The Specials hold a "special" place in my heart. I back packed through Europe the summer of '81, Ghost Town was played that whole summer.
good one Richard
Great times,
I'm so glad I was only 13 when these guys were doing this. Still listening 45 years later.
I was lucky enough to have a dad born in the early 60’s, he was in to 70’s punk and Ska music so songs like this were around in his youth and he shared songs like these with me when I was little, really opened my world to so many great songs and genres, which is why I’m here!
my dad was born in the mid 70,s loves punk and ska so that's also why I'm here, I remember being 4 dancing with my dad to this and its one of my favourite childhood memories, so much love to your dad mate he sounds like a good one 👍
RIP Terry you will always be so very special to us your fans xx You are to young to pass away xx i have loved you and your band since your beginning xx Gone but never forgotten lol Jane x🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀

It was in Doc Martin season 1 but it had different lyrics, something about a white house. It was the episode when Elaine's dad got married.

Don't understand a word they're singing but ,, " I LIKE IT , A HA , A HA "
...singing about bouncers...
Thanks KS , really have to listen to lyrics . Is monkey man , slang for bouncer ? Might be urban lingo gonna check it out . Quarantine gives us plenty of time . Thanks again
@@deandiaz7757 i think it just means like big bodybuilder types, ive not actually looked though
Special songs always had some sort of deeper meaning to them and probably the most important things to all there songs is the lyrics.
This song is about a woman who gets busy with another man, probably a big guy, and the original singer Toots(and the Maytals) is jealous, calling the guy a big monkey man!
“I didn’t see you, I only heard of you,
hugging up a big monkey man.
It’s no lie, it’s no lie,
hugging up a big monkey man”.
🏁💙
Food fight everyone
Taj Mahal's did a similar version called Coconut man
Reel big fish did a version in the early 00s was wicked 👌🏻
Just by the album cover and their clothes I could tell they were a ska band

He's No Lie.
How bad are people that doesn understand?
i demonised myself
Those comments were common in Norway as well in the 50s and 60s,
when racial slurs were publicly accepted and rooted upon.
Nothing racist about it. It’s a cover of a Toots and the Maytals song. Here’s what Toots said about the song in an interview:
“Well Monkeyman is all about a girl, a very good looking girl like you! I fell in love with her and then a monkey-looking man took her away from me but I thought she was in love with me. The guy was ugly and not good looking like me, ha ha!”
Official soundtrack of Africa
Damn
Stop it!!!!!!!!
Only Toots did it better.
This probably wouldn't get released nowadays in case it upset the" woke gen z" crowd who haven't a clue
