Never play dead for a black bear attack. If they're angry when they see you, it could be not be an attack but an emotional surprise. If they approach silently in stealth mode like in this video with their ears pointing up they aren't being yogi bear friendly. It's stalking and a potential sign they see you as food and result in an attack. Imagine if this was at picth black midnight. This video is quite interesting, perhaps the bear was already full or testing the waters for another occasion.

You COULD carry a sawed off shotgun with slugs (which ARE legal in Canada). I't get a double barrel in that setup.
The only bears 🐻 we have here in Australia are in the zoo, but we have some very poisonous snakes that kill.
