    I clicked this video thinking it's Salman Khan from Bollywood speaking at TED, but it turns out this guy is much bigger hero than Salman Khan , he's REAL life Hero , not the fake REEL life HERO :).

      sapbwguru Turns out, the bwood Salman is rather a villain. He has his reach in the underworld and has committed numerous crimes, always slipping away from the hands of law. He belongs in jail.

      +Don the first I found it when I was 33, I was very embarrassed when I realized I was at about an 8th grade math level. I could barely divide or multiply fractions until I watched one of his videos, I didn't fully understand it because my teachers never really explained what was going on, just how to do it. You guys in the new generation should count yourselves lucky for having a source of education like this. Good luck.

    Khan saved me. Literally, I could sit down and actually learn what I need to, and not move at an awkward, sometimes fast, sometimes slow pace. I could learn the same information more effectively from 4 hours of khan academy, as oppose to 7 hours of school. I wish teachers here would open their eyes. They wonder why some things don't 'click' with some students. Mr.Khan's analogies and explanation of what happens in the classroom is on point. Sincerely, a freshman who is sick of lectures and tests

      Sad to say, I have many-many-many students that I talk to and see that have no interest in school. If it ain't about music/video/entertainment/videogames or the latest social trend, they seem to not respect it. Also, unless your in the know, you do not get that admins., county, and country are at odds with what is supposed to happen in the classroom.

    I'm really wondering what are thinking those people that disliked this video, seriously. This is probably one of the most important and potential change in humankind's history. Think of it for a second. Classes have mostly always been taught the same way since many centuries, evolving on scale but not so much on approach.
    Education can now be accessible to almost everyone for free but not just that, it is now way more EFFICIENT and fun (thanks to Sal and his team)! What is not to love here?

  • @conradgarcia4850
    @conradgarcia4850 8 лет назад +54

    Joking aside, Sal Khan is definitely one of the most important academic figures of this century. He, along with Numberphile, mathantics and other math videos, made math fun again. He also single handedly exposed the outdated pedagogical framework of traditional teachers. His ideas surely aren't original for informal learning and constructivist strategies are already conceptualized before, but he applied it to every subject not just ESL but every subject and he did using the most effective medium nowadays, the internet. Great job Sal. For someone whose initial intention was to only tutor his nephew, you really came a freakin long, long way.

    I wonder ifpeople just dislike videos for no reason because if there was a video about curing cancer and saving a bunch of dogs from a burning skyscraper while simultaneously giving $1000000000 to each continent in the world and ending every war and producing world peace there would still be 100 dislikes

      If you take a large enough sample size, there will be people that do not like something, simple as that.
      Surely, there's people that just dislike for the hell of it but even if you had a video like you described, given a large enough sample size there would still be people that genuinely dislike it.
      Out of 4.5 million people that watched this video, 700 actively chose to dislike it. That's 0.015% .
      Aka nothing

    • @KingDragon2722
      @KingDragon2722 8 лет назад +18

      Alright, I'll tell you how it works: Someone looks at the video and thinks "LUL NO DISLIKES, I BETTER DISLIKE HAHA". That's how a video gets his first dislike. After that, someone comes across and thinks "W0W ONLY 1 DISLIKE, HAHA NOW IT'S 2". That's pretty much how those videos get dislikes.

I LOVE that my sons can get their lectures from Sal and it allows me to then tutor them only on little concepts here and there that they might be having trouble with. This tool has improved our learning experience over and over again. I have been so overjoyed to actually watch my son learn these things and his confidence has been steadily building since he's feeling like he's in control of his own learning. It's awesome!

    Wow innovation brought to you by the private sector and not by government. How shocking ...

    • @culturedesi
      @culturedesi 9 лет назад +19

      this is not private sector bringing innovation neither is it markets producing innovation. this is only because there is someone who doesnt think about provide and neither car are money. But does the job because of the value it provides to society. he is running a non for profit organisations. SO this has nothing to do with private sector or SO CALLED MARKET FORCES

    • @WashingtonMonster86
      @WashingtonMonster86 9 лет назад +8

      A free individual discovering a new technology, and choosing to market this new technology at only the expense of private funds... hmm... Not private sector I guess...
      Also, I love how you act as if market forces are some mythical folk tale. Get real buddy.

      WashingtonMonster86 If you want to put it that way, you're technically not wrong, but it's a 501(c)(3) whose funding is based on philanthropy from well-known philanthropic organizations, not monetary gain or self-interest, or anything REMOTELY capitalistic. Google and Bill Gates are not "investing" in it; they're funding it to promote social well-being, expecting (and receiving) no money in return.

    • @WashingtonMonster86
      @WashingtonMonster86 9 лет назад +3

      Capitalism is voluntary, philanthropy is voluntary. 501c3 corporations give incentive to the wealthy ( or who ever) to donate funds and receive a tax credit in return.
      Once again this is a service brought to you by the voluntary efforts of a few individuals as opposed to a government bureaucracy deriving the funds through taxation.

    • @ikorack
      @ikorack 9 лет назад +3

      WashingtonMonster86 Wouldn't a tax credit be a government based incentive?

    • @jayzap
      @jayzap 9 лет назад +26

      ***** I'll actually be one to say that Salman's intense enthusiasm for the landscape of mathematics (which as a tutor i equally share) is what makes the commentary so enticing to watch, not that the voice doesn't contribute, but it is not a major part in the addictiveness of this videos.

  • @Crosshill
    @Crosshill 10 лет назад +6

    I quite enjoyed the Chemistry videos, especially once Sal's drawing abilities and software improved. It's nice knowing that i got to experience the joy of discovery in my sofa before school will later botch the introduction. Those moments are quite valuable, and too often lost.
    It's super helpful for math as well, considering how bare-bones and dead my classes currently are

    Hahha if Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz were still alive they would probably argue over who would teach calculus on RUclips, Isaac Newton would say that the derivative is denoted by f'(x), Leibniz would say that it's dy/dx :D
