You require the subtitles (captions) as the lyric's are extremely important. The lyric's talk about them and their struggles to and their resilience to keep going even when they don't even know what country they've arrived in, no matter they wake up to find themselves worn out in a place they don't even understand the language. Suga and RM often using every spare minute between dance practice siting on a plane or in the car writing lyric's composing music etc how it never stops but they have each other to give them power to keep growing, performing. etc etc.

I believe for the video it’s dancers from an LA group the Lab. The young lady in middle at the beginning is the choreographer. The marching band sounds and from the live performance is the UCLA marching band. There’s a really good documentary about the process of making this song with the marching band and choir singers avail on RUclips

      @Maraaha55 5 месяцев назад +12

Yes indeed. I think they also used UCLA choir members, IF I remember correctly.
I think that for performances like this they would have used dancers for the band members, not least because of scheduling issues. For live performances, I think that if you see band players, they are probably playing live. Because that's how BTS works.

BTS used Carl Jung's analytical psychology to write the lyrics and make the official MV. It talks about accepting our shadows, which are those repressed parts of us. We can only evolve when we truly accept these repressed parts of ourselves. That's why the lyrics say "leave me with my everything" Only when we accept everything that is part of us can we find peace.
By the way, the drums announce. the battle that will be faced... just as it was in the Middle Ages that soldiers were warned to prepare for battle with drums.

71 year old BTS Army here. This song is filmed at the Sepulveda Dam near L.A. The performers are the multi World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps along with some members of the UCLA Marching Band. Sienna Lalau front and center of the opening scene is the choreographer at the age of 19 along with some members of her dance group, "The Lab". There were also background vocals by a gospel choir.
    Amazing track for sure!!!

You should check out the 'making of' video for ON, which features members of UCLA marching band etc. and many American artists reflecting on working with BTS and BH which was a completely new experience for them
The level of production here is normal for BTS. They do occasionally use CGI, but avoid it wherever they can - eg will use it for explosions to minimise danger to performers, who are often very close to that action! This came out in 2020 which predates their military service by nearly three years - but RM is now in his military band unit, playing the tenor sax and apparently loving it. (I suspect it's a huge relief from the heavy responsibilities he's had since he was 16)
When this was made, BTS were loaded, but until (probably) 2018, they were in kpop terms, skint. In particular their early MVs were made on a shoestring, and they had to use managers' cars, and even managers as extras. They've always been very inventive (because they had to be) and their camera staff are integral to the performances, so, yes, they have their own choreography too, designed to integrate with the dance moves and music rhythm. 'Save Me' was filmed on a rainy beach in one take. That camera team (one camera man, one guide) were heroes. There's a making of video of that too - they were all bloody frozen!
In fact for many (most?) BTS MVs there is actually a suite of relevant material - dance practice, making of, MV and live performances - worth looking at them together if you are properly interested in what BTS do and have time....

Please TURN ON THE CLOSED CAPTIONS when you watch a BTS video. In my opinion, if you are not getting the meaning of the song, then you are not getting the heart of the song. Which is important for understanding. As you should know, as lyricists and songwriters yourself. I've indluded the behind the scenes and a mini documenatry type video on how this project came to be. BTS have deep lyrics, so you are missing the meanings, which fall in line with the concept of their ERA, and albums. This particular album is from their Map of the Soul (MOTS) ERA, which starts with the MOTS: Persona album, and then ended on the MOTS: 7 album. It's very introspective and is inspired by Carl Jung's psychological concepts of Shadow, EGO, and Persona, which is from the concept or theory of Individuation, which was a psychological concept created by Carl Jung (Swiss psychiatrist, psychotherapist and psychologist).
In this ERA BTS look inside themselves and reflect on their journey as artists and humans. The first album being about their Persona, the songs were mostly for and about their fans. and the second album was more of Personal journey inside themselves. Their lyricism is on another level. RM wrote a lot of the songs in this one, but every member contributed. Maybe if you check out their behind the scenes and commentary film, you will get a better idea of what kind of artists they are. They are not your typical "boy band" They also have an actual music video for this song as well, that tells a story. With it's own behind the scenes.

*EDIT: in responding to your comment at the end. This was the UCLA Marching band, and this was a part of their BTS connect project. This project was put out in 2020, before the pandemic hit, and before they ever enlisted in the military. Actually, They are all enlisted right now, except for JIN who was just discharged a day before their 11th year anniversary. The only member out of the seven that is actually playing an instrument in the military marching band is RM. He took up the tenor Saxophone, and is killing it. He played for JIN on his discharge day, which all seven of them were there for. They took a day off of their post to see him discharged and congratulate him. They really are brothers of the heart*

Commenting this to maybe clear some confusion. The subtitles on BTSs MVs are always correct (maybe in some old old old songs there aren’t gonna be any) but subtitles in fanmade compilations or live performances are mostly not correct or not there, only if you search for it, like “BTS MAMA live 2018 with english subtitles”. So when you guys react to music videos be sure to put on subtitles and maybe pay attention to the lyrics and meaning if you are up for it, definitely one of the core experiences with BTS, they are truly artists. The live videos, there are many many channels that give you correct subtitles, it’s easy to look it up :) So good luck on the habit hole guys ❤

Thank you for your nice intro for new viewers of you guys. That's me. New to you. You were so nice I subscribed even before I listened to your reaction. I read through your comments. I looked through your videos to find your history of BTS viewing. And you're brand new. Here is a back story to this song. I saw them debut this song on The Jimmy Fallon show on February 24, 20. I just happened to be watching that night. BTS had been in New York several days filming at different sites with Jimmy Fallon to be shown on The Tonight Show. They filmed on the subway and at a deli and here in Grand Central Station in New York City. BTS was premiering this song from their album brand new album "7". They were embarking on their biggest worldwide concert tour. They had worked so hard on this very difficult choreography. I had never heard of them before. But being from a musical theatre background, I knew what it took to pull off a perfect performance of this Magnificent Masterpiece. There is no official NBC video of this as it was copyrighted. But luckily, a fan taped it on her TV. And the tape of it is viable and watchable. Know this. To get a perfect perforation they taped and performed the song "all out" 3 or 4 times. So when some fell to the floor exhausted, it was because they had 0 energy kept in their bodies. I lived them so much I got on RUclips that very night and found out all I could. Every day or night since then I have consumed BTS content. Because there are 11 years of content to watch!!! A few days after this performance they were called into a meeting and told their concert was cancelled. They were shocked and devastated!! Look at tat date. Covid shut the world down. They tried to reschedule it again, not knowing the pandemic would keep going and going. So....they Never got to perform this amazing song and choreography for a Live audience. Until.......well that's another story that happened years later in their history. But you are too new to hear that story. I challenge you. You have barely touched the surface of this Number 1 group in the world. I challenge you to do a Deep Dive. A great way to start is an introduction to the members. Find and watch the documentary "A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7". It's kind of long. But we will watch it with you to hear your reaction to their amazing story. Enjoy your BTS journey. It was nice to meet you today. FYI. I had many typos or wrong words. I corrected them many times, but for some reason, RUclips never would save my edits. So I didn't say I lived them. I said i loved them.

Recommend both as they are very cool to watch. ❣BTS “On” Kinetic Manifesto Film MV. There’s a reason it has over 600 million views. Especially the choreography this is the one of the most spectacularly amazing, as well as the vocals & rap from the individual members, while seeing the amazingly phenomenal, absolutely breathtakingly outstanding performance choreographed dance as well as all the backup dancers with marching band, while reading the lyric translation, you’ll realize that this song is ultimately in reality about BTS never giving up against all odds, but even more encouraging army to do the same saying that they will be there to support all the way throughout! Unbelievably this was written and released at end of 2019 before the pandemic fully happened. they even were as i mentioned in US for awhile aside from preparing to perform at the Grammys so did their dance practices in LA as well, with the actual dancers from The Lab. Sienna Lalou who was also involved with ❣️Jimin’s equally spectacular choreography in his must see song “Set Me Free Pt.2”, along with The Lab dancers actually performed in this “On” Kinetic Manifesto MV filmed in LA at I believe a reservoir damn, other army can be more specific: but it fits well, emphasizing & showing off the performance that much more! This song meant so much to so many army during the pandemic, giving them so much support! The BTS On MV takes the song into a way more deep jungian phycological interpretation which is indeed is helpful even necessary for the MV, but it just didn’t hit as deep, since it’s more introspective , as the amazingly choreographed performance piece, that not only talked about BTS inner struggles but seemingly emphasized more so their support for army being with us to endure whatever comes, also was filmed so amazingly well seeing the dance and the choreography at all angles, as well as while watching them dance while reading the lyrics just had way way more impact! You’ll see what I mean! 👍🙏🙌😍🔥🔥

If you guys like lyrics then turn on the lyrics. They are usually meaningful. RM talks about how he used to write poetry and his lyrics are really clever. Some of it can go over your head if you don't understand the Korean references, in which case you can check out the explanation videos. There are some great people who have deciphered their lyrics and can tell you all the word play that just blows your mind. They are all song writers and contribute to the songs melodies and lyrics. On is about confronting your shadow, the dark side of yourself - bring the pain on. It's scary but must be done to truly accept and love yourself. This is a part of a whole concept based on carl jung's psychological analysis of one's personality.
The Lab were the dancers and the girl who is shown first is the cheorographer. She was like 19 or something at the time. UCLA was the marching band I think.

Just so you know, it's mostly useless to read comments under their MVs because they're usually random comments for the algorithm. ARMY does that all the time because we're afraid that our views won't be counted and stuff like that. You can watch Boracity's "Why the Industry is terrified of BTS" video essay if you're curious about why exactly. It's not too long, with a voice-over and is well-researched!
I'm glad that you're pointing out their great synchronicity and rythm, although they are musicians. All of them produce, compose and write but they also play instruments. For example, Jin plays the guitar, SUGA plays the piano and the guitar, RM now learn the saxophone in the military, V used to play the saxophone and the trumpet and JK plays the guitar and the drums. Not sure about j-hope and Jimin though. And besides that they also like to learn other instruments but don't have the same skill with them
Also, the group of dancers is called The Lab. They are extremely talented. Consider that anyone working with BTS is always worth checking out!
For the Rap Line thing...only 3 of them are rappers (RM, SUGA and j-hope). Although JK is a sub-rapper since he used to rap in their early days and records all their guides, including the rappers' parts. J-hope also contributes to vocals in some songs. RM and SUGA are mainly rappers, although they did work a lot on their vocals which shows in their latest works (D-Day for SUGA, Indigo and RPWP for RM). The others - Jin, Jimin and V - are vocalists and don't rap in general
RM and SUGA both started rapping, songwriting, and producing at 13 (don't know if it's Korean or Global age). They were both in the underground hiphop scene and RM was quite renowned for his age. SUGA was producing "professionally" at the age of 16 (he was basically working for nothing - getting completely ripped off). J-hope only started rapping after he became a trainee (he was a really good street dancer and won competitions) but showed a lot of talent and honed his skills along the other trainees. He learned to write and produce quickly and has been on par with RM and SUGA for a while now - even though he has less experience.
They were extremely lucky with their vocalists as well. They scouted Jin on the street for his looks only (he didn't sing or dance at all) and discovered a gem just waiting to be polished - a silver voice. Jimin was a top contemporary dancer student and the label wanted him to rap but SUGA convinced them to let him sing and they discovered his unique and wonderful voice that bring a lot to the variety of voices of the group and make BTS stand out. V was just a regular teenager that had a lot of talent in many fields but didn't even intended to audition - he just went to support his friend - but BigHit gave him a chance and discovered his beautiful soulful baritone. And JK participated in a singing competition and was scouted by 7 different companies (6 of them being much bigger than BigHit) but JK chose the small almost bankrupt BigHit only because he saw RM perform and fell for him, haha. That's how they discovered a jack of all trades with perfect pitch
About the military, they only started their military service in 2022-2023 - the last 4 joined in December 2023. It's 18 months but SUGA's is longer (21 months) since he's a social worker. He had an accident when he was a trainee that ruined his shoulder. He got surgery in 2020 but was judged inept to do a regular service. Jin was released on June 12th and j-hope will be released in October. The rest will be released in June 2025
So, to answer your question, they have no tie to the military. It's just mandatory for Korean men. This was shot in 2020 - 2 years before Jin joined. They aren't allowed to make new content while being in the military so they worked extremely hard to make content before enlisting so they could still release content for ARMY

These guys have been really good at turning on subtitles in the past. A lot of these reaction videos are filmed in 1 sitting and then released throughout the week. The J-Hope react video and this 1 were filmed on the same day and it looks like they just forgot to turn them on that day. I recommend & know you’ll enjoy watching, when you get a chance to also see from BTS: 🔥❣Jimin “Set Me Free Pt.2” MV, (turn cc on for the ever so important, meaningful eng subs), from his first solo FACE album, so you can see some of the similarities, from BTS On Kinetic Manifesto MV. Since Jimin himself made a point to go specifically to LA, in the US, to use the same choir. Also had Sienna, the same choreographer, be involved with the choreo for his song along with another & even his own input! Also even used “going insane to stay the same” similar lyrics to this song. You’ll be blown away with the spectacularly amazing dancing of so many all in sync as well as Jimin’s own dancing, his vocals, the lyrics he wrote, & the epic music he wrote. Jimin was hands on in the production as well. even involved with the set design for the MV, which was his idea.👍🙏❤‍🔥🐥😍🔥🔥

You are ALWAYS being told in your videos to TURN ON THE CLOSE CAPTIONS but you never listen. Feels like you're really not interested in understanding the meaning of their songs. I don't know. I find it weird that you watch it like this. Coz the normal and usual way of watching is you TURN ON the CC if it's not in english, be it MV, Movie, TV Series, etc. Otherwise, how will you be able to understand it right? You SHOULD turn on the CC next time. Coz if you still don't, what's the point of reacting to a video that you don't understand. Unless, you're doin this just for the views.

  • @NanciBK

What is a musician? How do you define that term?
BTS members play instruments, compose, are songwriters, produce, sing and rap as well as dance. Their musicality is undeniable. Every one of them has written, composed and produced their music. Multiple members play multiple instruments. They are not a slicky produced product. They came together under a broke label as their only group, and they carried that label to the top. Their label is now the biggest label in S Korea, and BTS are carrying their whole industry on their backs. They are not famous because they are cute or because they are a marketed boy band package. They are famous because of the depth of their music and lyricism and character. Their subject matter is real and raw and courageously vulnerable. Their lyrics are being studied in colleges around the world. Some of their lyrics were put in the S Korean Hangeul Museum as a beautiful example Korean poetry.
In case you are not aware, they are not *just* the biggest Korean group, nor the biggest "boy band" - they are the biggest musical group/band in the world and have been for years. They fill the biggest stadiums in the world like the biggest touring bands, while also topping the charts and competing with the likes of Beyonce, Drake and Taylor - all with no Western radio play and almost none of their music in English. They didn't win that kind of following just on catchy tunes and good looks.

Hi guys, do you turn on the subtitles but we just can’t see them? It would be helpful to point that out in the beginning of the video. If they’re not turned on, then please do. BTS’ lyrics are a big component of their music. EDIT: However if the captions say ‘auto generated’ they should be left/turned off. Most BTS & members MVs thankfully do come with subtitles.
