    That middle airbag seems like a really good idea. Is it just me or has no one else seen this on any other car?

      The VW ID.3 also has it (not yet tested), I think its a new trend which we are gonna see a lot more often. The ID.3 airbag is in the middle arm rest.

    I think they should do rear-end collision tests as well.
    It must be important especially for small hatchback cars.

      Yeah, a lot of "safe" cars deform horrible in the back, and rear passengers are left for dead...

      yup agree for hatchbacks, SUVs and MPVs, rear crash evaluation needs to be done...
      i know that some have rear crash test done but its mainly to evaluate if the fuel tank will/can leak during a rear impact...

      You can cross reference the 50mph rear impact fuel tests to compare vehicle deformation between cars.

    I love the new style and the new test, this makes your videos much better. Before you'd have different cars doing different speeds in the AEB tests and it was confusing.
    I'm surprised to see this only has 86% in side impact, especially considering it has central airbags between the front passengers!

      Actually in the side impact the Yaris performed very well. The 86% is due to the not excellent score in the new frontal impact test (mobile progressive deformable barrier). But that’s a new test, and the Yaris is the first car to undergo it. Let’s wait and see how other cars will perform in that test.

    Serious car accident between Toyota yaris vs hilux, which happened in front of me this year.
    Two cars considered Total losses.
    But two car owners really can walk out from the car, minor injured..
    Really fantastic cars.
    It really impressed me towards Toyota yaris quality against crashing....

    I think this is great that Euro NCAP Has came out with so many different vigorous tests. Although if a tiny Toyota Yaris can score an 86% in the movable deformable barrier test, I think the test should be a lot more severe. With a barrier weighing as much as a typical box truck and higher rate of speed...

      It’s simple physics, Force=Mass x Acceleration. So if you double the mass of a vehicle, you will double the force at the same speed.

    Toyota did a great job with the active safety system as those accidents because of change of direction are the hardest to avoid by automated systems and easy to “perform” by humans.

    Just few weeks ago, one Toyota hilux has crashed head to head to Toyota yaris, surprisely that Toyota yaris has good protection overall.
    Two cars considered total loss by insurance company. Both drivers only are safe.
    It makes me surprised that i come to view this Toyota yaris crash test.
    Toyota yaris is a good car to consider..

      @@DashCamSerbia is the weight will be heavier if they test a larger car? Would be an absolute win if it was a 2.000kg SUV versus a 1.400kg small vehicle

      @@alifrachmanz As I understood, the weight is fixed 1.400 kg for all cars. That of course means that lighter cars will fair worse than heavier cars, but that is what happens in real accidents anyway.

      There are also sensors on the mobile barrier to test if the car tested is safe not just for the passengers, but also other cars as well. So heavier cars are also penalized.

      @@Vengir That is good. But can you tell my why 2020 Yaris is a 5 star car, when chest protection is rated as marginal and feet protection as weak? People will buy this "5 star" car thinking it is safe, not realising they could potentially get their feet amputated and their ribs broken and lungs punctured in a crash. This car should be 3 stars at best.

    I would like to see it in a small overlap crash. Result would be totally different. Euroncap test are easy, it doesnt mean nothing to have 5 stars, it doesnt mean that it is safe on a small overlap crash.

      @@DashCamSerbia I mean the front airbags do regularly kill people by neck fracture or skull fracture when the passenger is leaning close to the airbag on impact.
      So a damage to your arm, shoulder or torso isn't that unlikely I guess 🤔

    The barrier that hits the car weighs 1400 kg. What happens when a 1500 kg+ car/SUV is tested? That effectively reduces the difficulty of the test for heavier vehicles. Still no small overlap... Disappointing, seems like the tests have gone backwards in difficulty

    I know y there is a middle airbag its to keep the passengers from hitting each other yet I would not like to be a middle passenger in the back in a side impacts yet its cool

    Hey euro-NCAP, i think that the frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/ is a great idea!

    That 5 star rating system still makes no sense to me. I mean in a exam 86% would be quite bad. How do you still end up with the best result your test offers?

      This car should get 3-4 stars maximum. See the report in PDF. Marginal protection for the driver's chest and legs and weak for the feet.
      Stars mean nothing. Watch the video and study the report. Stars are for women and people who are clueless about car safety.

      @@mbiroli Most people don't know anything about cars or car safety, and they buy a 5 star car thinking it will protect them in a crash. They have no idea that they are risking their feet being potentially amputeted. It has nothing to do with comparison to the other cars.

Wait until October 21st to see how other cars will perform with this new assessment. I don’t think euroncap would have given a full rating to a dangerous car...
