Hussain Sagar was constructed in 1563 by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah across a tributary of the Musi river. Hussain Shah Wali, the Kingdom's Master of Architecture, is honored by the lake's name. It is an artificial lake that receives water year-round from the Musi River via canals. Before Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar were constructed on the Musi River, Hussain Sagar served as Hyderabad's primary water supply.
