Any time you see someone walking around eating a bag of lettuce they are either on drugs/alcohol and super dehydrated or have an eating disorder. Yeah, she used the word “black” frequently to reference her mood And depression and mental and emotional pain. I guess for her going to “black” was a place within herself. This is about heartbreak. He goes back to her (the other woman) and so she goes back to black, as in back to the depression and misery and her old ways. In real life she struggled with severe depression alcoholism and addiction and ultimately she lost her life to the battle at age 27. There’s an interview where she admits that she is self destructive by nature and it will probably be her demise. I actually cried when I saw on the news the day they found she had passed away, maybe bc of the pain I know that must’ve been in & she talked Of in interviews as well as her songs and you can hear it in her voice and songs & the fact she died so young like many other icons just hit me hard. Maybe bc I could relate to some of the things she dealt with too. She was so beautiful and unique. An amazing talent style & voice that still gives you chills when you listen to her music. Black represents her depression. When her boyfriend went back to his ex she went back to black(depression, drugs, alcoholism). The funeral is her own. Apparently filming this brought out her anxiety on set because she knew she was self destructive and this could and did become her final outcome.
@@johnnosiennek7066 True, she wouldn't have been the same if she cleaned up, she would have been even better. Steven King became an even better writer when he went clean. Sobriety doesn't squash our creativity at all. Clarity enhances our abilities.
The relationship she had with her father was why she kept looking for love in others. Fathers, love your children so they don’t become broken adults. Her story is such a tragedy for such an awesomely talented woman.
She was good friends with Nas. He made a song called Cherry Wine featuring her. It was released after she died. It's funny how British singers usually have a more soulful sound than American blue-eyed soul. Amy's voice was incredibly rich, with so much depth. So much soul.

It's actually the funeral of her heart, because it was broken.. That's what is in the box that they are burying, Apparently the box had a name tag saying ' R.I.P Amy's Heart ' but they edited it out of the video because it was 'too dark'. Xx
She wrote this song because a dude told her he was leaving his wife/girlfriend for her, but then he went back to his wife. And she's alone again and depressed. Funeral was for thier relationship/love. Notice the grave was small, like a heart in a box.
WOMEN ON WEDNESDAY!!❤️ Love that! And what a great song to react to! Amy has such a strong voice. By the way I think back to black is in response to her man leaving for another woman. And she felt like she died. Keep on with these great songs!🌟
I am glad you got to experience this song. This is one of the most honest lyrical masterpieces of all times. She is telling us about mourning the loss of her one true love, who left her to get back together with his ex. She is telling us that she is emotionally trapped in the past, and their mutual drug addictions have kept them from maturing. You really need to see the full lyrics! She uses many references and slang terms from drug culture.
Re-hearing songs while watching you experience them for the first time is pure pleasure. Your reactions are so real and endearing. Thanks for this video. Amy Winehouse wrote this song and her voice transforms it. Imagine how many great songs like this we have lost, but for her addiction taking her out. A lifetime of song-writing and great performances. She started as a jazz singer, shifted to R&B pop, but who knows what genres she would have mastered. Whitney and Amy, two great musicians, and one in a million voices silenced by addiction.
Great documentary. I watched it on a plane, and was in tears for a good portion of it. It really shows how talented she was - you keep willing her to make better choices, but already know how it ends :(
She gives a little nod to The Ronettes song “Be My Baby” at the end. Her look is similar to Ronnie Spector.....fantastic girl group! You should react to Be My Baby!
Ohhh Amy was amazing! There's SOOOOOOO many outstanding songs of hers that aren't hits. Those to me are the absolute best! All of the songs she wrote were about her personal experiences. You have to listen to Beat the Point...make a video of your first reaction to that one! It's amazing! Rest Easy, Amy. The world misses you so
Young man love your channel! She named the tile Back to Black because she was heavy on BLACK/Smack. As you can see she had fallouts and went back to it each time. So with you saying “ this feels like a funeral”, well it was hers actually 😭
The movie documentary they did on her life is quite tragic. She just wanted to sing small venues. The machine they made of her talent just helped destroy her
"back to black" means she sinks back into the depths of her depression and self-harm with drug use if he goes back to the other woman. She says "we only said goodbye with words, I died a hundred times"...meaning they broke it off but it never really ended for her because she loves him still and it killed her soul to see him with another woman.
the first “yuh” when she started singing took me out 😭😭 this was such a perfect reaction, i wish she could’ve seen more love and support like this when she was still with us
She wasn’t doing drugs at the time of the album it was done in 2006 she didn’t start doin drugs til 2007 it weren’t about drugs wen she wrote it it was about drinking and doing dangerous things she never did drugs in 2006 except smoke a bit of weed Blake got her on to harder shit in 2007 wen they got married

Hey, have you thought about going to school to be a producer, sound engineer? I think you'd be great. I used to work for RCA Records and managed a recording studio in NYC. Your love for music is what is required. Check out schools for Audio Engineering. You got it bro.
You have educated yourself by listening to every type of music, most young people aren’t mature enough to do that, especially not publicly. I love that you only care about what you get from the music, rather than worrying about what other people think.
The Cranberries Zombie is a must defo. I get chills listening to that everytime. Apparently its written about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland in the 80's I think and about the pointless waste of life 😔

Oh, man, Patti!! These guys need some Patti in their lives. I agree about "Gloria" even though "Because the Night" is super-accessible. My own personal favorite, from her early work, is "Ain't It Strange," but I don't know that I'd tell anyone to start with Radio Ethiopia.

So I was in this record store (remember those?) and they were playing this background music. And most of the time I don't listen to it, but this voice captivated me, enthralled me, enraptured me.... So I went up to the front and asked who was playing. Amy Winehouse was the name and the only CD they had left was the one playing. "Give it to a brother," without skipping a beat! I must have listened to that joint over and over and over again. And then I decided I best go home before the fam started to wonder where ol' boy was at.... That was only the second time in my 62 years where I have bought music off the fly like that -- RIP AMY! You were the Truth, child!
She had the ability to speak truth and put words to emotions. Like too many others, taken too soon. RIP. Out of curiosity, who was the other record/artist?
@@DD-bj5yp What a great follow-up question! You do know you killed my last remaining brain cell trying to recall this! But for real, for real, the other album that I bought just because of the vibe it was giving out was the CD by Eminem that had the cut, "The Monster" on it. Now I'm 64, ya feel me? Yes, I knew who M is and had first heard his music back in like 1999/2000, but blew him off as not relevant for me. WRONG! I can now appreciate that M is the GOAT, if for no other reason than The Monster which really spoke to me. So I have my grandchildren tripping when they come through the door and hear me listening to the lastest banger from him, Billy Eilish! Or maybe SnoThaProject! So the dark side of Amy Winehouse still really touches me!
CreamintheCoffee Sorry. But at least you know someone actually cares about how awesome the experience was to you. 😀. Amy was magic sand to me and I remember how and where I was the first time I heard the album. Crazy how powerful music. And I’m an old head too, hehe. Good stuff is good stuff.

I had not listened to Amy until after she was gone at the tender age of 27 - she was very talented - Vices they sneak up on u and u b gone - ain't worth it -
Every time I hear the powerful and moving voice of Amy Winehouse, I am overcome with the sadness of the life she seemed unable to save. Many others have done the same thing but the reason Amy is different for me is because you could almost write her ending long before it happened so we watched helplessly as it played out in agonizingly slow motion through her songs with all the pain so raw and apparent until it all ended just the way we knew it would.
You should really watch the documentary “Amy” to appreciate her genius, artistry, and tragic life. Amy is truly timeless and we were robbed of such a beautiful, tortured, and talented souls. RIP Amy
My sons almost a teen now, but when he was a baby he saw her sing for the first time on tv. He was enchanted the whole time. It was “I’m No Good” he didn’t talk at the time but he actually clapped and said “yay! Good job! Thank you!”
I love Amy! She had such an amazingly, smooth and jazzy style. Sadly she died a few years ago. She suffered from addiction and alcoholism which she was using to try and mask her depression. Such a talent gone too soon. I hope you react to more of her, her songs are great! Actually you should also check out the documentary about her life, can't remember what it was called but it was so good. She was such a talented but tortured soul, in the short time that she was with us though she definitely changed people's lives through her wonderful music. RIP Amy Whinehouse 💙
Amy was simply amazing, would have loved to hear her mature over the decades, but sadly not meant to be. Mad props for recognising this song was going to be 'savage' as early as you did!
I love the reactions you two have to hearing musicians for the first time. I grew up listening to my parents country & western music, and my Motown, blues, and rock. What kind of music was played in your home when you were growing up. Not what music you were in to, but others in your home.
Amy sang so soulfully. She really put all her heart and soul in her songs. I certainly miss her. We never got to really have all of her music. There was so much more she was meant to sing. But she's in heaven now singing with the angels. Thanks for choosing Amy!!!

There is a fabulous documentary about Amy that really shows how and why she wrote those lyrics
"Amy," on Netflix.
Also black can be a reference to Heroin
agree, Amy is a must watch. She left us too soon but her music lives on forever. A one in a lifetime talent.
Excellent choice! A deep soul that there Amy. RIP
I agree! Reaction to Be My Baby would be awesome!
Agree!!! The Ronettes are so special ❤
I am named after them
Ronnette Pellegrin Your parents have good taste!✌🏻👌🏻😊
Breaks my heart, the talent wasted. She was amazing. Listen to Joplin, same thing.
Its a sad song. She was so damn talented and that voice omg it is from another era. Gone too soon :-(. RIP Amy.
Listen to Sade’s Smooth operator, she’s really good.
YES!!!! PLEASE
Also - No Ordinary Love and By Your Side
Omg Yes! Smooth operator will hit hard. Love that song
SADE - YES!!!
YEEEES!!! OMG. Yes!
Cherish!! Please
You should listen to:
Etta James - At Last
Janis Joplin: Cry Baby and Me and Bobby McGee
Amy Winehouse: I'm No Good
Bobby McGee, I think you mean
@@dmann1115 It's *Me and Bobby McGee*. I've been a huge Janis Joplin fan my whole life. I'm 56.
Roberta flack
Dina Washington, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: ruclips.net/video/vQkIBxnv-gw/видео.html
i'd just like to add Janis Joplin - Move Over
Amy’s voice speaks to your soul. I cry when I hear this song.
The movie documentary they did on her life is quite tragic. She just wanted to sing small venues. The machine they made of her talent just helped destroy her
Her dad was a pos also
That documentary made me so so angry. Too many rode on the gravy train and failed her
I agree 100%
@@tjmjazz8002 Her father was the machine that manipulated her for his own gain! he was a GIANT PIECE OF SHIT!!
Amy Winehouse was a one of a kind. Epic!!
"back to black" means she sinks back into the depths of her depression and self-harm with drug use if he goes back to the other woman. She says "we only said goodbye with words, I died a hundred times"...meaning they broke it off but it never really ended for her because she loves him still and it killed her soul to see him with another woman.
Check out Amy Winehouse’s cover of “Valerie”
The live version where she's at a radio station (?)
One of my favorites!
Nah, check out the original Valerie and check out Rehab by Amy
@@IndieRockerHippy I love all her songs! Super artist!, talent! Very sad that the world lost such a gifted person!
She isn't in the "music video" as she didn't show up for mark 😂 xx party girl
the first “yuh” when she started singing took me out 😭😭 this was such a perfect reaction, i wish she could’ve seen more love and support like this when she was still with us
Back to black means her dark depression. She would go on self-destructive drug/booze binges, when she suffered loss.
@@wickedfuckingwinehousebitchxox - thats pretty acurate Wicked, for those that don't know - the lose is still real for me - glad you liked it twins :-)
“Nothing compares 2 you” by Sinead O’Connor would be a great Women on Wednesdays.
Yes! That's the song Prince wrote for her ❤
@@jenwendy7 Yes, that is a Prince song, it was *not* written for Sinead though. She simply recorded it years after it was written and already recorded. He never specified who his songs were written about, but it is largely assumed to be written for a former live in lover.
"Nothing Compares 2 U" is by Prince, not Sinead
Any song by Sinead O'Connor would be great!
Tiger Bomb! Sinead sang the song.
Hey, have you thought about going to school to be a producer, sound engineer? I think you'd be great. I used to work for RCA Records and managed a recording studio in NYC. Your love for music is what is required. Check out schools for Audio Engineering. You got it bro.
I agree. You got what it takes. You feel the music, hear the instruments, respond to the emotions of the music in a way most others don't.
liz montgomery Love your encouragement and guidance 😊...And I agree
You have educated yourself by listening to every type of music, most young people aren’t mature enough to do that, especially not publicly. I love that you only care about what you get from the music, rather than worrying about what other people think.
Yay! Jam Gotta encourage born talent when you see it! ❤️👏🏼
Sarah Palmer I agree, by listening to every genre and really vibing with it, you know he has what it takes.
Some other powerful women singer’s....Adele, Lana Del Ray, The Cranberries “Zombie” is a must!
When we were Young by Adele kills me.
The Cranberries Zombie is a must defo. I get chills listening to that everytime. Apparently its written about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland in the 80's I think and about the pointless waste of life 😔
The Cranberries - Zombie was the first song I thought of for a review after seeing some of the others.
and sinead o connor - nothing compares 2 U
Omg! I CRIED when Dolores O’Reardon died!!!!!!
If you want your heart ripped to shreds to, listen to the her original demo of Love Is A Losing Game. A vocal masterpiece.
Btw she is one of the greatest singers ever. RIP Amy.
Black in this case is depression. When she repeats "black..." towards the end to me the timing is like the chiming of the church bells. Beautiful.
Wow! Great reaction, bro. She got me too. Just something different, mysterious, sexy about this amazing talent. She got it!
Such an amazing talent, gone too soon. RIP!
Such an amazing artist!! Gone way too soon! RIP Amy💜
A truely lost soul, a beautiful woman who was destroyed by the media in the uk we miss you Amy,much love always..
I love Amy Winehouse. Gone too soon. Suggestion for Women on Wednesday: check out Nina Simone - Four Women and Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger. Amazing voices from legends who opened the door to many of today's young female singer/song writers.
Shirley Bassey = Legend
I second Four Women!
Please do Stevie Nicks singing Rhiannon, the 1976 concert recording. Or Patti Smith doing "Gloria".
Patti Smith "Gloria" incredible! Also "People Got the Power" and "Wing".
Yes! Rhiannon!
Mick Fleetwood called Stevie’s live performances of “Rhiannon” back in those years like “exorcisms”. Off the damn charts.
man I'm only 29 but I appreciate so much that 'young people' can relate to good music in this time too. makes me so happy. Good music is timeless. So much respect for your respect to good music.
ps: if you want to see real sadness watch amys one of her last performances (I think it was belgium)
@@DD-bj5yp Thanks for the love! Truer words have never been spoken --"Amy was magic sand...." To coincide with that, upon giving this album its first play I felt as if I trapped lightening in a bottle -- and not just Georgia Moonshine! LOL!!!
RIP Amy. Much love.xx
Hey, man. My recommendation is Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy. When Nirvana were creating grunge music in America, Massive Attack were making the new genre trip-hop in the UK. Think you'll love the vibe.
Yesssssssss
Hell yes.... 💖
Love massive attaxk
@@gish__ They did a Portishead a while back -would love to see more reactions to them!
Check out Kimbra “Settle Down” or any of her songs. Jazz style. She’s the girl in Gotye “Somebody that I used to know”
Listen to "Goldmine"
So much talent, another life gone at 27.
Try a “27” tribute, as there have been so many 😭
RIP Amy 🙏 everytime I hear her voice I cry. Love you guys from the Nap to GI.
I am from the USA
. She is One of my favorite singers of all times. It makes me so sad that she is gone but never forgotten i watched her documentary
I miss you queen of soul and jazz
Listen to Valerie that's her best song. She was absolutely one of a kind. She took what was old and mixed it with what was new and made her own special timeless sound. RIP Amy 🖤🖤🖤
Kristin Myrtle love Valerie!
That's my least favourite of hers! No way! lol. She was so, so good.
Kristin Myrtle agree!
Mark Ronson wrote that, didn't he?
@@iammatthewbain it's actually a cover written by this group The Zutons. Mark Ronson arranged and produced for Amy. Her version is way better I think :)
I had not listened to Amy until after she was gone at the tender age of 27 - she was very talented - Vices they sneak up on u and u b gone - ain't worth it -
And when she was gone, we all went back to black, missing that phenomenal talent of hers.
Her voice gives me the chills too! Love her.
Do “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse!
YES
extended version with the Jay z rap!
Sad she ended up being part of the 27 club.,. BUT can u listen to Mazzy Star’s Fade into You... a 90s staple for me in my world at least
Fuck yes. Mazzy Star!!!
That song definitely
Elizabeth Thorp yes!!! Same!
Back to black means when her bf goes back to his wife, she dies inside without him...I think anyway. Amy was such a treasure. Gone to soon! ❤️
Amy was simply amazing, would have loved to hear her mature over the decades, but sadly not meant to be. Mad props for recognising this song was going to be 'savage' as early as you did!
She was one of the best that has ever been
Exactly. Hand to your heart as soon as she starts singing. ♥️ RIP Amy
I love the reactions you two have to hearing musicians for the first time. I grew up listening to my parents country & western music, and my Motown, blues, and rock. What kind of music was played in your home when you were growing up. Not what music you were in to, but others in your home.
Did you hear Rehab by her? That was her most famous song RIP Amy💜🙏🏼
She's basically saying without him she's dead inside.
She was a bad picker of men
@@lauraharmour We don't choose who we love

It's my all time jam..
Love her music. Reminds me of soul music from the late 60's and early 70's, especially Tears Dry on Their Own.
Amy sang so soulfully. She really put all her heart and soul in her songs. I certainly miss her. We never got to really have all of her music. There was so much more she was meant to sing. But she's in heaven now singing with the angels. Thanks for choosing Amy!!!
If you have not listened to K.D. Lang "Constant Craving" or 'Wash me Clean would be a good 'First listen'
Amy's true life broken heart. Miss her!
She reminds me a little of Billie Holiday - that voice, smoky and full of pain. RIP, Amy.
One off my favorite artists and a talent gone too soon. I'm glad you found this song. Listen to more of her because she will change your life through her music.
She was so talented. She will always be remembered. RIP Amy!!!!
