I'm a total tree hugger, so I love that you use cotton paper for your finished work. I'm an aspiring watercolorist, and you are in my top 5 biggest inspirations of all time. Thank you.
I have a few of my dad's old Spectracolor pencils and I also read they were the brand that predates Prismacolor. I have also been really interested in checking out that dustfree eraser...may have to pick one up soon!
Jennifer Charlee do! It's such a life saver ~ and yes!! I am so glad you know what I'm talking about on the Spectracolors and I'm not just making this up 🤓
The perfect last 12 min of my treadmill walking 💁🏻 I loved seeing your art supplies. I'm currently feeling overwhelmed bc I have so many that I haven't even touched yet and at this point it's almost as if I've developed a fear of trying them 😶
pigknit I know what ya mean, that's why I've been trying to simplify things by sticking to watercolor... I did just get some canvases at a big sale, so maybe before the end of the year I'll get back into acrylics or oils? It's only been like 2 decades since I last touched those things 😋

Studio Jess I'm definitely intimidated by watercolor so at least you've got that down 👍🏻 p.s. I'm working with a client this week who is such a pain in the a$$ I can't even. I am essentially a drawing machine to him. Kill me now.
At first I thought oh holy hell well she has the holbein gouache but honestly, you have a nicely balanced inventory of things that are expensive for good reason and other things that are cheap because they don't have to be high end. Really liked this video Also wanted to add that my present self wishes my past self had rather invested some more money in my starting supplies (like my cheap watercolor palette and crappy pulp nightmare paper) because essentially that money was wasted. Quality definitely > quantity. I don't extremely regret the masters touch 48 ct watercolor set I got at hobby lobby for around 20 bucks too badly, I think it was what kicked off my watercolor obsession but I would prefer if I had just at least started with sakura or cotman but oh well. Also, had I known about jacksons before setting out for hobby lobby, I would have actually saved money. Paper the same.... if you see a $4 watercolor pad that's 17x11.... it's not good. Keep walking. Be smart. Buy at the very very least strathmore, better yet fluid 100 which I think isn't any more expensive and is 100% cotton. Be smart. Don't be like past me 😂 Don't be so fricken frugal it comes back to bite you and you end up spending more overall
Nicely made video. The "rubber tipped things" are color shapers, silicone ends usually used for shaping clay (e.g. Polymer), blending pastels (oil or soft), and in painting (e.g. Acrylic).
For masking fluid: try lathering a brush onto a bar of soap before using it for masking fluid! Once dry the masking fluid will just peel off the brush hairs :D No mess :)
Hi Jess, thanks for making such an informative film, I'm pleased the music worked well for you :) Just had a look at your website, a lovely collection of pieces on there, keep up the nice work, hope you're well
Axletree - Alexander Westmacott oh, hi Alexander, thanks for watching it! Your music is beautiful, so thank you for allowing us creators out there to use it :) I'll be sure to let you know when I use more 👌 all the best -J
Yay sakura gelly roll! Love that product. Oh that pocket brush looks so useful! I might have to give that a try especially when I go on my museum art days ^^ I enjoyed the way you presented this :)
Emma Thrussell hey Emma! Delayed response here, but thanks and you should definitely try the aquabrush if you can! It's pretty cheap and sometimes I just use it as my main bc it gives a really lovely effect 🤗
Thanks for providing a lot of useful information. Your videos are so professional too. Continues success - you deserve it cuz you can tell that you work so hard at your craft and it shows.
@@damaniyashita It's a different typ of proces to make paper than cold press. Hot press is smoother than cold press which is a bit more textured like the paper Jess is using here
Melissa Lethco awesome! You're going to have a wonderful time there, at least I did. It was basically heaven getting to go and buy a bunch of new art supplies for school every semester... or did they do trimesters? Anyway, good luck! 🤓
Thank you for sharing your art supplies! I enjoyed watching. Regarding stretching watercolor paper, have you tried the traditional way? It is the best by far. Have a board handy for mounting (like a piece of pressboard - can get at Home Depot cheaply) bigger than the paper size by a few inches all around. Wet both sides of paper well - you can use a sponge or dip it in water but it should be completely wet. Stick the paper to the board. Use gummed tape all around (wet lightly with sponge or ceramic tongue). Here is my affiliate link to some so you can see what I'm talking about. I usually use the thicker version to help avoid buckling while drying. amzn.to/2Hfm86B Let the paper dry completely before painting. It should not buckle at all while painting. Once dry you can it pull off the board, then trim down the sides. If you want a border, use another tape (like a light tack painter's tape) inside the gummed tape.
You're welcome! I'm rather lazy about it too but when I do it, I'm always pleased... I'm going to have to resolve to do more paper stretching in the future. :-) (I noticed I commented a year ago... RUclips is not tracking my watched videos for some reason, so I watched again but at least maybe it will help you.)
you just helped solve a mystery for me! I have had my Design Watercolor Pencils since 95 and i love them but have no idea who really made them or what their current equivalent would be. when i saw your comment on the colored pencils and the Design name on them i gasped! I have been trying to hunt this info down for about a month now on the daily, so i am pleased to have added the info from this video to my google searches and found this article and website: artpencilsrare.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/history-of-prismacolor-artist-grade-pencils/ Thank you!

Ella Mozzarella it depends on if it's organic or not
It depends on where and by whom it is cultivated.

Just use the molotow masking fluid pen and you will never ruin a brush again! 😊

You went to SCAD? So did I! :)
Also, I'm glad you showed that dust free eraser. I've been having trouble with mine. I'll have to try it out.
Kimberly Glover I did, in Savannah! I graduated 2006 though, a really long time ago :) i loved it
Studio Jess I loved it too! such a wonder city to be in for inspiration. I graduated in 2014. 😊
Thank you for sharing! I will go to the shop now 😊
Art Side of Life story of my life 🤗
Hi,
I just wanted to say that I recently found you channel and that you are very lovely. I find your videos inspirational and well-made :)
AdelaJ. Hello and thank you so much! I'm so happy to have you watching them 🤓 welcome!
I love watching these videos. It's fun.
jawara blake I guess it's what the people want ? 👀
I love your nail color!!!
Ooh, I do think you should try hot press! Is is soo nice :)
Julia H.B. Arts I definitely am going to! Should probably devise some sort of painting series for hot press... Hmmmm.... 🤔☺️
Whats that

I loved this video 😍
Ilaria Casson thank you so much! 🙌
I have the white gelly roll pen too, but prefer the one made by uniball pro!
I'm going to SCAD next semester and it made me choke on my water when you showed that eraser
Melissa Lethco awesome! You're going to have a wonderful time there, at least I did. It was basically heaven getting to go and buy a bunch of new art supplies for school every semester... or did they do trimesters? Anyway, good luck! 🤓
The rubber brush i think is for carpenter work.
Nana Tadokoro oh thanks! Someone also told me it was for sculpting clay 🤓
Studio Jess you are correct it is a clay shaper. Artis, however, use them in different ways. I personally use them for blending pastels.
thanks Brindha
great stuff!!!
Tutorial on gouache please? I always activate the underneath layer with a layer
Studio Jess what's the difference of guoache and regular watercolors???
By the way: I don't know whats guoache
Lance_The_Umbreon Vids gouache is thicker. can be mixed with water but heavier than watercolors.

Natalie Lopez IKR LMAO HSJDH
lets hear your voice so we can judge yours NATALIE
I can't listen to her voice
I'm late but same here
That's unnecessarily rude. Maybe don't click on her videos then?
It’s not that her voice is annoying, it’s just that she always slurs and says uhh blah blaaah um. But it’s not to bad in my opinion
It's the up-speak and vocal fry that's hard to listen to. But the content is fun watch. :)
it's schminken not schminkeeee
The piano in the background is stupid
Your username is stupid.
Taylor Begg that's true lmao xD
Milk Kartlyn I do believe it is a guitar and not a piano.
