I haven't been reading anything for so long now, I always come to your RUclips videos when I need to get excited about reading again. Thank you for that ♡
I’d recommend The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander if you want to know more specifically about police brutality and the disproportionate affects of incarceration on black and brown communities. It really goes into what systemic racism is and it’s so great for informing people without much background knowledge.
I would love to see super long booktalks posted on your second channel! I always enjoyed the more in depth book discussions and since it's not the main channel hopefully the algorithm wouldn't screw you over
Barnes and Nobles finally opened back up in my area and my best friend and I went in. It felt so amazing being back inside the book store. Smelled so nice. All those books. I didn't want to leave haha. I didn't buy anything since I am on a book buying ban this year, but I did take pictures and added a bunch of books to my Christmas wish list.
I'm glad to hear you've figured out a way to do the booktalks you love and also not crash your main channel's views! I know you were getting really frustrated with that.
I'm pretty sure a character in Ten Things I Hate About Pinky actually comes from Sandhya Menon's second book in that series/world, Theres Something About Sweetie. I could totally be wrong though. I think this is kind of like a Anna/Lola/Isla situation where you could read the others if you want all the depth but you can also totally do a standalone if thats your cup of tea! They're all so so good though!!
I can't tell you how nice it is to see people I did not expect publicly educating themselves and speaking up using their platform. So I just wanna say I appreciate you Christine and thank you for the awesome recommendations 💕
I love that you’re talking about BLM even though it’s not related to your channel, sm respect for you Christine 🖤🖤🖤 (also, yesss I’ve been waiting for the crescent city and imagine me booktalks :))))
You are an awesome person, Christine, with such a beautiful heart. You continue to inspire me with your energy, enthusiasm, and wisdom. Loving that one-shouldered sweater on you, btw. Gorgeous colour and style. Looking forward to booksplosion.
“I think the majority of us haven’t been to a book store in about 90 days.” Except when there are few bookstores in your area (state, or country) with books that you care about (on in the language you like to read). Those of us are pros at online shopping and sales (and being sad when books arrive damaged). (Singing) Haven’t been to a bookstore in about 200 days. Loved the video. Never disappointed by your content. You are a great person. Never change.
I have A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes but I haven't read it. Before I read the synopsis I had no idea it was about President Snow when he was younger and he actually participates in the Games. That is going to be interesting. I'm currently reading the Percy Jackson series after so long. I really wanna read Crescent City, Loveboat, and that one book about the fake boyfriend trope. That is one of my favorite tropes because it always turns into an actual romance. Quarantine is the perfect time for reading and I'm finally back to reading after so long. Its good to be back and get lost in the world of books. 😁
4:40 love you for this, educating ourselves is so important, school doesn't teach us so many important things and it's so sad, we have to educate ourselves to make sure our world changes. BLM ❤
Thank you for being such an idol Christine! I love your books hauls and your personality, but hearing you talk about BLM. Thank you for using your platform to spread awareness and for being such an inspiration! 💕
I’m so proud of you for talking on BLM and educating yourself and looking towards anti racism and how to properly address being called out - like wow. Yes. Thanks for that.
"We can't learn if we don't make mistakes." You are a gem, Christine ❤ The binary problem you mentioned took me a long time to understand; I learned about it from Brandon Sanderson's Writing Excuses podcast. Do you listen to writing podcasts?
Christine, you have always been my idol. I relate to you, and want to be an author as well and I am an introvert without many friends, but this video made my respect for you shoot through the roof. I have always respected you and looked up to you, but your comments on racism and the blm movement made me so proud to call you my idol
Loveboat, Taipei is so good! It actually explores heavier issues, so it's not all fun and games! But I loved the rep and could really relate to the MC!
I took a women of color class in college a year ago and I learned so much about what not only black people but many people of color in the USA go through. Two books I read in that class were When they call you a Terrorist: a Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse khan-cullors. And In the Country we Love by Dianne Guerrero. I learned a lot about how the police effects people of color, even from very early on. How they effect disabled people of color and about ICE too.
Christine, thank you so much for using your platform to advocate that we educate ourselves and actively read books to promote anti-racism. I also am reading many of the books you suggested and will be picking up the others!
Thank you for recommending White Fragility and White Rage. I listened to the audiobook for White Fragility in one sitting (horrible robotic narrator) yesterday, and I just started reading White Rage today. White Fragility was really eye opening. So many of the examples I saw in my own family. =( I wish I could convince some of them to be more open minded and read either of these books, but all I can do it try to educate myself more.
Thank you for using your platform to talk about the Black Lives Matter movement. Thank you for not staying silent and for amplifying the message of black and brown voices. When it comes to racial injustice & systemic racism, silence is not an option.
Thank you for mentioning BLM in a video. I've seen a lot of booktubers going on all their other platforms but dont bring it up on their biggest platform. Thank you for also recommending other people books they can read and other resources they can find. Because we are tired of telling other people to get educated when we know they dont care enough to get educated. And I'm also glad that u didnt use BLM as a click bate tool to get more views as well. I appreciate it.
I love that you’re using your platform to help raise awareness about systemic racism. (I’ll def be checking out those books!) And I love the diversity in the books you hauled. I think it’s awesome that the teens (and, hey, adults too) can look at the positive example you’re setting.
I just watched an interview of the woman who wrote White Fragility, and her self-awareness and willingness to be personally called out for internalised racism was so different to anything I’d ever seen. The way she put any shred of arrogance aside makes me want to read this book so much.
Hey christine I just wanted to ask if you were planning to review the final trials of apollo book, because I love you percy jackson and heroes of olympus book talks, but there is only one for the trials of apollo.
10 Things I Hate About Pinky is the third book in the When Dimple Met Rishi Universe. I'd recommend reading then in order, even if they are technically standalone. When Dimple Met Rishi, There's Something About Sweetie and then 10 Things I Hate About Pinky.
I'm upset because White Rage is over six months wait at my library, and I literally have noooo moneyyyy to buy it. I really want to though...I'll just have to wait six months I guess.
i think you perfectly articulated how we, as non-black people, should do our part for this movement! i’m not sure really how to explain what i mean, i just think you beautifully explained it
I’ve read Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. And I enjoyed it. It’s intresting to read about how the Hunger Games were in the past and to read sort of from a Capitol point of view.
When I watched this video from you Christine, I felt amazed already (as always), but I felt even more amazed when you brought up the BLM movement. As a black person watching your videos since like what 2012??!?! The first book tuber I've EVER watched that introduced me into the Shadow hunter world and I've LOVED it all since then. Thank you for this😊❤❤ #blacklivesmatter
So when you read in the shower...do you let the books just get in the water or turn off the water when you read?? Sorry I’m confused lol. Great video and discussion ❤️
CHRISTINE IM LITERALLY JUST HERE TO YELL AT YOU, YOU H A V E TO READ VICIOUS BY VE SCHWAB. YOU HAVE TO. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Very, very excited to hear another Booktalk is coming!!! I don't really like Sarah J Maas, but I may read Crescent City just so I can watch it 😍 also I so appreciate the efforts you and so many white booktubers are taking to educate themselves and promote the education of white people in race. Thank you, those books are definitely on my tbr list for the coming weeks ❤❤❤

I have gotten a couple books as well. Standing up against racism by talking to your white friends/individuals is the right move.
Barely anyone in the comments is even talking about those books she talked about with the racial injustices smh.
