Attack the source of the problem. landlords using housing as a investment! Homes for homes not investments! They have pushed prices of houses up over the last 20-30 years and not it’s just unsustainable.
We don't need "affordable housing". What is obvious, is that there is a dire need for public housing. Australia has to forget the old paradigm of "selling" the mugs something. They can't afford to buy, let alone to eat correctly. However, both major political parties have the same donors, so don't expect anything to change.
Ok, A) its NOT the government going as guarantor, its the Australian taxpayer - and they have not been consulted nor will they be and B) you've slipped past a little detail of this insane idea. Its open to Australians and permanent residents. So the AUSTRALIAN TAXPAYER will be coerced into backing someone who is not an Australian buy a home in Australia where we have a serious housing supply issue and an rtificially overinflated housing value market - this further raising housing prices, this further cutting out more AUSTRALIANS from purchasing their first homes and meanwhile, this idiot idea opens up the housing market to a lot of risk - that we the taxpayer will take the hit on, in several different ways, should the dodgy house of cards that is our housing market, finally either collapses, or at least, suffers a genuine correction to actual values. Either way, we get screwed over - so someone who can't afford a house here and who isn't even a CITIZEN, can get a leg up, on the backing of OUR MONEY. Am I the only person seeing the absolute absurdity of this????
Hmmm, is this really designed to help first home buyers, or is it a scheme to help out the property market, and more specifically the big banks who will be in trouble if house prices drop, and borrowers default with rising interest rates?
Do the government relizse that there is a building supplies shortage ATM, that's part of the reason for the inflation rate, and the shortage of trades workers, they need to fix the building regulations before starting another collapse of building companies, and the extra revenue in the budget is from commodities exports, iron ore and coal are set at $40 per tonne, LNG at $8 per gigajule, now look at the market price that they are receiving,
This will stop at the doors of the banks and mortgage brokers who probably won't lend if you don't have $100k income each applicant due to changes to the LVRs. Which is a good thing. But we will need better options than this. We need a Govt Bank like we had in the 1960s, we will need to have a conversation of whether a 30 year mortgage in an age if AI/dugital/retail dark stores/telehealth/ChatGPT erodes rungs in the job market making mortgages hard to hold. We need States to release cheap land and cheaper housing products sd o people don't have to hold their breath or divorce because 30 years of a Mortgage breaks them down. 15 year horizon for home ownership might be better option as will accessing superannuation earlier.
This is disgusting that we are at this point
Thus guaranteeing increased prices for housing… further inflating an already crazy market, well done government.
Home isn't a Home without at least 5 acres , a fancy box with electricity . hmmmpt
Then the housing prices will go up.
Why not just go on a building spree. Increase the supply and we won’t need any assistance from the government.
It's funny when Sky News covers American politics, they have like 30x more views.
Useless if you don't increase the number of homes.

Increase home ownership without increasing the number of homes, that's a miracle.

builders are collapsing , what are you doing about that . they are the people building homes
Who are they going to kick out of their homes to put these different people into them ?
Omg. This could be a disaster.

Permanent residents pay tax as well you know
@@dericofdorking yep, but they're not citizens. If they want to buy a piece of Australia, become an Australian, I don't think that's unfair.
If you want more people to own homes you need to either build more homes or get landlords to sell their homes, comprenende ?
Hmmm, is this really designed to help first home buyers, or is it a scheme to help out the property market, and more specifically the big banks who will be in trouble if house prices drop, and borrowers default with rising interest rates?
Wonderful it will determine who gets a home not increase the number of people who own homes.
A bit rich Labor talking about booby traps. They are masters at it. So blame last govt as long as you can.
Really only for people who have a job the peasants can suffer who do not have a job
Get a job!! It's not that hard..if you are not afraid of work. Lazy lazy people.
@TheRealSaintChester lol is that sarcasim? unemployed people shouldnt be able to buy a home but a factory worker making 45 k a year should
Can a non-binary birthing person apply?

The Voice and Albos hunger to become a Populist is more important than housing and cost of living by the looks of it.
🎉🎉🎉.
