I tried all 4 of these types of ramen and here are my favorite to least-favorite:
    1. Miso-Love the aroma, the taste, and the veggies! I love heavy broths!
    2. Shoyu-Great! Really like the smell and taste.
    3. Shio- Also great! Too light for me though.
    4. Tonkotsu-Okay. But I'm not much of a meat person.

This video will really come in handy with all the ramen options available in Japan. I was thinking of checking out the Ramen Museum as a way to try all the different varieties at once, but Tokyo Ramen Street sounds like a good option as well.

Another division is tsukemen, where the noodles and soup are served in separate bowls, and you dip the noodles into the soup. Flavorwise, 'niboshi' is almost a category of its own as the soup uses fish (mostly anchovies) as a base.

My workplace is in Ikebukuro but I never tried Mutekiya because of the freaking long queue. I usually eat ramen at Shibuya because they have English support vending machines and I can ask for "KAEDAMA" twice.

Just got back from Japan... first ramen I tried was in Odaiba’s ramen “st” inside Aqua City.. I wanted to try “shoyu” because I heard it is the original... the noodles were amazing and so was the pork, however thinking it was a soy sauce based soup ( shoyu ) it tasted like seafood broth instead, I didn’t like it It really put me off Ramen. Next day I tried a spicy tonkotsu ramen in Shibuya.. it was amazing and my confidence was somewhat restored until I went to Ichiran Ramen which is supposed to be one of the best , and their regular tonkotsu had a super strong pork flavor that took over my mouth and really thin noodles, it was OK but strong and I ordered the medium. The rest of the time I just opted to try all my ramen in Tokyo as Spicy ramen so I wouldn’t get the strong flavors. I’m kind of disappointed with Ramen and I hate that I am because Tokyo’s other foods (sushi, yakitori, etc) changed my life. My advice is to start with Light soups if you can.
