Ty, I have a senior jack-chi going on 16. He's starting to get stiff and I wanna make sure I'm not hurting him. I love my dog so much, I just wanna take all the discomfort away. He gets many petting sessions and time on a heating pad. 🥺

It actually worked my chi had a bone and was growling. But the min I rubbed him he dropped it and actually leaned into my message closing his eyes. And it kind of helped with the food aggression

That's wonderful to hear! It sounds like the massage technique had a calming effect on your Chihuahua, which is fantastic. Massaging dogs can indeed help reduce tension and anxiety, which may contribute to behaviors like food aggression.
When you gently massage your dog, it can stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers and stress relievers. This can help your dog feel relaxed and less likely to exhibit aggressive behaviors. Additionally, massage can improve circulation and promote a sense of well-being, which can further contribute to a calmer demeanor.
To continue helping with food aggression, you might want to consider the following tips:
Consistency: Keep massaging your dog regularly, especially before feeding times. This can help him associate mealtime with relaxation and positive experiences.
Positive Reinforcement: Reward your dog with treats and praise when he exhibits calm behavior around food. This can help reinforce the idea that good things happen when he remains calm.
Controlled Feeding: Feed your dog in a calm and quiet environment. Avoid distractions and ensure he feels safe and secure during mealtimes.
Gradual Desensitization: Gradually get your dog used to your presence around his food. Start by being nearby while he eats and slowly work up to being able to touch or handle his food bowl without him reacting aggressively.
Professional Guidance: If food aggression continues to be a problem, consider seeking the help of a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. They can provide personalized guidance and training techniques to address the issue.
It's great that you've found a technique that works for your dog. Keep up the good work, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance!

Massage for dogs and cats replicates rough play, which replaces the mother's instinctive holistic administrations. At birth and as a kitten mother is constantly grooming, including the claws. This experience is a life lesson for good health and survival. Nerves are always thickening and will harden with age. Kneading, pinching, and smoothing out bumps and releasing knots in the fur and skin, breaks up these forming nerve bundles, and prevents auto-immune ailments, hearing loss, sight problems, etc. the cause of which is poor circulation. Lone pets in a home require more attention, because of this reason. As the experience is repeated, the masseuse becomes more proficient, and pet and person enjoy it more and more. Basilone did not always seem comfortable with celebrity, darn paparazzi!
