Awesome video. I saw the patterns and wanted to know what they were like. Great demonstration and interviewing. I will definitely make some for my kids.
So glad this was helpful! This video was a result of me not being able to find these answers online either, so I'm glad that me testing them out was able to help you too.
I came to RUclips specifically hoping someone had made a review exactly like this. I didn't want to take the time to make these if they didn't really work well. Thank you so much for taking the time to do such a detailed review and answer every question I was having about how well these work.
So glad this was helpful! When I first learned about them, I did the same thing and started looking for a review/test but couldn't find what I was looking for. The adult part of me thought these were a great idea (less mess, less work, etc.) but the child in me wondered if these would actually be fun or not haha I wanted to test them for myself and figured others might have the same questions I did. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! My only comment is that is the kids had to pick up all the little water balloon pieces afterwards, they would love these crochet ones even more!!
I really enjoyed this video! It answered a lot of the questions I had about how well these water balloons would work. I was wondering how many water balloons the kids were playing with? Did it seem like it was a good number of water balloons for five kids? Or would you recommend making more? Thanks for taking the time to put this together!
Glad you enjoyed it! I had 20+ balloons that the five kids were playing with in the video and think it was plenty. So about 3-5 balloons per child should be good. Thanks for the comment!
I wondered the same thing, which is part of why I made this video and tested them out! The main difference is the texture of the material. A wet cloth would be very heavy and awkward to throw. The yarn used for these balloons are a lot lighter, and have higher absorbency per weight. So they are easy to throw and give a better "splat" than say a wash cloth.
Mine held up super well! I think the Bernat blanket yarn was slightly more durable than the Hobby Lobby version of blanket yarn. Occasionally, one of the tails would come out of the center of a balloon and would leave a little bit of fuzz behind. But these held up for years (at least 5?) I did eventually have to toss these ones out - not because the yarn fell apart, but because they got left outside in a bucket in the rain for a few weeks and grew mold 😣 So for longevity's sake, make sure to always let them dry completely after playing with them. 😄
While a similar concept, I find these soooo much better than the splash balls. I think the splat of water is better, and these hurt way less than the splash balls in my opinion. *flashbacks to childhood and that annoying kid at the pool beaming me in the face with a splash ball* 🤣
In this video, we used just over 20, and it was plenty for the 5 kids & me. I think 3-5 balloons per kid would be great. Could probably get away with fewer if the kids are younger, since it takes them a little longer to throw and gather the balloons 😄
The popping rubber was alot of the fun. This is basically getting slapped with a wet sock. There's a guy who invented these easy fill balloons that there's like 50 balloons all held to tubes with elastics and the tubes all go into this thing that plugs to the tap or hose. Then as they reach full capacity, they drop off one by one and the elastics that held them on the tubes then 'tie off' the balloon. So you fill a buck full of balloons all at once, there's no trying to get them on the hose or tap, or get them off and tie them without shooting water all over. Yeah, the mess is still an issue, but I don't see these being a long lasting widespread thing. They get moldy, they need to be stored year round, dirt and debris sticks to them and gets on the person or in their eye or mouth or if it's gravel that wedged into one, it could hurt them just like if a twig stuck in one ad poked an eye. I dunno. I do know that when thrown by teens and preteens, water balloons hurt and after awhile leave marks. I was that age and can vividly remember the whap and the sting. And the waterlogged sagging clothes and the water filled sneakers because alot of the time there were unannounced water balloon attacks. Oh well. I've rambled enough. I do dig the ones that I described from my inventive and creative side. But my adult side who does yardwork, not so much. But, part of the deal with the kids is that they have to clean up after. Not just leave it everywhere.
@@ange8576which is very important and I want to do as much as I can when I’m of age to move out ❤ (family life can be more difficult to accomplish this with)
Why would they get moldy? It's recommended to use Bernat Blanket for a reason - it's safe to throw in the washing machine and dryer. So just throw them in the laundry when done for the day. Then you have like new water balloons for the next water balloon fight. Easy.
I thought that was going to be an issue, but they actually are super easy to clean! Once done playing with them, just hose them off and leave in the sun to dry. In my area, we have red clay that stains really easily, and of course tossing them in the yard can pick up bits of grass and leaves, so I wasn't expecting them to clean well after they got a bit dirty from using. But simply hosing them off worked great to remove all traces of dirt and debris!

I love that you interviewed kids because they will ALWAYS be honest!
So true! haha
Fantastic video! You addressed every question I had from absorbency to pain level! Well done!

Woohoo! Just bought yarn for these, so happy they actually work!
I was so doubtful about these when I first heard about them, but they work so well and are such fun!
Great review! I had no idea how they'd do. I would miss the explosion of the balloons but thus would definitely make clean up much easier 😉
Glad the video helped! And yes, cleanup is so much easier! :)
Also, better if you have dogs. My shepherd chases everything, this won't be as dangerous
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! You did an excellent job. 👍 👍
Awesome review. My kids are 6 and 4. I was debating what size to make. You've answered my concerns.
So glad this helped!
This was the best review video. It answered all my questions and look forward to making some of my own.
So glad it was helpful! I had a LOT of questions myself before trying them out, and I couldn't find the answers anywhere else online.
Great video! I wondered how well these would do. Now I know. I loved the kid interviews- so fun! :-)
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for your comment and sharing!

I like this style of testing, thank you ❤️
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.
Great video! I plan to make some (both your pattern and the larger pattern) for a local nature center that has summer youth camps. ❤
I bet they will greatly appreciate them!
2:31 and they are having fun not even throwing them. :)
They had a blast playing with them! (And so did I 😄)
@@CraftersAutonomous I have a bunch made. Im going to be selling (with luck) at a craft fair in a few weeks.
This was super cute and very informative! 😊
Would it be ok if I shared this on my crafting page?
Sure, I'd love if you shared this video! Glad to hear it was helpful.
Thanks for demonstrating!
It was a lot of fun to test these out! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you for this review

How is this different than balling up a eash cloth and throwing it?

The yarn used for these balloons are a lot lighter, and have higher absorbency per weight. So they are easy to throw and give a better "splat" than say a wash cloth.
How does the yarn hold up... Does it start to fall apart easy after some uses?
Mine held up super well! I think the Bernat blanket yarn was slightly more durable than the Hobby Lobby version of blanket yarn. Ok thanks!
Are these not just homemade splash balls?

So why not just use a wet sock?
I wanna know about the balloons that stick to the fence lol
I think the fence was rough enough that it snagged the yarn haha
How many did they need to play?
In this video, we used just over 20, and it was plenty for the 5 kids & me. I think 3-5 balloons per kid would be great. Could probably get away with fewer if the kids are younger, since it takes them a little longer to throw and gather the balloons 😄

I think it’s about eliminating plastic as much as we can.

Little pain builds character. Lol I mean from games. It obviously didn’t hurt that bad because they looked like they were having a ball
my kids would so get them full of dirt and leafs.

You see how theres no water coming out?
So you are throwing wet yarn at each other. This is stupid 😂😂
No need for negativity :)
Yeah, they didnt have fun at all 🙄🙄🙄
seems like the same amount of water as a water balloon, isn't that what's fun about a water balloon fight? 😂
@@maddybrong the whole point is to be eco friendly and not clean up a ton of plastic pieces laying in your yard. There’s a reason behind it.
Better than filling up balloons and picking up all the little pieces of balloon up from your yard
