- Mario Lanza sings Loris' aria ("Amor ti vieta") from Fedora by Umberto Giordano.
This clip is from the 1956 movie Serenade.
Lyrics:
Amor ti vieta di non amar.
La man tua lieve, che mi respinge,
cercava la stretta della mia man:
la tua pupilla esprime: T'amo
se il labbro dice: Non t'amero!
I second the motion.
Lanza held nothing back, every time he sang.
It's impossible to do that all the time, yet he did it. That made Lanza what he was.
I have heard many tenors perform this but when I clicked on this, Mario's beautiful interpretation brought me to near tears! Thank you for posting this!
MÁRIO ETERNO. Sua belíssima voz e sua magnífica interpretação serão eternas.
He was pure magic he was
A God given voice, there was never better, nor ever will be. I heard them all !

MÁRIO MAGNÍFICO SEMPRE.
!totalmente de acuerdo!
El mas grande!!!
It want be a another like a again what a voice
Вечно любимый!
Hey HeardThatSongBefore, Mario was very well trained, having been trained for well over a year by Rosati (who had trained Gigli) and also trained by Spadoni. Hollywood intervened in what was an upcoming and extremely promising operatic career. He was very unique to be sure, but not well trained is simply not accurate.
Estoy de acuerdo también.
Jose Carreras sang this with equal beauty to Lanza - both great.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The most beautiful (no, take that back) . God sang through him.
ГОЛОС И СЕРДЦЕ...! Марио БОГ ! ОБЫЧНО ПОКАЗЫВАЮТ ГОЛОСА...В НАШЕ ВРЕМЯ - ПЛОХОЙ ВОКАЛ...
This is one of the rare arias, where Lanza's tasteless "passion" suits fine.
Tasteless Passion???
@@aliaguerin1266 absolutely tastless manner of singing, overpassioned -- mauvais ton, to be short...
@@HammondDER lol what else are Italian tenors known for after Caruso? The restrained half voice fiortura of De Lucia?
@@darklord220 that's not funny (c)
@@darklord220 many of them were way better singers and artists than ML...
This is from the BBC Four website: Pappano's Classical Voices Episode 2 of 4 “Tenor”
Mario Lanza unlike any classic trained tenor before or since was genuinely successful as a pop star. “Because You’re Mine” was a million seller top ten hit in both Britain and the USA. Mario Lanza was the most famous tenor there ever was, bar none, and together with Enrico Caruso certainly the most influential.
Your comment is so true. I too have never been properly voice trained but have naturally big powerful yet beautiful natural tenor voice. When I sing, most people love it except few jealous trained ones (especially men) who have a pissed off grin in their faces. Like maestro Pavarotti, I cannot read music, but I learn the song with my ears.
These are the greatest talents… Let no one say otherwise .
Wow, what a self righteous comment on your part.
one of the greatest voices of all time, could have sung this better though with that gift
