The best version of this ballet I've ever seen. I keep coming back after years, and I will always say: "bravo, Mr. Legris, you are the best spectre de l'arose💐💐💐💐💐💐👏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Agreed, He is truly outstanding! His fluidity is astonishing. After watching just about all the versions available, his version towers above everybody else. Claude is also a superb partner.
He is the best Rose I have seen. He is magnificent ! Naturally attuned to his feminine and masculine selves, he channels his inner rose, sensuous, a little wild, with tendrils waving like a Rose in the breeze ! He channels Nijinsky. Having watched all the Legris that is on youtube, and other dancers performing the Rose, he has become my favorite male dancer. He is now the artistic director of the Vienna ballet and has retired from performing. I wish some of his other roles, such as Onegin, were posted to watch !
Yes, agree @Marguerite. His exquisite arms. Beautiful! I keep coming back to watch him. He is retired now & looks so young here. It is easy see the influence of Nureyev’s instruction. 💕
Here am I once again falling in love with this gorgeous piece, this masterpiece. Manuel Legris, you are the Spectre de la Rose!❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 bravo!🌹💐
He is like a sculpture in movement, such beautiful counterpoints! I have seen it so many times, and I will always come back to see it. Manuel Legris, bravo! 💐🌹
An absolutely, utterly and completely mesmerizing Rose. Legris proves that less is more. His is a restrained, almost inward Rose, quite properly more botanical than animal. What a joy this is.
Couldn't agree more. This piece requires an utter sophistication and taste from dancers. Legris is more then likely the best of any contemporaries. The style and playful sensuality are so elusive here only a specifically gifted performer can pull that off. Manuel is just unbelieveable - only Plissetskaya have had such expressive arms. Not to mention his light but powerful jumps and fast tours which are only enhancing overall extatic impression of this exquisite (is the word) performance. Claude de Voulpian was lesser known soloist from Paris Opera ballet troupe but she is so well paired here. A shining example of the quality achieved in ballet training and performing by french school. Bravo!

Here I am again enjoying this beautiful jewel of a ballet. Mr Legris is superb, the best rose I have ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. Bravo bravo bravooo💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
I’m not exaggerating when I say, I must have watched this over 100 times. Ballet is just wild to me; It has to be the closest thing to super human you can be. How is this even possible? He looks like he’s floating! They both make every move look so effortless. Both are amazingly graceful. Wow. 🥹🩰
This is the most complete, longest version of the ballet that I have ever seen. I love this! The dancers' performances are sublime, and I especially enjoy the lengthy solos of the rose , with many jumps and different arm positions from past ballet history. The choreographer expresses the music extremely well. Thanks so much for posting this! I find it very touching and lovely.
Anche attorialita 'in questa pièce di balletto fra sogno e trasognamento chimerico del ballerino messaggero dell'esprit de joie della danza. Ottimo il senso del continuum dato alla pièce danzante.Molto bravi. BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO
hands like rose petals, Legris really brings to life the spirit of the rose. i also adore Soloviev's interpretation and Elena Evteyeva (some call her Yevteyeva) as the girl, she really captures her dreamy enchantment and blooming youth.
such a romantic, whimsical story. My favorite part is when the Rose kissed her head then leaped out the window, and when he sat on the floor and leaned back against the woman's knees. Mr Legris had my complete attention. I've seen many versions of this ballet, and I prefer his Rose costume, and his performance, the best. I also prefer this version because the Rose doesn't stand with his back to the audience once he's positioned behind the chair.
He really is the best I've seen in this role. Completely superior to nureyev and baryshnikov. He captures the spirit of the role perfectly and it never looks trivial or frivolous, unlike almost all other interpretations I've seen. I read that legris said he could not dance like nijinsky but he was being too modest. He is exceptional and I'd rather watch him than either of his more famous peers.
Baryshnikov is a little awkward in this role, not the best one for him ! I think that he tried to portrait Nijinsky, but he is too manly ! it does not matter, he had been so good in so many roles !
I thought Legris loked very young here if this is from 1990 that explains it -- that makes him 26ish -- very mature for his age -- from what I have read Legris captures the spirit of the rose that Fokine was trying to depict with his choreography. Fokine wrote" -The technique of the arms in this ballet completely differs from the strong, correct arm positions of old ballet. The arms (here) live, speak, sing, but they do not fulfill positions"- The arms have it not to mention his marvelous technique -- from what I can see the dancers from the POB are the best in this -- Manuel Legris, Matthias Heyman, Patrick Dupond -- all marvelous performances -- and those are only the ones on youtube.
