David Cook is so vocally versatile it's insane!!! I He still does amazing covers in his live concerts ! There isn't a song or genre he won't try....That's what I call talent!!! thanks Idol for finding this amazing performer! I just adore the studio version of this song by the way!
0 dislikes! the guy was just mind-blowing really. Glad to know this is true appreciation of an artist. Really worthy of the title of American Idol, David Cook.
This version is so damn good. Dolly is an incredible singwriter (she wrote the iconic "I Will Always Love You). Cook's voice is just stunning, powerful yet totally controlled. He has one of the few male falsettos that is perfect in timbre and tone.
LOVE HIM!! Is there anything he cant sing?? jeez, he sang roberta flack, dolly parton, aerosmith.. WOW!! he's like one of the two people ever to be on idol that is insanely versatile. (DC and kelly)
The full studio version of this - recorded in Idol weekend rush as usual back then - is truly amazing. (not available for streaming or purchase now, because back then these quick recordings were just temporary on iTunes). ruclips.net/video/-5SlQ9PuStQ/видео.html
Same. Never watched an episode other than the auditions for the funny bad ones, until the end if this season then watched all the way through season 8 because of Adam and Allison
Can't seem to get this out of my head today! Thought I'd stop by and watch it... again... for the 100th time! lol Thanks for posting! David did an amazing job w/ this song! :-) And I'd also like to say that Simon's comments at the end are ridiculous... the song isn't about a damn bird. It's a metaphor... if he would've stopped being so arrogant for 2 seconds & actually listened to the lyrics maybe he'd understand. Sometimes I miss Simon ... and then things like this remind me why I don't! JMO!
Hey, David Cook fans! His new album is available for pre-order, along with great album packages and insider sneak peeks at pledgemusic.com/davidcook . Check it out! If you liked this song, you should pre-order the acoustic EP!
i totally agree. season 7 was the best season ever. david cook, david archuleta, jason castro, brooke white, carly smithson and michael johns were the best in their batch.
One thing i noticed...he always ends his songs with a minor chord. That's why the songs sound so haunting and really stick with you. Nevertheless, i'm a huge fan and i'm watching his concert VIP seating on his concert in Manila!!!! Woohoo!!!
@Jaylecialee Yeah, normally I agree with Simon on just about everything, but when he said that the song was about sparrows and simultaneously insulting it (while I think it is a beautiful analogy), I was a bit miffed. What an insult to a brilliant woman like Dolly.
@chuggggggy Personally, the other day I was thinking that if they brought all the winners back to compete, which they SHOULDN'T do it is a terrible idea, Cook would take it again, though it would be a close race between David, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson
@lala069 funny you say that...DC was convinced Archie was going to win, that is why he reaction is so priceless...I am just glad talent prevailed over "the Bieber Effect" in this case, not to say that Archie isn't awesome in his own right, but let's face it, DC was clearly the best choice here.
In honor of American Idol being over soon - one of the worst seasons in my opinion. No excitement about the F2. David Cook, winner of season 8 is the last Idol to sell over a million records. He always made songs his own... very talented guy with a heart to boot. Love this song. And this is also proof of why Simon was good... he never slobbered over the Idols, like the current useless Judges. Even Randy was better then.
@Gluedpaperheart I said they shouldn't do it, I don't think it is a good idea either. I realize they come from all different genres but most of the time so do most of the contestants in each season, so using that as a reason not to have to choose is a cop out. David went up against pop and country singers in his season, just as Kelly and Carrie went up against rockers, so that isn't the reason it would be close...
Cook didn't win over Archie merely because he's a WGWG. Archie could've won since he was the cute-kid-young-girls-vote-for-non-stop (and at the same time did have strong performances) - but, Cook played the game wisely. Themes? Whatever. It didn't stop Cook from sticking to the kind of artist he is by carefully choosing arrangements that did him good. I don't think the "talent" was the one that beat "the Bieber effect" since Archie also had it; what beat it was the "strategy"...
Always loved this version.
Don't mind me...just here going down a David Cook rabbit hole on RUclips because I can't sleep
i still love love this rendition even years after...thanks David
What a gorgeous voice he has!
Beautiful performance, right there!

the harmony in the intro is just crazy good!!
Totally enamored with 1:28 , so cute the way he tenses up during the falsetto 🥰😍
Just showing some love as I travel down this youtube rabbit hole of music.
Wow I forgot about this, seriously a fantastic performance. I love this, so sweet.

He took a country song and make it his own. Unbelievable. Sure his arrangements might be assisted, but getting it right every week is amazing.
His smile literally melts me.
He was my favorite! I called him Sparrow after that!
This show humbled him in such an amazing way. :D
Has been a huge fan since I saw him on Idol - amazing!!!
The harmonics at the end were pure brilliance
incredible i love when dolly smile when he do that hight note in begins ,just amazing!
david...UR ALWAYS B MY BABY...i luv u so much! great voice, great singer w/ great heart.

that dolly song is an award winning classic , i wish it got played more...
I love Dolly Parton. I saw her a few years ago at the Rose Quarter in Portland. :) She's so amazing!
Same. Never watched an episode other than the auditions for the funny bad ones, until the end if this season then watched all the way through season 8 because of Adam and Allison
Would like to see David make an album of all his Idol songs .

who wouldve thought that david would sing dolly parton? wow he really pulled this off!!
This is great! Simon doesn't know everything!
fucking awesome.

Dolly writes the best songs!!
no dislikes for the win!!!
didn't he go to the hospital after this performance? even more respect for that
This song is the only time I've ever voted on AI... goosebumps.
@KataGarbo David Cook is the winner of American Idol season 7. Just saying. :)
@Gluedpaperheart I said they shouldn't do it, I don't think it is a good idea either. ryan look kinda small size beside david...... generally he look kinda small in size besides Leona lewis in another video too...
Do you see the dislike bar?
Yeah, me neither.
so simon like sparrows and not blackbirds? lol ;)
not as good as last week? well shit, what the hell did he do last week?? i don't watch idol, and i'd really like to hear it...
"AH LAHK YER HAYRCUT."
God, I miss Paula sometimes.
No talent's quite matched season 7's, in my opinion.
Would like to see David make an album of all his Idol songs .
