I love this guy, he really changed education for me.. now i sleep in chemistry waiting the class to end to go home and watch a video that actually makes me understand.
I had pretty much given up on math before I found Khan Academy. Brought me back on track and next year I'll start my education in astronomy. Math isn't an obstacle anymore, it's a challenge.
Yeah, I don't see it that way, but his voice is just amazing, and when I hear it, I feel that this guy is gonna teach me math/physics and I'm gonna master it!
As a senior citizen taking Algebra in college, let me say, I would not have succeeded in my last two Algebra classes were it not for Khan Academy! I LOVE Sal! I can *understand* Sal!
One key factor of Khan's effectiveness, apart from his superior knowledge, is how his voice sounds patient and caring on his videos. He stands out from among the hundreds of youtube teachers out there. Well done mate! Im re-learning math again and loving it
Minute 12:26 is exactly what my first grade teacher did with two of us in 1971 and exactly why a community library was born in Consejo, Coroza, Belizel in 2008.❤❤ God bless Miss Etta Mae Beaver and her unique ways of teaching us to teach others with love.
One of the best TED talks ever - until we help our students master what they are learning, we'll continue to promote students who are just average in their education when they could be masters. Thank you so much for this phenomenal talk, Mr. Khan!
absolutely brilliant. I actually stumbled upon Khan academy last year when I started nursing school. It is the best thing ever. I wish my kids school would start this.
I love Khan academy. I'm an engineer now, but due to some scheduling conflicts back in high school, I never got to take trig. I was taking physics, the teacher also taught calc, and he waived the trig requirement since I knew the basics from physics. Needless to say, I had a lot of holes in my math knowledge and Khan academy did wonders in filling those.
I was someone who dodged out of math study because I was labeled as learning disabled (Aspergers in reality). I ended up using Khan Academy to get through my math upgrade when I went back to high school. I can say enough good things about Mr. Khan!
I have known about the Kahn Academy for some time and have appreciated it's approach to self paced learning; but didn't realize the extend to which they have implemented monitoring and tracking of student participation. I spent much of my career teaching technical topics and developing technical personnel and intuitively used some of these ideas and fully appreciate them. The student monitoring techniques development was teacher driven - and as such - I believe any teacher would love to implement this approach to learning with their students!! Personally - I think it should be implemented in all public education - pre-school thru PhD !!
Really awesome gyu. I just love Khan academy and it's content . Everything that he said was directly applicable to me. I took maths as my subject in class 11 12 (India) . But even after I completed my 11 I felt like I was not good enough. Then I started using Khan academy and filled my previous gaps of basic algebra , trigonometry etc. And after that things started getting interesting and easy. Not only that it even helped me with other new topics. It was not as if my teachers weren't good or I didn't like the subject but all those gaps in my previous classes held me back. So thank you for helping me Khan academy.
Statistically home schooled children do better on standardized tests. You are right that if the parents are not intelligent enough to teach, then they should not. As to integration into a social scene, that is where sports teams, clubs, volunteer initiatives etc come into play. My daughter takes piano, soccer and is bilingual; I have a good education and if I had the means to, I could home school her to an ivy league education. Its more the unavailability of the parents that dont make it viable.
Khan academy is what we need to be moving towards as educators. Mr.Khan contact me when you wish to add bilingual learning to your academy. We will be talking for days....be prepared.
Quarantine forced school to do this. And immediately, I rediscovered the old spark I had with chemistry and physics. It’s been 7 years since this video was uploaded on RUclips and only now I’m seeing it’s effect and I love it. I wish we can keep it this way.
I can't agree that homeschooling is the best, many adults don't have a working knowledge of many of the advanced topics taught in highschool (or its equivalent). Not only will the education fall short, but the socialization aspect of school is quite important. I'm not saying that the school system is efficient- far from it. I haven't met a socially well-adjusted homeschooled person, though, and I've been friends with more than a couple. And it makes their life in college quite overwhelming imo
I think he was a bit dazzled by the response of the audience and by the fact that he went from 'making videos for his cousins' to 'impressing Bill fucking Gates'. I just love how normal Sal Khan really is.
Found this reading a piece about Bill Gates' fav Ted Talks! I've always wanted to do sth like this! Thanks, Salman, an great job with the Khan Academy!
Future of education is right ,I have a feeling school base isn't going to based on understanding a subject ,it's going to be based on ow fast you can learn it.
Also, this is all well and good for the average student, but what about the places where the education gap is the worst and kids don't have internet access at home? What are we doing to make sure every kid in this country has consistent internet access?
Exactly what I'm doing. Have gotten sooo tired of doing the lecture thing... now spend classtime doing relevant stuff. But we use Blackboard and it sucks.
*big sip from unsee juice...* Seriously I read a comment on reddit about how much he [the guy who wrote the comment] is attracted to Grant Sanderson. Like seriously guys please stop.
I really think in 5-10 years time this will be recognised as an official academic institute that certifies people. And the world will see how much traditional Universities were working more on the lines of knowledge prevention than actual education.
my current opinion is indifferent, though i want to see schools incorperate things that they can do now that they couldn't do 5 years ago into their learning. i mean almost every student has a smart phone, but instead of utilizing that device you ban them from being used during school hours? that doesn't seem correct. It made sense back when phones were only used for calls and texts but now they are powerful devices that can be used for education.
It bothers me that the very intelligent among our younger generations go to be hedge fund managers. I wish more would go into education, engineering, and science where they could be of great help.
...Not everyone has Smart Phones, not everyone can be trusted to use them responsibly. Education still needs a lot of work in the West, to avoid growing into a disgusting, pressured, test-ridden experience that occurs in the East, or into something anarchistic and trivial. However, I don't believe phones should be fundamental in learning. I would agree with computers, but phones are too hard to monitor and cross certain personal boundaries for students.
I love this guy, he really changed education for me.. now i sleep in chemistry waiting the class to end to go home and watch a video that actually makes me understand.
+pyziked SCHOOL STATUS: WRECKED.
Why not just tell that teacher about what you do and change education for him/her as well :D
I had pretty much given up on math before I found Khan Academy. Brought me back on track and next year I'll start my education in astronomy. Math isn't an obstacle anymore, it's a challenge.
Erika Lindberg where are you now
Same! Although I might not go into astronomy for a while.
Erika where are you now
Just his voice alone is associated with pure knowledge for me!
Yeah, I don't see it that way, but his voice is just amazing, and when I hear it, I feel that this guy is gonna teach me math/physics and I'm gonna master it!
LMFAO no he isn't. You are all paid commenters as usual.
Actually, I found his voice to be very irritating with the "and, and, and" almost like a stuttering or stammering.
#respect for Mr Khan...you are a gem!
Ankit, just look at khanacadamey.... its way better than this TED video.
rajesh rao bhai I am already a regular at Khanacademy for the past 2 months! :-D
As a senior citizen taking Algebra in college, let me say, I would not have succeeded in my last two Algebra classes were it not for Khan Academy! I LOVE Sal! I can *understand* Sal!
Oh sure, SALly.
He taught me how to factor and helped me pass my algebra test in 9th grade.
Sal is AWESOME.

Thank you, Salman Khan. You have changed my life. You are my hero.
@10:19 Oh my god, it's like the skill tree in a role-playing game!
Life is basically an rpg game, everyone taking their own perks and exploring the map until its game over
Such an inspiration. This man is a big part of why I went into the field of education.
Khan is a true american hero, he helps me understand ap chem and ap calc.
I was someone who dodged out of math study because I was labeled as learning disabled (Aspergers in reality). I ended up using Khan Academy to get through my math upgrade when I went back to high school. I can say enough good things about Mr. Khan!
This made me want to have kids just to be able to tutor them using KhanAcademy. It's genius and should be applied everywhere.
Thanks Sal! You make learning fun
I want this in every school in the world, people making these in different languages and get this asap into every school possible!
If only more schools embraced this! This is MIND BLOWING!
Khan Academy allowed me to get caught up on two weeks of Calculus that I missed due to suicidal depression. Yay Kahn!
I totally agree the Indian education board must wrap the education around Khan academy who has actually done a fabulous job
he deserves an award for propelling Teaching to a different degree. Khan academy just works. Period.
Sal Kahn is the best!
Thank you, based Ray Romano clone.
Nah in all seriousness, this guy is super smart, talented, and innovative. He's doing a great job.
God bless you Salman Khan
Will go down in history as someone who helped learning revolutionize and meet the internet.

Please put this on Xbox 360 PS3 and Wii, I think gamers would play for Digital Trophies and bragging rights about their math skills.
chronicleone that is actually a brilliant idea. Stay BRILLIANT MY FRIEND!
I gave my niece your application of KG. I am happy that she doesn't need any another support

A decade later and this video keeps me speechless.

my thoughts exactly. this is a perfect example of how the education system SHOULD be.
Bravo man! Big work Mr. Kahn. Great use of the internet for humanism. I didn't quite map the humanism thing until this lecture. Well done - Sir!
Amazingly well done, i can clearly see the effort that has been put into this and that the his true future potential

ikr Khan is so useful
This is the man responsible for the 'Indian guy on youtube' stereotype.

You have given me real hope!!
this is the future of education
Every teacher should be taught to talk humbly like him 😊
Amazing! such a great video. thanks a lot for your great work.
This is exactly how I learn, it applies directly to me.
Truly refreshing.
I think he was a bit dazzled by the response of the audience and by the fact that he went from 'making videos for his cousins' to 'impressing Bill fucking Gates'. I just love how normal Sal Khan really is.
I LOVE Khan Academy. It's helped me so much!
And I'm still going to like it again.
Very intelligent man.

It's a Shame that he has to share name with A Trerrible Actor
It is actually a shame that the parents of the terrible actor named their kid the same as this great man!
