His editor noticed that Toriyama loved art martial movies, especially Jacky Chan's. For this arc of the tournament, Toriyama was inspired a lot by Jacky Chan and all of his creative moves.

Of course easy access to clean water and food is where the line is, if you don't have that you wont be very happy regardless.
