När protestanter för Black lives matter över hela USA, 2020, protesterade mot mordet på George Floyd. (Han blev då knäad till döds av en vit polis.)
När dåvarande president D. Trump hetsat upp stämningen på ett obehagligt sätt och även beordrat tårgas mot demonstranterna och sedan går tvärs över gatan till kyrkan St Johns, håller upp en bibel för att få en bild. Han går sen därifrån.
Biskop Budde reagerar starkt på detta och såg till att få tala i så många mikrofoner som möjligt.
Hon sa att ”Den andliga mantel han gör anspråk på inte tillhör honom”. ”På inget sätt kunde jag låta en av våra kyrkor att bli använda på det här viset!”.

in the church and in our nation who were standing up for racial equity, and others in the church and the nation
who were outraged by what they saw. And I was trying to do my best
just to hold that moment without losing
sight of the larger struggle."
