    I was hoping you would take the chance and get out there for this video. Thanks to several of your previous videos, I have visited every place you just highlighted and many more spots along the way. So glad to see the damage was minimal. Here on the East coast and a bit south of you, I was out bike riding in bright sunshine during the storm. I got to experience Andrew and Wilma up close and personal so I’m never complacent about storms and always prepared. Hardly anyone is out there filming what a near miss looks like so I’m glad you took the time.

      We're glad you appreciate the videos, Bob. Definitely not our normal content... everything is super rushed, and basically just trying to get a somewhat acceptable video up as quickly as possible. Not a whole lot to see on the beaches, but people still like to see for themselves that everything is ok.

    Really appreciate you going out and giving updates like this. This puts a detailed perspective on how things really look down there. Relieved this area was not hit as bad as others Northwest. I realize business and home owners lay down roots in these areas knowing these things are always possible but it still tugs on you when something like this has the potential to rip apart your livelihood and home in a snap of a finger. I too am willing to take that risk and my wife and I hope to be property owners somewhere down there very soon! Just can't get enough of the area. Do you all have any idea what Clearwater beach looks like after Idalia? I follow a few FB pages and it looks about the same as St Pete but would love to hear your report as well! Thanks again.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write this thoughtful comment, James. You are right, anyone who runs a business or owns property down here is taking a risk, but it is still nerve wracking every time a storm blows through. It's a completely different (less stressful) feeling now that we just rent in the area and no longer own, but owning a home and a business would surely be a whole other level of stress.

    Thanks for making this video it actually made me homesick watching it. Even though I'm originally from Minnesota and that's where I live now but I spent 4 wonderful years in this area and I used to hang out at John's Pass a lot. I lived there from 1988 to 1992 and oh man things have changed so much since I was last there 29 years ago. I also used to work at the Mcdonald's in St. Pete Beach right off of gulf blvd that was my first job there. I also had gigs working the deep sea fishing boats at John's Pass too on and off. I also did a couple freelance gigs at the seafood festival they had there at John's Pass. Fun Fact I used to live on the beach in Treasure Island and I only lived on it for about a year maybe then we moved to another place called Paradise island blvd which wasn't very far away but anyways I was about 1/2 a mile from central avenue I think it was back then there was the fun center and Winn Dixie there. Anyways back in 1988 there was a tropical storm named Keith and it was a pretty bad storm and the storm surge I don't think was too bad but I do remember it leaving a 6ft gulley in the beach probably about 3/4 of a mile maybe I think it was close to the bilmar hotel there in Treasure Island. I just want to say that as a teen back then from 14 to 18 I had a blast living there and I do plan on going down there to visit this area again. Sorry for the long post but I have a lot of great memories living in the areas in the video. I also want to say that I'm glad that everyone is safe and there was really no damage from the storm.

    Could you do a video of beaches north of Mad Beach? The beach erosion is tremendous in Indian Rocks Beach, where we live... Half of the beach accesses are closed--the walkways end at 4-6 foot drops where sand used to be. I was surprised to see that the more southern beaches had come through relatively unscathed. Thanks for your informative well-done videos.

    Can you (Explorcation) or someone confirm the beach situation on Pass-a-grille. I spend a lot of time on the north end where the public beach starts. It looks like there was a lot of beach erosion. Was it high tide when you shot the video or was there a 10 - 15 yard loss of beach due to erosion?

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  9 месяцев назад +1

      It was almost exactly between high and low tide when I was filming in the Pass A Grille area. Definitely some erosion, but not sure of the significance.

    You really needed to look south of Caddy's on Sunset Beach. The beach and access are destroyed and there is unbelievable erosion. Hubbard's Marina at John's Pass Village was full of sand. You didn't go there when visiting the Village. The beaches are small because of a loss of sand and .any dunes were damaged.
