Jeff Rolka is the Bob Ross of singing! Thank you so sincerely for all these videos. I do this one every morning, and I have for two and a half months. I appreciate this so much! 😄 I am looking forward to progressing, but when I move into the other mezzo warm up videos I sometimes get stain in my soft palate. How can I strengthen my soft palate so that I increase the flexibility of my voice and don’t hurt my voice trying to sing the beautiful melodies in my mind?
Thank you so much! I have to tell you, I really think about Bob Ross a lot and definitely had him in mind when I started doing these videos. I don't mention it much (really at all) but since you got it I figured I could mention it here. Interesting that your soft palate is getting a little strained/tense. You may be flexing some of the muscles there a bit too much. Next time you practice, see if you can sense any tension there. Sometimes snorting like a pig can help one identify the muscle groups. If you find that to be the case, see if you can allow it to release a bit. The 'ng' exercise can be very helpful at identifying and working with this as well and is featured in several of the videos. Best! Jeff
This has become my favorite warmup. I’m coming back from a cold and I am also returning to singing after a very lengthy absence. My lower passages is the biggest problem right now and this has helped!
Dear Jeff, I,ve been very sick with pneumonia and laryngitis and bronchitis and i,m trying to get my voice back again. I,m a second mezzo soprano high voice. I,m trying to get my voice back so I can sing with my worship team in church and my church choir for Easter Sunday/resurrection Sunday we sing with my choir and we our performing on Easter Sunday/resurrection Sunday. So I have to get my voice back. Because I do all the second mezzo soprano high notes. I love all your videos Thankyou for making them For us second mezzo Sopranos. Love and God bless you Susan morris from Boston Massachusetts
I hope you feel better soon Susan! Be sure to rest enough and don't rush into it! If you practice before you got sick was consistent you'll bounce back quickly. Jeff
I use your warm ups before all of my vocal lessons and I'm getting sick now and have a recital tonight and I'd just like to say THANK YOU for this content
Well, based on the play count I'd say not, but this video is just as relevant as when I did it initially and hopefully more folks who need something like this will find it! Enjoy!! Jeff
I’m new to singing and this was first ever warm up. I will definitely be using this again! The visual cues of the piano keys going were also very helpful. Thank you ☺️
Thankyou Jeff my worship team leader won't allow me to sing until i,m fully better and sing without getting out of breath. So he said to take a break from singing. For a little while
This is so helpful. Thank you! I have a lot of congestion in the morning and it takes a while to really get my voice working so this was exactly what I was looking for!
I was once a sopranoe but now I’m a Mezzo Sopranoe so I want to learn more about it and what’s the difference comment down below if you guys know anything about it 💜
Be gentle with your new instrument, get to explore it's capabilities. And don't let anyone tell you that you've been demoted because you're not a soprano anymore. And enjoy exploring new repertoire. 😊
Dear Jeff, I did practice a lot before I got sick so I think that I will be able to go back to church but I'm not pushing myself at all. Thankyou very much for your wonderful words of encouragement. From one singer to another keep the videos on I love them they are very helpful to me Love and God bless you Susan morris from Boston Massachusetts
Thank you for creating this Jeff.. As soon as I get a sinus infection I whack this out. Steam out the gunk and give this a gentle breezing over... The placement is PERFECT. 😊
Acid reflux has severely ruined my voice but has improved a little through youtube vocalizing. Right now having problems transitioning from chest voice to head voice. That gap there sounds like a frog. Literally. I will continue vocalizing to see how far i can go. Frustrated. Thank you for your classes.
Love your videos Jeff and they have been transforming my voice definitely! Would you please consider do a voice warm up using a guitar? Thank you for all! ♥️
Dear Jeff, I,m feeling much better now. But I'm afraid of testing my voice what if I lose it again. How do I test it without straining it. Love and God bless you Susan morris from Boston Massachusetts
That's hard. I'm sorry you had that infection and have had to deal with in your physical being and now in your singing person as well. I see that you left this comment on the gentle warm up, you're in the right place. Think limited range, short, short practice sessions but multiple times per day if possible. When I have been really sick I at times have limited to myself to an overall range of just a perfect fifth. Placed in the most comfortable area I can discern. I might only do a single scale or two before resting, then coming back to do that scale again several minutes later. Be patient, be gentle, and take your time. Being a musician is an ultra marathon. If it takes six months, you'll still have gotten there in the end. Best, Jeff
Hi, this warm up is great but earlier I tried doing some excercises like for agility or vocal range extension and I damaged my voice cause I was doing them wrong.. so I'm afraid that I'll do the same thing if I do this warm up.. can that happen ?
Am I a soprano if I can’t reach the low notes you were playing? I feel like I am not on the right video even though I always felt comfortable singing in a mezzo high range 😅
Not necessarily. In order to determine your fach (vocal range ie., soprano, mezzo, etc.) you have to work out the locations of your registration events. This includes vowel alignment and appoggio practice so that you're getting the most efficient balanced usage of your voice. Vocal fach is not based solely on what notes one can sing. Best! Jeff
just realized i've been doing alto warm ups this whole time when im a mezzo soprano.. i guess i can also just go somewhat into alto range but time to switch over to these warmups😭😂😂
I was wondering...if for labyrintitis can I use this gentle warm up...maybe it helps for the air going around my resonators and helps my body balance to come back...:-8
@@JeffRolka thanks ....I have tried with your gentile singing warm up and I think It worked well, using my voice gently. I like to so singing as a hobby but I’ve never done a vocal warm up before, I just woke up and this was pretty simple and calming 👍 thank you
I've never experienced a warm up that sounds so nice but feels so relaxed. Thank you so much :)
Been using your warm up while doing a cabaret series in Philadelphia. You are grand and thank you so much for taking the time and teaching these.

It doesn't have much to do with range, it actually has more to do where the singer's voice resonates, a soprano has a brighter tone than mezzo's.
This happened to me too. It happens to a lot of people as the voice matures, it's to with resonance and vocal timbre.
😂😍
Be gentle with your new instrument, get to explore it's capabilities.
