I am glad to hear such good opinions and sensations of this expression that I enjoy so much. One of the few Islay labels that are available here, and even at a price that has jumped, it's a whisky that I plan to re-stock. I like this new angle in the video 👌The best for you in this 2023!🙌.. Cheers from Paraguay. 🥃

One of my favorite scotches and hard to beat at the price. It is becoming a little less common around me since more people are buying it which makes me happy but it does mean I pick some extra up to keep a few in stock.

    Earlier today, my manager & I were discussing different Bourbon's & Scotch's.
Just sent him the link to this vid since he mainly talked about Islay & he replied back that he watched it earlier today.
We've never discussed RUclipsrs so I had no idea we watched some of the same Tuber's 😂

Love this bottle.. I would like to know more about how the shape and size of pot stills affect the flavor of the spirit. I hope one of these new distillery go for stills similar to Lagavulin and Macallan so we can get some nice tasting robust whiskys.. Many American single malts distillery use more industrial looking copper pot still as opposed to the traditional Scottish style, and I'm curious about the factors influencing the whiskys.

    •  Год назад +5

It affects the new make spirit (freshly distilled spirit which will become a whisky with age) a lot when it is distilled. Do make a research on the parts of the still and you will find out how every single part affects the spirit. The shape of the still, angle of the lyne arm and the speed of running the still majorly affect things like reflux which can make a new make spirit lighter or heavier. I could talk about it for hours but it is a very interesting process to learn by yourself and you will see how literally every single small thing affects the final result. It explains a lot why two different distillers cannot probably make the same spirit😂

It took me a second dram to get it, but once I did... I'm grateful this stuff exists, it's lovely, rich and so charmingly characterful. At ~55-60 EUR, it's not a cheap whiskey, but the stellar quality merits the price. I can't argue with the rating, either.

Excellent review, Ralfy! I agree with your assessment of Port Charlotte 10 yr. It was the first single malt I ever purchased and has remained one of my favorites. For the price, I would choose it every time. I also agree about the limited editions, they aren’t worth a significant mark up from the tastings I’ve had with friends. I may still grab a bottle to sit with it for a while if I can find a good price on one. Cheers!

My bottle arrived this week, had a couple drams yesterday for the first time. Simply stunning! I was seriously blown away. I had tasted the Laphroaig Portwood a few weeks ago... and yes, I know there's no port in this... and it's probably not as similar... but it really reminded me of it. I could nose this for days. Excellent stuff. IMHO this is absolutely better than Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10 and Ledaig 10. I need to try others of their line up now!

When I opened the bottle and poured my first dram of this I wasn’t 100% sure whether it was for me. I initially found it a little challenging. Subsequently each time I have gone back to it I find it’s really grown on me and now I am a huge fan. It’s a very interesting and complex whisky with bags of character. Although heavily peated, it’s well balanced and not at all overwhelming. I will definitely be buying another bottle before the current one runs out. Another great review Ralfy!

Such a nice surprise when something lives up to the hype (and the price tag - a little over my usual budget but well worth the money, so I'll have to ration it). I bought an interesting bottle of a mystery 15yo Islay single malt, 46% ABV, natural colour and non chill filtered. Its Mac-Talla Strata from Morrison Distillers & it was £63.00 from Masters of Malt. Its a rather good dram. Its thought to be Caol Ila or possibly even Bowmore. I'll definitely buy another bottle of this.

A medicinal dram, a cross between Caol Ila & Ardbeg, isn't what I was drinking in an Edinburgh bar last weekend!
Had a choice of over 50 malts and opted for Port Charlotte 10, as it's Ralfy recommended and malt of the year.
Stale and definitely no peat smoke, hugely disappointed and doubt what came from the bottle was Port Charlotte!

You mentioned medicinal, iodine, ash, sweet & sour slight savory and umami. I am getting a lot of savory/umami combined with round ripe fruite sweetness: my main association is sweet marinade barbecue meat. Compared to other islays, this is sweetere and the least ashy. Maybe this is indeed the difference between batches.

Hi Ralfy. Just bought a bottle of this off a big online site and it can without the tin. Emailed Bruichladdich direct and they said “We do not produce Port Charlotte 10 with a tin anymore as we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint.”
What are your thoughts on this? I can completely understand their rationale but I do love a nice box with my Malt ! For it to come just as a bottle I feel a little ‘short changed’. Maybe I need to have a rethink. Cheers.

Ps Thankyou btw for having the foresight to keep the value of your malts at the forefront. By all means enjoy the good stuff and share with us. That said many of us are in for a rough ride in regards to the prices and I’m guessing that a good amount of malt mates will be looking for the hidden gems and unexpected and non pretentious value scotches in the coming years while braving this world economic crisis.

It is purely a selfish claim on my part and I hope this does not cause a shortage of it over hear in the states!!! You did a wonderful job on the review as always. I'm an audiophile, and if I were to discuss hifi qualities to the same detail, I'd be getting comments saying I'm only hearing the details because I want to justify the cost of the equipment, but of course, these would be people who haven't experienced those differences for themselves, or haven't tuned their ears to pick out the subtleties. I certainly do not have Ralfy's pallet, but I have been drinking whisky and watching along for over 10 years. This one didn't quite do it for me. it is certainly a well presented whisky, but calling it "heavily peated" I think is a little in accurate. Laphroaig cask strength is what I would consider "heavily peated" It is nicely ashy though I completely agree with that!

The best peated for the money. Even after paying $100 for a bottle. I’m, like you, at my second bottle but I just finished my first. And like you I enjoyed it so much. Honestly it wasn’t a surprise when you made it whisky of 2022. That bottle deserves it.

Maybe decided my drink for tonight. Have loved PC10 as my top Islay malt. I won at auction a PC 8yr PAC 01 2011. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can give it a go.

I like the Kilchoman Sanaig way more than this one. Why haven't you reviewed that whisky? 😋
