I think your last point is dead on. The rock has notoriously little bad press about him anywhere. He may be one of the most well-liked celebrities on the planet. I honestly haven't seen anyone since Will Smith successfully do that. I don't think he would want to risk potential problems, or potential sabotage to his public image.

Vin Diesel has been an executive producer of the franchise since Fast4 (which is something I never really liked because it meant that Paul Walker's character lost some spotlight in the story) but I don't think he's the kind of executive producer with all the power behind it, perhaps Vin is been pushed by other executives who actually realise that the success of this franchise doesn't rely only on one actor, some executives may realise that Dwayne's presence actually makes theaters to be full of people who pay the tickets, and Vin must put his ego aside and realise that too
In my opinion VD should have directed this message himself to DJ privately and as practical and realist as he is, DJ should've been offered options not just a role but a major part if he was to come back in the finale. But if this comes to be the greatest setup for the last entry then hats off to them if they pull it together.
I like John's tin foil hat theory. I'm not saying I believe it, just that I like it. I'd like for it to be true. But assuming it's not, and that Dwayne is really as done as he says, Vin's move feels a little manipulative. I think that 10 will be split into a Part 1 and 2. So there won't be a 11 per se, it will be a Part 2 and I think that's where the confusion came from.

Vin Diesel basically begging The Rock to come back after he has said (and I’m paraphrasing) “I’d rather not” when it came to Fast 10 makes me think one of three things.
1) Vin Diesel wants Dwayne Johnson back because they have this absolutely massive idea and storyline that could draw massive attention to a franchise that has been struggling recently to get good reviews for the film it is making and not the money it’s making
2) Vin Diesel wants Dwayne Johnson back because he realises that the current Fast 10 plan isn’t worthy of it being Fast 10 and he wants The Rock back to at least make the film feel worthy of being Fast 10
3) Vin Diesel wants Dway- alright you get the point. He wants him because Universal know the film will underperform after the critic panning on Fast 9 and they want Dwayne back to help make more money.
Do I think it will happen? No. I think The Fast franchise needs Dwayne Johnson a lot more hem Dwayne Johnson needs the Fast franchise. There was a point where that was the other way around. Now here in 2021 going into 2022 The Rock doesn’t need it anymore. He has Black Adam coming up and if that goes well then that could be a franchise, Jungle Cruise is getting a sequel, he is relaunching the XFL in 2023. He is potentially wrestling Roman Reigns at WrestleMaina 39 in 2023 (if rumours are to be believed). I wouldn’t be shocked if he finds his way in the MCU because if Harry Styles can do it then so can Dwayne. Plus the feud between Diesel and The Rock is to big and The Rock has a VERY strong public image and a strong focus when it comes to his “brand” and how he wants to present himself to the public. Another big time argument between the two on set for Fast 10 puts a little dent in the Dwayne Johnson marketing armour and I don’t think he wants to risk that especially as he is trying to distance himself from this situation all together
well it can change. Reviews for Red Notice are not very good. Maby few flops and Rock won't be so sure about this. Anyway they should ended franchise many years ago. Maybe do spin offs more. But now it is not even Santa Barbara...
@@engi4488 yes but then he can just go back to Jumangie which has been working well for him or (if it goes well) he can lean more towards Black Adam and getting the sequels and spin-offs with that character (unless he doesn’t want to play a character who has to be built like that going into his late 50’s). Either way, I think he will be fine but if all his upcoming films flop then I do think that’s going to damage him. Not a massive amount but enough for plans to change.
I think your last point is dead on. The rock has notoriously little bad press about him anywhere. He may be one of the most well-liked celebrities on the planet. I honestly haven't seen anyone since Will Smith successfully do that. I don't think he would want to risk potential problems, or potential sabotage to his public image.
Critic reviews for F9 were weaker than recent entries but it wasn't a panning.
The F&F franchise definately doesn't care about reviews lol, they're clearly made as dumb fun movies.
What if... Dwayne had actually agreed to do it and when Vin caught wind of it, he quickly put out the message to make it seem like he was responsible for Dwayne coming back.
Vin Diesel has been an executive producer of the franchise since Fast4 (which is something I never really liked because it meant that Paul Walker's character lost some spotlight in the story) but I don't think he's the kind of executive producer with all the power behind it, perhaps Vin is been pushed by other executives who actually realise that the success of this franchise doesn't rely only on one actor, some executives may realise that Dwayne's presence actually makes theaters to be full of people who pay the tickets, and Vin must put his ego aside and realise that too

In my opinion VD should have directed this message himself to DJ privately and as practical and realist as he is, DJ should've been offered options not just a role but a major part if he was to come back in the finale. But if this comes to be the greatest setup for the last entry then hats off to them if they pull it together.

I like John's tin foil hat theory. I'm not saying I believe it, just that I like it. I'd like for it to be true.
But assuming it's not, and that Dwayne is really as done as he says, Vin's move feels a little manipulative. And here's the thing: even if it's done from a place of genuine feeling (and I agree with John that both can be true simultaneously), Fast 10 does not NEED Dwayne (nor does Dwayne need Fast 10). Sure, Dwayne is a huge character, and normally I do think it would make sense to say the final movie needs everyone. But Paul is already missing this movie. No one can do anything about that. You may say its different due to the circumstances, but no, within the narrative world of Fast & Furious, it's no different. Because Bryan isn't dead in the movies. He's merely out of the picture. So if HE can be alive but not participating in the big finale, so can Hobbs.

I think it's a little of both. Vinn wants to pressure the Rock to come back, but I also think he legit does want him to come back though.
I think that 10 will be split into a Part 1 and 2. So there won't be a 11 per se, it will be a Part 2 and I think that's where the confusion came from.

I loved the rock in the fast series but I agree I think vins statement is more of a money grab after the performance of fast 9, most people I know really didn’t like fast 9 including myself, had vin of came out with this statement before or during the production of F9 I think it would have seemed a lot more Genuine.
