This has to be one of most favorite best looking cocktail cabinet I've ever seen, with those nice curves around the control panel.

Are the translucent buttons seen in this version of Defender and (later) N.A.R.C. still manufactured/readily available. Just curious.

it always broke my heart when I had to convert an original defender cocktail table into something like ghosts&goblins or the time I made a joust cocktail table into a bubble Bobble. I did manage to save a rare Starcastle cocktail table from cinematronics it's the prototype it was in their break room ...

As a player and lover of classic games I can relate. It broke my heart to find some modern stupid game in a classic cabinet. Mostly Gauntlet machines that I saw converted around here. That was just a crime

I bought one of these back in '02 (never knew they made Defender in a table version as I don't recall ever seeing one growing up in the 80's) I was actually going to buy a cocktail table Asteroids until he mentioned he also had Defender! Funny thing, it was several years before I realised it took batteries, though mine works on three AAs.
It worked great for years, but eventually it began having weird start up issues. I'd plug it in, but the start button wouldn't work. I'd leave it plugged in for several hours, then unplug it, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in, and the start button would work.
Then one day I think I must have dislodged something while changing the batteries (they were in there really tight!) because the memory stopped working and I had to go through the setup every time I plugged it in.
It still played great like this for a few more years, then the monitor began to flicker every so often,...then one day it went dark.
Some day I hope to get it fixed, until then, its just my novelty kitchen table,...oh yeah, I had a nice square piece of glass cut so I could put it on top and use it like a real cocktail table,...don't know what they were thinking with those cutouts?

John Felts We replace the caps that typically dry out. We have a usual pattern of what we find fails.

The great thing about Defender is the difficulty adjustment. You can set it anywhere from level 1-99. There are videos of people playing it on level 99 and it's pretty intense. You don't have to worry about getting too good at the game.

Technically I suppose for really nutty geek fans. if there was a Dead main board for any one of these games. I'd just frame the thing with some sort of Pinbot logo or Defender in the box frame :) Someone could say it's junk. Eh probably the closes I'll get to owning a piece of a pinbot. (or bride) although I get a kick everytime I see a PSU that looks like it came out of a desktop inside one of these arcade games. xoxide.com used to have some unique PSU's. (high watt) but I suppose if one knows what they are doing they could mod the wires to fit anything they want.
