun things to endure. Here Australia they are common alot of crops farms plan for Droughts and not average or good years. We have recoreds and photos from one our family farms of a 15 year long drought. 1500 beef cows 6500 sheep, 120 horses and 30 dairy cows were all sent to slaughter or died from stravation, this was early 1900s all that survived from that drough were 4 jeresy cows 8 stock horses and 6 draught horses
Probably like around here all anyone hunts are bucks.Anyone wants to hunt my land they have to shoot a doe, even if they let it lay, then they can hunt their buck.
Life is full of ups and downs. I sold my factory for full asking price (retirement plan) and 30 days later I had emergency triple bypass surgery. Then this past July I had my first heart attack. Got 4 Harley's in my garage and all I want to do is be able to ride one. Need to be at 95%+ to be able to safely ride. Also have 2 herniated discs in my lower spine. Grrrrrr. Still above ground so life is good.
That stinks bud. I hope you’ll soon be able to do what you love to do. 💪🏼 in the mean time… try something different. Maybe try a cruise. I’ve always wanted to try that. Or maybe go on a RV road trip. That would be cool. Could always find a driver if you’re not able to drive yourself. Heck I’ll drive ya! Lol. Could get a new off road vehicle like a Sherp and have some exploration trips. Idk bud there are a lot of things you can still do. Wishing the best for you.

Too much lime. 3-4 Tonn per acre. ???? Seems excessive to me but I never saw the soil test results

When the ph is 4 then you have to dump it on
@ I agree. How often do you tend to go back to those same fields? Probably at least 5 years?
Us in Northern nj 2023 was a hard one and 2024 but can't control mother nature

Is this video a repost? I watched this video seems like several days ago.... not 1. Hmmm??
❤❤❤Good job eaçh day is certainly a test of ones survival skills when farming never got the money until it's in the bank 🇦🇺👍🇦🇺👍🇦🇺👍🇦🇺👍
Does nobody hunt deer up there?

I guess thats why they call it farming and not harvesting.
My food plots look the worst I have ever seen. You need some deer hunters in there.

Heey Ad!
Only good thing about 2024 is we elected Donald Trump
Yeah sure and just like that the election wasn't rigged anymore and farmers now love anything electric thanks to our new 1st lady Elonia.
