@aznshortiekim1 and @blueberry Keep in mind that if you keep a lot of air inside you body, it's impossible for you to sink! You will sink if you blow the air outside your body. Here are some tips: 1/ Try to float without making any movement. 2/ Don't try to use fastly your arms and legs to try floating. If you do so you will panic and be exhausted very fast. 3/ Everything is a question of breathing slowly while keeping air inside the body. 4/ Movement just help a little bit.
I had the same fear. Have someone there to help you who is a good swimmer, and use the shallow end. Practice by bobbing up and down vertically while holding on to the side wall--blow out air under water, take a deep breath when you come out. The flat blue boards work well when first floating (better than the skinny noodles, I think). To float you'll need to have you face in the water (if on stomach) or your ears in the water (if on back). That's a really important part. And then...relax.
@catbirdfeeder Your method seems to be good too. Just the results I have with my method (4 lessons (30minutes) and you can swim) are so crazy that I've decided to share it with everybody. But I also like your method and your comment.
Not sure if you still answer to comments on here, but I'm taking beginning swim lessons and I can float on my back really easily and even do strokes in that position. But I can't float on my front without my legs sinking, unless I'm really flutter kicking a lot. Most of my muscle mass is in my legs, so is that why?
The life aquatic is so trippy. But you can't help it that the water has a relaxing quality, or is it just the genre of music? LOL great vids though. I just need to perfect my kicks and remember terminology for my swim final.
i have a question pls reply, i can float like the video easily but my problem is a little bit weird evrytime i try to stand again its hard to get my feet down the bottom again maybe my legs are weak and it takes a while, esp in deep water, thats when i really panic becuz i feel like loss of balance and sinking and i end up getting water in the nose.can u teach me how to get my feet down a gain fast without panic(am quite afraid of water)
nope, this is not the second step....the second step is jumping up and down in the shallow end blowing bubbles, learning how hard to blow and growing more comfortable....the next step is holding onto the side and learning to kick and then using a kick board kick across the pool a lot, then, while holding onto the side kick with face in water and turn head whil kicking, and learn to blow bubbles while kicking...and now I'm tired of typing...
One question! I was trying to learn how to float. But the problem is I cant stay afloat at all. My whole body will sink when I was trying to stay afloat... So how? PS: Don't blame it on my weight, I'm weighted at 44kg only(underweight for my age)... I also afraid of the water so I cant really help it if i get panic easily before i try to relax...
@ahhongcheong1 If your legs sink, this is not the correct way! Look at the video Step 3 and Step 4. It's very important to keep your feet totally relax and close to the surface of the water while doing flutter kicks. If your feet go down, your "ass" ;-) will go down and it will be impossible to swim!
i will sink regardless tho. because i have a fear of drowning and everytime i go in the middle of a pool/ocean i sink down. so i fluster in the water because i cant relax. i always picture in my head that im gonna drown

Can you guys go to around 5' or 6ft part of the pool?
Floating is too scary for me, I'm afraid I might drown when I try it for the first time.
I try this often at my local pool and every time my legs sink and the deeper the water the deeeper they sink! but I do have artifical hips?
why everytime i try to float, my foot keep drowning, it touches the floor and everything start drowning. :(
+tae boom you need to relax and not thinking of the sharks around you, and your math teacher...

just relax or hold your breath
I wish I could teach you ;)
@xixamxsoxflyx You don't have to worry, I'm still alive :-)
