Did you know? The lead composer for sonic mania is Tee Lopes, the guy who made sonic 2 Hd, so basically if they had sonic 2 levels, it would be sonic 2 hd music, emerald hill for an example: they could’ve used sonic 2 hd’s music for emerald hill zone in sonic mania, they had that chance.

The master system sonic games already have been remade in Sonic Mania's engine, although the better remakes are called the Sonic SMS Remake and the Sonic 2 SMS Remake, which mostly have the same graphics, but in wide-screen and updated in small ways like way more animation frames, and they have extra characters, Tails, Knuckles, Ray, Mighty, Amy, the Chaotix team, robot Sonic, and more. And there's versions for both android and PC, and also apparently a Sony Vita port. The android versions are great if you have a tablet or chromebook (something with a big screen), and some kind of Bluetooth controller (like an xbox one controller even), although there are touchscreen controls if you want. And anyway the master system games are the same as the game gear games, just with a much bigger resolution. I mean hell, even if you only know the game gear versions, then the master system ones are a HUGE jump in quality because they're basically like the wide-screen mobile ports of the genesis games, except even more so, the jump in resolution is much bigger than the jump from the genesis to modern 16:9 resolution like on smartphones. So you should really really try the master system versions. They're great. But if you have a PC or any android device or a Sony Vita, then you must play the Sonic SMS remakes. Plus, there's even fan games, that use the engine that was developed for the SMS remakes. Like there's master system remakes of the genesis games Sonic 1 and 2, so the same level art and layout, but 8-bit master system versions. Like you know the handheld Sonic game that came out in 1999 for the Neo Geo Pocket Colour? That's been remade using this engine. That's actually a fantastic game anyway, the original version too, it's one of the very best sonic handheld games in history. And there's wholly original games using the engine, like one called Sonic Moon
I definitely like this. But this just further solidifies to me no one is ever going to program new enemies instead of just replacing sprites. And no one is ever going to implement a new boss
If fans can do this, why can’t Sega? I know it would ruffle feathers but I’d love the option in Origins for a Mania treatment of each game. You could play the originals also, but just having the option.
Don't make a redundant claim about why the Sonic franchise is dying without new 2D Sonic games. I like the 2D games but honestly, let them do what they want with the franchise. It's like asking them to give Sonic a gun.

I really like how this mod takes a lot of queues from Sonic 2 HD with the backgrounds, Emerald Hill trees swaying in the wind, etc.

if you put random speed by pressing the extra button and setting it to 0.95 you can hear the normal music speed in the title screen
