We came to Belize this past winter and loved it. We visited the cayo district (Santa Elena, benque veijo and san ignacio.) Hopkins and Placencia. We really liked Placencia because of the nice beaches but we really fell in love with San Ignacio/Santa Elena area. We hope to come back soon and check out more areas.
@@kellyeckman7538 they are all good areas, we go shopping in the twin towns often and have made many friends there that we enjoy talking with and swapping stories, people are just living and moving at their own pace, it's the k8ds playing outside that made me initially fall in love with Belize, kids are safe to be kids like it once was in the states... thanks for watching the video 😁
@kellyeckman7538....he is right for sure........my Family and I go to the Cayo District every year for at least 14 days....we have been to the Coastal areas but love the Cayo District.....we have a lot of locals who we consider Family in the San Ignacio and Santa Elana area that are guides and also own a beautiful place to stay called Shalom..kinda a resort.... Please check it out and tell them Trey sent you...some of tyem own a local bakery called ARC...it's amazing good
Growing up in Belize, you would go to Placencia and have amazing fun, now things have changed a lot. The million dollar homes have changed the whole area. I only go there and spend the day. This is what a lot of Belizeans don't like. For those with money who go to Belize, build huge homes that don't even fit with the carribean vibe and make it difficult for Belizeans to afford land in Belize. As a Belizean who is looking to come home soon, I love your attitude, your home, and your lifestyle. You fit right in perfectly!
@SegantPhilippaGraham I agree, the homes in Placencia are ridiculous to say the least, almost a status symbol. A humble life is a proud one. Thanks for watching and thank you for the compliment 😊
Glad you made that video. Before I came to Belize twice and decided to buy property there, I looked into buying a condo in Curacao, Bonaire, Maui and even New Zealand. You make it clear, it's too expensive for MY budget at all those places and would have killed my budget quickly. Looking forward for some unexpected obstacles along the way to settle there. I am not in SP or Placencia or near a tourist trap.
I was in Placencia on a tour with my sister in the 1990's... kayaking from Caye to Caye and arriving in Placencia. Placencia was so magical, beautiful sandy beaches, and jungle in the background. Placentia was like a little fisherman village. Warm and wonderful with locals who had great stories to tell. We were told, at the time, that the most exciting thing for Placencia was television in some homes in the community (homes on stilts because of tides, flooding and winds), and their neighbors and friends would visit the neighbors with the TVs to watch shows together, which I thought was really sweet and community friendly. But I'm both surprised and not surprised to hear of the "progressive" changes, like removing the mangroves, and building structures for those who can afford it. It sounds very different from the sweet, natural place I experienced.
@nikkininedoor1480 I heard lots of similar stories of how the magic of what really made Placencia has gone with the progress, it's sad to hear of everything that has been lost in the name of money and progress. Thanks for watching the video 😁
I was in Maya Beach,/Placencia for one week at end of June. Nice resort town. What you say seemed really true. I know the people are friendly but unfortunately didn't get a feel that we were seeing anything less that tourist prices and being in a tourist trap. If i go back in October will look around at other places. Thanks for the cautionary account. I find your content informative. 😁✌🏿❤️🙏🏿
Yes exactly , I know what you mean when you say i wish Belize would slow down. Some parts of Belize is becoming too urbanize . I was born in Belize but i have lived in the USA for 18 years now, i finally plan to move back. so, i know what to expect of the life style in Belize.
That would all depend on what you like. San Pedro/Secret beach area is the PARTY PLACE!lots of traffic, noise, fights, bars, drunks and just about everything else. It's mini CANCUN if you ask me so if your into partying or dealing with partying people it's great...thanks for watching.
That was an interesting point of view. I am confident that you have saved someone an expensive heartbreak. Folks, When you've cashed in a lifetime of chips for that one last shot at getting it all just right, you don't want to be wrong. 50 years in and out of Central America means that I have pretty much seen it all. This gentleman is not selling you anything he is trying to help his fellow gringos. His were words to well consider, friends. 🔮
After watchings alot of videos, reading my wife and I are more interested in moving to the cayo district. And, every single house we see woth acres we love, is in the cayo district. We're pretty much private people too. Thecplaces whefe they always piont to, seems to be a fun week or weekend get away, but love the private jungle houses instead.

Want to make that same move even before i started watching you on RUclips you just appeared. with the same country same idea . To much like the Florida Keys for me. No privacy and to many uppity people hiding behind money. Just my observation but money doesn't make people less fake or nice in my book.

One of our favorite places in San Ignacio was the New French Bakery.

Finally going to Corozal in October, it’s a test run to see if we can put up with the heat/humidity.
Hopefully we get to see some properties for sale.

@jayboogeyman we are in Cayo, it fits us well and most everyone is private and doing a little farm or garden in Cayo...
@WhereToNexxt sounds perfect. There are 5 houses we want to look at if we can it down there this year.

Cowbell is that of which more is needed. If something's missing somewhere, cowbell is needed.
Do you still live there
Not in Placencia... Still in Belize.
Where are you living now?
@@michellemorrow1356 cayo district....

I figured out I didn't fit in when I had a gun shot behind my back in a boat and the police raided my house. Placencia is a boring dead place....
