This is the best interview I've ever seen with Alex Ferguson. The interviewer obviously knows his stuff, gets Fergie's trust and then it just flows. And Ferguson's memory for teams, players and formations even from the early 60s is astonishing.
Still remember the night jock died. All of Scotland 🏴 mourned (some didn’t) a giant in the game. Winning the European Cup with a squad of all Scots was incredible.
Shankly came up to Stein after the '67 final and said, "John, you're immortal." And so he is. I support both Liverpool and Rangers, and as much as I also admire Fergie, I wish we'd had Jock Stein in the dugout in Mexico. Anyone who doesn't isn't the full shilling.
Although I never supported Celtic as a boy, Jock Stein was still my hero. He truly made good teams great. He was a wonderful, principled character who never forgot his working class roots.
Fergie loved Stein and rightly so. Really enjoyable to see Fergie happy and tell such great stories about Jock! Stein was a brilliant manager just brilliant! RIP Jock Stein.
The importance and influence of Jock Stein must never be underestimated. When you watch and read old interviews with him, you can hear quite a bit of Sir Alex Ferguson in there.
A great man talking about a legend....great to watch Edit: Remember when Scotland produced the likes of Davie Cooper etc we actually had world class players
Kudos to Alex, just shows how close the old firm actually were, in terms of friendship - in spite of the hatred that the press sold. Never seen this before, really great video.
Alex Ferguson for all his success will never let you tell him he is the G.O.A.T. He will always defer to Jock Stein as the G.O.A.T. Greatest Of All Time
Jock was my hero when I was growing up in Glasgow in the 60's now I'm finding out the detail. As a kid I knew there was something so special and fair about the man..
I rem Alex Ferguson when he was manager of St Mirren going round the town in a van with PA on it. Saying come out and support your local team. No airs or graces with Ferguson when trying to encourage support of his team.
S O Achumfaegovan plastered on his desk at old Trafford....Ferguson has never had a bad word for anyone from back in the day....never forgot his roots which always impressed me
When Jock was a Celtic player the whole team went to Wembeley to see the famous Hungarian team play England in 1953. Jock liked what he saw and tried to emulate that style of play.
Great interview and memories. They should have had Fergie on in that 65 Cup Final - if nothing else he'd have stopped Billy McNeil at set plays.....I believe he's a good hearted man.

They were also all Scottish, and that's not being racist or anything else, it's just a fact. What a way to pass away after "Supper Cooper" put us on the way to another World Cup. Born and raised Scottish Celt here, but my grandad was from Manchester and watched the babes when he was a young man. Scottish football has been marginalised in recent years due to tv money artificially inflating some leagues to the detriment of others. Even today I seen a comment "what's the point of Scottish football?" Stein, Busby, Shanks and Fergie. But tbh, the saddest thing for me isn't that the game is being ruined by money, but the lack of kids I see kicking a ball in the street.
Aye ... it's making me greet like a bairn...f*#k, it makes me proud.. I'm a Liverpool fan but as a Scot, he is easily the best manager since Jock Stein.

Jock Stein was an incredible manager. Shankly, Stein, Busby. All cut from the same cloth, and from the same country. Amazing.
