Harket has been estimated as having a 5 Octave voice (he admits he never got it tested), so he can sound dramatically different if he chooses. The band have a lot of very Rock sounding tracks and albums in their history, where the vocals are equally impressive yet different...

English isn't my first language but it sounded to me as if summer was a metaphor to their youth in the band and the song transformed the happy and carefree vibe of the 80s into melancholy in turn of the millennium.

You are right. The song was written especially for their first live performance after four years apart, the Nobel Peace Concert in 1998. It was ment as an explanation to the audience about what happened to the band, and why they been away from the public for so long.

@@ahkkariq7406 wow, thanks so much for that explanation! Appreciate it. I've just found them. I didn't know they'd done anything other than Take On Me, which I will ALWAYS LOVE! I'm their age, but I guess the powers that be, in the states, didn't appreciate them. What a damn shame! They should have sooo many hit songs...#1, at that! Awesome music & Päl should be up there as one the the guitar greats! They got effed in our country, imo! I'd have been a HUGE fan...but I am now! That's a once in a generation voice! Gives me goosebumps! & of course, still very nice to look at! 🥴

      @@Diane-sx4ql
There are various explanations for what happened when the American music industry turned its back on the band. They themselves say that it was a matter of time. They had to choose between spending more time in the US to build up a fan base, or to include Europe as well. Since they were European, and at the very start of their career, they naturally chose Europe, since they are Norwegian, and it is closer to home.
I'm Norwegian, and was 18 when they broke through. I was a big fan in the early years. Later I dropped out, but rediscovered the band a couple of years ago. I have spent a lot of time familiarizing myself with not only the music, but also the band's history. I think there is more behind it in the form of the band not being willing to allow themselves to be corrupted, but of course I can not know for sure. It would have cost the American music industry little to give the next singles a little more attention, and thus better sales precisely because Take on me was so popular.
The band set a world record with 198 000 paying audiences at Rock in Rio in 1991, which was three times as much as other artists as Guns n' roses and George Michael. American music journalists wanted to give the band attention, but when they called home to the editors, everyone was told that it was out of the question to give the band any attention. The band was totally broken, but A-ha managed without the US. The only ones who lost out were potential American fans, unfortunately. Luckily, the music is still available, but many have lost the opportunity to experience a fantastic live band.
I wish you welcome into the very loyal fan base of a-ha. Here on RUclips, they have welcomed me very well. Matt Snider has reacted to the whole catalogue the last year, and in the comments a-ha fans have found a meeting place. Another reactor I recommend for a-ha is HBK Luke.

Morten's voice still impresses me. I don't think there are many even tenors in this world who can sing as clear as this man does, but it not just that and those highest notes, but his strenght on the lower notes and the rich and broad and yet open sound is quite magical... I'm not into men as I like women, but you have to give probs to some one who is actually good what he or she does, and this could be at least in Pop music be the best male voice ever.. the range is ridicilous.

I'm so glad that RUclips redirected me to your reaction video.
I had seen several done before, of this exact song, but in studio version and I have even suggested that they react to it again but on the live version.
I am an A-ha fan since they came on scene with their debut album "Hunting High and Low".
I own a first edition of their (probably) greatest hit, yes I own the infamous "Take on Me" version that was a flop in the UK and didn't sell much more than 500 copies.
At least that's what the British press said at the time.
I was hoping to see them live in Lisbon, at the "Rock in Rio" 2021, along with Duran Duran and the top portuguese band, but the covid pandemia made the organizers cancel the event.
Great reaction, it's the first time that I watch your channel and I am subscribing to it, I hit that like button too.
One last thing about this concert, it was described to be a phenomenal experience where 3 generations assisted this concert.
The mother who secretly watched the videos.
The teenage daughter who would buy all their posters and records, who later took the granddaughter to this concert.
    I hope that wasn't too confusing. 😂 😂

The studio version was the record , but the live version is the same length, you mentioned the drummer, when he was growing up he was an a-ha fan, I told his friends that one day he would play with a-ha, he has now been their drummer since 2010, he is also a music professor in a Norwegian music collage . that was the final show for five years,But they came back. Before covid hit they had just started a new world tour with opening night in my home city of Dublin . They still have 3 shows in the USA to come when covid is over.

This is being performed a little slower than the studio version. I imagine you have heard that by now as this reaction is a year old. However, my opinion is that studio version is considerably brighter in presentation than this is despite being a sad song about desperation at the end of a relationship. Also, the strings are much more pronounced on the studio recording. Anyway, another a-ha song worth reacting to is This Alone is Love. While it is from their third album way back in the 80s I believe it has much more of the characteristics of songs like this from their more recent material. In fact, the song is perhaps the first evidence, along with the title track from that album Stay on These Roads, that a-ha was moving in a more contemporary, less synth-pop direction. I enjoyed your reaction. Peace.

      How right you are.
Even though they really didn't pay much attention to that aspect of they're careers.
Morten was voted the worst dressed pop star of the 80s, even though I, as a fan, would try to imitate the way he'd appear in the music videos and magazines at the time.
He could have been voted the sexiest man on the planet too, but he never really cared about it.

Interesting things happened on either side of the first A-hiatus - Memorial Beach was, if not quite a "rock" album, at least sounding more like a fully-functioning self-contained band than anything they'd done before Minor Earth Major Sky was, if not a "goth" album, at least darker in tone (in a nice way) than any of the previous albums.
