      You just take your nails out from under the light and tap them until they stop hurting if necessary (take them out when it starts to heat, not when it starts to hurt), and then keep putting them back in and taking them out as many times as necessary. Usually only once or twice. The heating effect will go away after the initial flare up. This isn’t as big a deal with high-quality products.

    Exactly why I would stay away from gels or overlays. Had acrylics for 4 years ages ago. Thankfully got rid of them before any fungus set in or any big problems. I am thankful I have long strong natural nails. I don't need gel so I would never be one of those DIY people with gels. I DIY with lacquer. Preventing all the problems.

    • @mrskaa7584
      @mrskaa7584 4 месяца назад +12

      I have strong natural nails also. However, no natural nail is as strong as gel/acrylic. I grew tired of occasionally breaking just one nail and having to either repair it, put on a press on, or cut them all back so they would match. The hobbies and my life in general are very hard on nails. Nothing beats a gel overlay for damage prevention, in my experience.
      I've not had a single broken nail since learning how to do them. Properly applied gel/acrylic should *not* damage your nails. What damages them primarily is improper removal. I use rubber base and always leave a very thin layer on my nail plate. If I see a spot lifting or the occasional crack in the side wall, I will remove it in that area only for repair. Learning how to use an e file is crucial to doing gel manicures well, so I'm really glad I've taken the time to learn it. I love basically never worrying about breaking a nail, and although I missed being able to change my polish out as frequently, I have worked out a routine where I change the color weekly if I want to. I just use a carbide bit to remove all the color, smooth down the rubber base with a hand file, then a cuticle bit to make sure the nail folds are all cleaned up, then I apply my new color and sometimes nail art. Every other week, about every 14 days, I take most all of the product off as described above and reapply my rubber base. My manicures pretty easily last 3 weeks though, if I need them need them to. I love knowing that I am giving the very best care to my nails. I have never actually had someone else do a manicure on me, or even a pedicure. But I learned how to do both online.

    • @therealdeal3672
      @therealdeal3672 4 месяца назад +2

      @@mrskaa7584sounds like you have an excellent nail care routine for yourself. I'm allergic to rubber base. I have a latex allergy. And I'm very sensitive to different things and I'm under the understanding that gel can cause allergies or people can be allergic to gel. I've read that nurses can't use gel polish I guess because of potential direct patient contact. Anyway I've got to stay away from the rubber base. I can certainly understand that it's a pain when you have to grow a nail out. Since I've been growing mine and I haven't broken any yet but I know it's just a matter of time. I'm really careful and I put on thick polish though. Have changed a lot of the ways I approach things to protect my nails. I no longer use my nails as a tool. No doubt the results with gel polish are awesome. And cool that you know how to do it yourself. 💅
