- Arthritis is common in dogs and it can have a huge impact on their quality of life. We see many Staffy’s at the centre suffering from this condition. Nugget is a senior Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has multi-joint arthritis. His owners were looking for more ways to support him so they reached out to me for help in his management. Nugget has responded really well to a multimodal approach consisting of manual therapy, dry needling and exercise therapy. This video gives you an inside into his assessment, treatment and home exercise plan. Maintenance of strength is a huge part of keeping senior dogs mobile and happy whilst living with osteoarthritis. Engaging in specific exercises that are appropriate for your dog will give them the best chance to live a long happy life despite their arthritis. Yes!!!!
Based on the transcript, the speaker, who is a veterinary professional, performs several treatments and assessments on Nugget, a dog suffering from severe multi-joint arthritis. Here's a breakdown of what she does:
1. **Assessment:** She starts by assessing Nugget's whole body. This includes a neurological exam to check his reflexes, assessing the range of motion in all the joints of his hind limbs, and evaluating his muscle mass and tone.
2. **Palpation:** She palpates Nugget's spinal muscles to check for soreness. In the video, she notes that the spinal muscles are twitching a lot when she palpates them, indicating soreness.
3. **Massage:** She massages different parts of Nugget's body. This includes the tricep muscle group, the front of the chest to release the pectoral muscles, and up the scapula to the tips of the shoulder blades. She also massages the large muscle groups in the hind limbs, starting with the teals and lumbar epaxials, then working on the hamstrings, back to the gluteals, and finally releasing the quads and hip flexors.
4. **Spinal Adjustments:** She performs spinal adjustments in Nugget's thoracic spine to help maintain flexibility. This is done to help manage Nugget's arthritis and allow him more freedom of movement throughout his whole body.
5. **Lumbar Spine Release:** She focuses on the lumbar spine release to help Nugget during position changes such as sitting and getting up from lying down.
6. **Dorsal, Ventral, and Rotation Mobilizations:** She performs a variety of these mobilizations which have been really important in managing Nugget's arthritis.
7. **Home Exercise Program:** Although this is not something she does to Nugget directly, she guides Nugget's owners in implementing a home exercise program. This program includes raised poles for maintaining range of motion, lateral work for shoulder strength, weight transfers, and flexibility through the ribcage and thoracic spine.
Thanks so much for this, exactly what Ive been after. ❤
Good to see some in-depth content. Well done
Thanks for the support, we hope these videos help owners to understand how to spot and deal with their dogs pain
I’m in this situation for the first time. And it has really saddened me for her quality of life. I’m going to try and do the messages more and work on range of motion. I’m looking for a physical therapist for her. Thank you so much for giving me some education and hope. I feel like I’ve been really lost about what to do.

thanks for the video! After discovering drops with nutrients, Lola is back to being like a puppy. She is full of life and so happy. We are only a few weeks using these nutrients and I really believe it is the best thing I have ever done for her. I left a video on my channel talking about the product I am using on my puppy.
A good joint supplement can definitely help dogs feel better and we often hear things like 'they're acting like puppies again'

Since I've been feeding farmina and ziwipeak both chicken my dog has not been holding up his weak leg as much. Before he was holding his weak leg up like 85% of the time.....now it's dramatically reduced to 50% of the time. I hope he keeps improving w/ this new food.
Wow thats a great improvement!! a good diet certainly does help. Good luck for the rest of your journey

My Yorkie did have difficulty in walking awhile ago because of arthritis. My Vet start him on Adequan injections. In a week he was back to walking normally.
I keep up with the now once a month injection.
He's back to his old self again.
Living in a humid area i was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, too.
Starting on Adequan and my pain is fading away. Zero side effects.
I would expect that diet would be included in this "multimodal" approach. Is Nugget eating a healthy diet or is he getting a highly processed inflammatory doggie junk-food regimen? This is a crucial factor.

What do you think about Pawfy pain relief for dogs with arthritis? I was thinking about getting it.
Hello, we are not familiar with this product. Each county has their own brands so here in Australia we recommend 4cyte for dogs & antinol. Your vet is a good person to ask- they usually like products that are manufactured well & have some science behind them 🙌🏼
My pitbull is also suffer from back leg problem from last few days he's 7 to 8 year old
We are sorry to hear about your Pitty!
Great video > but could you please turn the music down/remove it? 🙏
diluted DMSO can help with pain
👍👏🙏

Why was his back sore?
Hi there, when dogs have sore joints, they change the way they walk to minimise pain. This change in gait has put pressure on Nuggets back and causing him pain
Have you used deer antler velvet?
Hi there, we haven't used it personally but we hear it can be good for old doggies
Its common because of oxidative stress. Good work. He looks old
I learned that collars are very bad for hips and arthritis issues misalignment !!!!!! Stem cells and Prolozone works miracles also laser work our 21 year old dog is doing so well now , ( weight ) he looks overweight
Time for a new doggo

Listen. There’s a new medication for dogs arthritis that’s a miracle. My 15 year old is running again. It’s called something like Liberal or something close to that
LIBRELA is no miracle.
It literally did nothing to improve my 9.5 year old Aussie's limp.
Careful in calling this drug a "miracle". While it's been used in Europe and Australia for some time, the U.S. holds different standards for proving long-term efficacy so we have very little data to go on as U.S. consumers. It's *very* new in the U.S. and with very little, if any, case studies to provide evidence of efficacy one's left to weigh the possible side effects (numerous and extremely concerning for specific breeds) against the LITERAL *word of mouth* endorsements of vets and (shocker!) pharmaceutical reps., etc.
ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE: this "miracle" drug can take anywhere from 1-4, monthly shots before any change is visible. The shots are (in Texas) $85 a pop AND you'll need to CONTINUE with whatever supplements and pain management your dog is on, for the duration of their life.
HARDLY a miracle.
