+Don the first I found it when I was 33, I was very embarrassed when I realized I was at about an 8th grade math level. I could barely divide or multiply fractions until I watched one of his videos, I didn't fully understand it because my teachers never really explained what was going on, just how to do it. You guys in the new generation should count yourselves lucky for having a source of education like this. Good luck.
I'm right there with you! Khan Academy is paying off for me. Slowly, but certainly. I'm nearly 40 and going back into school, so this is a great help. Hope you're doing well in school.
Most famous quotes of all time: "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" - Gandhi "The more u learn, the more u realise how less u know" - Einstein "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" - Neil A "Let me pick a different color" - Sal Khan
He is a real savior. I once was the kid who struggled with Calculus, and now I’m a PhD student in mathematics. Thank you Sal for helping me when I my professors didn’t
Khan saved me. Literally, I could sit down and actually learn what I need to, and not move at an awkward, sometimes fast, sometimes slow pace. I could learn the same information more effectively from 4 hours of khan academy, as oppose to 7 hours of school. I wish teachers here would open their eyes. They wonder why some things don't 'click' with some students. Mr.Khan's analogies and explanation of what happens in the classroom is on point. Sincerely, a freshman who is sick of lectures and tests
Sad to say, I have many-many-many students that I talk to and see that have no interest in school. If it ain't about music/video/entertainment/videogames or the latest social trend, they seem to not respect it. Also, unless your in the know, you do not get that admins., county, and country are at odds with what is supposed to happen in the classroom.
A word from the geniuses of our time. People think back to the Renaissance and remember Leonardo da Vinci, they remember Thomas Edison and Rockefeller from the Industrial revolution, but the people of the future will look back to today and remember Salman Khan.
I'm really wondering what are thinking those people that disliked this video, seriously. This is probably one of the most important and potential change in humankind's history. Think of it for a second. Classes have mostly always been taught the same way since many centuries, evolving on scale but not so much on approach. Education can now be accessible to almost everyone for free but not just that, it is now way more EFFICIENT and fun (thanks to Sal and his team)! What is not to love here?
Joking aside, Sal Khan is definitely one of the most important academic figures of this century. He, along with Numberphile, mathantics and other math videos, made math fun again. He also single handedly exposed the outdated pedagogical framework of traditional teachers. His ideas surely aren't original for informal learning and constructivist strategies are already conceptualized before, but he applied it to every subject not just ESL but every subject and he did using the most effective medium nowadays, the internet. Great job Sal. For someone whose initial intention was to only tutor his nephew, you really came a freakin long, long way.
I love when watching Khan academy math videos, when he's drawing something he's like, "So if I have a triangle that looks like this.....that looks like thiiiissss....A triangle that looks liiiiike...like this... "
I wonder ifpeople just dislike videos for no reason because if there was a video about curing cancer and saving a bunch of dogs from a burning skyscraper while simultaneously giving $1000000000 to each continent in the world and ending every war and producing world peace there would still be 100 dislikes
If you take a large enough sample size, there will be people that do not like something, simple as that. Surely, there's people that just dislike for the hell of it but even if you had a video like you described, given a large enough sample size there would still be people that genuinely dislike it. Out of 4.5 million people that watched this video, 700 actively chose to dislike it. That's 0.015% . Aka nothing
Alright, I'll tell you how it works: Someone looks at the video and thinks "LUL NO DISLIKES, I BETTER DISLIKE HAHA". That's how a video gets his first dislike. After that, someone comes across and thinks "W0W ONLY 1 DISLIKE, HAHA NOW IT'S 2". That's pretty much how those videos get dislikes.
Helping here in South Africa, you are honestly amazing. Since i started with khan academy in grade 8 (2011) i have been getting A's for maths. I am now in grade 11 and so thankful for your website and that i don't have to pay anything!
I'm using Khan Academy in our homeschool and I have been for a little while. I have to say... I LOVE that my sons can get their lectures from Sal and it allows me to then tutor them only on little concepts here and there that they might be having trouble with. This tool has improved our learning experience over and over again. I have been so overjoyed to actually watch my son learn these things and his confidence has been steadily building since he's feeling like he's in control of his own learning. It's awesome!
Salman, your videos turned on lights that school failed to turn on for me 40 years ago. Thank you. I aced my entrance exams for nursing and I'm now an undergraduate student nurse here in the UK. Bless your intellect and generosity. Jonathan.
Who ever reads this, I'm living proof that you can be 25 years old or older and still go to University, all thanks to Khan Academy :). I am currently doing my degree in chemistry.

+iloveicecream127 Because every TED talk is a lot of pie in the sky, we're changing the world, back patting nonsense, and 4 years down the line Kahn Academy is the same thing it was 4 years ago, except now you have to log in with Google or Facebook. The content has barely progressed, and remains at the most basic level. Really, there's nothing in Kahn Academy you couldn't have gotten from a book decades ago.

If only my maths teacher watched this... Khan is one of the most influential people living nowadays because he recognizes that education is a human right, and that everyone learns at different paces. He sure changed my life. I just wish he could change my school too.
He is my biggest inspiration, I learnt so much from him... One day when i become famous, He will definitely be the person i'll give thanks to (other than God but then again, God isn't human)
Such a simple idea can make such a big difference in education. The fact that Kahn wants to expand and share this system with so many more, makes it even more adventurious! He will be able to reach so many more children and make their lifes so much more easier.
I am so happy to have found these videos my daughter switched schools mid semester and this will help her catch up and maybe even surpass her peers! I cannot wait to see that smile that says she understands what she is working on and the pride she gets when she brings home A's

This just isn't feasible much of the time, because many of the books professors force students to buy have access codes in order to complete the coursework online. You literally have to buy the book in order to complete the course. It's utter crap to be honest.
Salman Khan's 2011 TED talk about Khan Academy - it's origins, it's progress at that time... this is a very inspiring talk, for such an awesome project! Next I'd love to see a neat summary of the progress/developments made since 2011? ;-)
***** he'd have to learn foreign languages lol i think that the reason behind his success is his way of teaching, he makes shit simple! excuse the language ..
He doesn't do all the work himself anymore, a bunch of people help out. I guess what we'd need is a good language teacher that is sufficiently interested in helping with the cause...
yeah but he's still doing all the video's that's my point... all im saying that if u want a foreign language, it wont make much difference to search the web and find who ever..
From India, watching this video again after 4 years.I know sal will never read this comment, but thanks for 4 years of help.Absolutely admire you,you are the best

even better, go to their website, the practice question is awsome
This just isn't feasible much of the time, because many of the books professors force students to buy have access codes in order to complete the coursework online. You literally have to buy the book in order to complete the course. It's utter crap to be honest.
I really like this guy
So excited to see where education is heading with visionaries like Salmon Khan.
Brilliant education model. I wish I had been brought up this way... but I'm lucky enough to be able to benefit from it throughout university.
This guy is a genius!
Salmon can talk at Ted?
Btw khan academy is AMAZING!
Salman Khan's 2011 TED talk about Khan Academy - it's origins, it's progress at that time... this is a very inspiring talk, for such an awesome project!
Next I'd love to see a neat summary of the progress/developments made since 2011? ;-)
Anneke van der Merwe here's a TED talk giving a sense of the background, uses and potential of Khan Academy.
I wish they would add some courses on foreign languages. :-)
This man has truly revolutionized education. I am using his system for my own personal gratification, and it is nice to hear the same voice in every single video like having the same teacher for every subject. Everyone needs to know about this and have the opportunity to take advantage of it.
20:10 - "I think you just got a glimpse of the future of education"
Me attending college online during COVID: yup
I love his concepts, he's awesome! ♡
Exactly, gaps in your foundation are like missing bricks in a building
I love this combo Technology + Education.
Khan Academy is ❤️
This way of teaching might just be the normal way of learning soon.
Sal Khan, you are the light in darkness, thanks for providing us Khan Academy.
Sal Khan for president
