I will never forget seeing and hearing Diana Soviero as Suor Angelica, now that was an operatic experience. I also head her as Leila in Pearl Fishers and she was wonderful in that as well, her Traviata was also very effective the acting was good and it was beautifully sang. I was not lucky enough to see her in a complete perfomance again, just the PEARL FISHERS, and Traviata at NYC OPERA , and Angelica at the MET ,but became forever an admirer. A great American singer/actress.
I remember well the first time I saw her in this in late 70's early 80's at NYCO. No one could have sang and acted any better! She was a good friend back then, I remember she gave me a flower after the performance and I still have it in scrap book! Today is her birthday, happy birthday Diana, with love, Billy
I had the honor of performing in the chorus at the Greater Miami Opera when she did Traviata. She was awesome! I got to spin her around while she was blind folded at the beginning of the opera...
Soviero was a wonderfully gifted Artist who deserved far more fame and recognition than she received but her work was outstanding and she was one of NYCO's brilliant stars. The Met might have given her a bit more attention and gratitude than focusing on some rather past it European Diva's but her performances were thrilling and her voice first rate !

A Violetta so engaging, so poignant, so heartbreaking, so complete. For once, you don't miss the damn E flat.

I pulled curtain for her first Traviata, here in Virginia. What an introduction to opera!
