Many who have OCD struggle with the fear of staring at someone’s private areas. Some may just feel annoyed and distressed because they actually are doing it. Whether it’s in a TV show or in person. They start avoiding places because they don’t want to have to take the time and effort to avoid staring or looking. It’s not something they want to do, so of course, the brain is going to urge them to do it or throw out threats. Let’s go through what it looks like and how to stop staring.

Have you struggled with COMPULSIVE STARING before?
I'm still struggling. Been struggling for 8 years.
Me too
This was a theme for me for a while. I’ve been diagnosed with OCD since 2005 but just thought it was the rumination, orderliness, contamination - stereotypical things. Only last year did I learn that intrusive thoughts and relationship to trich/BFRB, and things like being afraid I was staring at someone inappropriately were related.
Learning that OCD was ego dystonic and intentionally picking things that were the opposite of my values was a game changer - I thought before that I thought I must be an awful person to be having all of these thoughts. Now I’m just like “oh, that’s just an OCD thought,” don’t attach any worth to it, and move on.
How do you deal with people covering their chest and groin because you just stared.
@@mariaadhiambo4738 maybe try and say you were just lost in thought and didn’t realize you were staring? I usually avert my eyes really quickly and just think/worry that I stared more so that I am actually staring...
My ocd has made me look to “check” to make sure I’m not attracted certain things. Now, through ERP, I KNOW I’m not attracted to these things I still have urges that I can’t resist to look. Then ocd tells me I only looked because I wanted to. It’s so distressing and confusing to live with ocd.

You can see why this would throw someone in to a big depression after it happened because of feeling deep shame and self disgust. Meetings or groups where you sit in a circle of chairs must be massively triggering

This was one of my first OCD themes when I was 10 and my anxiety around it was really bad. I felt like a sick and perverted person despite being a literal child. Luckily I am much more comfortable with that fear now so I don't feel the obsession/compulsion about staring anymore.

Aman, you are not alone. I am the same. I thought i was the only one .
Me too 🥹
I'm turning 22 this year and this is something I've been struggling with for most of my life. Since I was a teenager I had a bad experience that's made me feel ashamed and guilty for having the urge to look at women's bodies and I assumed all women secretly hate me because of it. Even now when I have lots of women friends who feel comfortable around me if they're wearing revealing clothing I'm terrified of offending them to the point of outright avoiding looking at them even when facing directly towards them. I fear that I'll accidentally glance at their chest and they'll despise me afterwards and never want to speak to me again. I prided myself on being a good and kind person but I always saw this as a character flaw. Of proof that I'm a bad person no matter what I do or how hard I try. I'm so glad I've found this and that I'm not alone in this. I want to be respectful to women but I don't want to hate myself while doing it.
Your topics reg OCD are very practical and your suggestions are also very effective Thank you bro love u❤️

Commit: To valuing people's privacy
Take action: Make eye contact instead of doing the compulsion to stare

See I have suffered from the same problem since 2022 and from 4-5 months I have solved it 90 percent. So what I did was I consulted a psychiatrist and told him that I am suffering from ocd, he gave me some medicines I took medicines for some 3-4 months after that I had no money left with me but I had learned to manage the problem almost 90 percent so see if you are studying in school or college you need to sit on the first bench and if someone is on your left then cover your corner of the left eye with your left hand and vice versa while walking on the streets you can cover some part of the eye or can run and cross the person in front of you. So you have to create your own ways to get rid of the problem. Hope this helps😊

hi nathan! thank you for talking about this, this theme has been bothering me a lot lately.
i wanted to ask if you knew about feeling like you're smiling at inappropriate events/thoughts. it often happens with harm thoughts or seeing awful things for me. i really dont want to smile, yet i feel like i'm about to, or even will. other people with ocd told me they experienced it, but i don't really understand it. i feel like it's similar to groinals, our body is reacting to the thoughts in that way because we don't want it to and we put too much focus on it.
You are right I am dude I am also suffering from sams thing. Can you tell me are you well know or if yes how did you treated it!

With Hocd i get repulsed when I stare because I know I don't like these people but I just look at their face, hair lips whatever just checking to see if I have a reaction. Its so odd. Like after I worry about omg i just looked at that person I have to be bi or whatever but In actuality I just like their make-up or their hair style but in the moment i get so anxious to the point I shake or cry so ive been avoiding watching tv, going outside or looking at people in the eyes. Im afraid my hocd is gonna make me like them out of nowhere. Its happened before and i cant talk to those people without thinking about it. It makes me so sad i Just want my friends back without me going crazy not knowing if im staring because i like them or something.
First and foremost all I can say is wow to be able to find this type of information where I don't feel so alone and perverted from having this problem that I find out others thousands of people share the same problem and that it's an anxiety related issue I am not homosexual nor am I a weirdo but I have struggled with this for quite some time as I am now an adult all the way back from my teenage years of looking at people's body parts mostly women due to the fact that women are attractive when they are in certain outfits or just have that type of figure the way most women dress nowadays exposing a lot but then at times just a casual dresser it's a habit it's like a a habit of just something that happens even when I don't want it to happen. I feel bad about it because I think of others and myself and I wouldn't want someone else to be looking at my body parts at the same time I believe it comes from self confidence of my silent shape I've always wanted to be bigger and for some reason I compare myself my body shaped to others especially in the gym or one with an athletic figure. I could go on and on of this topic and to realize it's a psychological struggle. It does not bother me to the point of being antisocial but it is a struggle when I'm talking with someone eye to eye face to face, I do my best too keep my attention straight but as usual it wonders in between. I've even considered to go to a nudist beach to be in the atmosphere I've never been in of everyone just being open and laid back where everything is exposed versus covered. I've never been one to like tucking in shirts where your antibody parts reflect through your clothing, if shaped awkwardly especially, I felt so weird thinking this but I realizing now discovering this it's not just me. Out of nowhere today I just decided to look up why I stare at body parts to see what I connect with the world and here we are......
You are the only person talking about this topic. Thank you. Have you ever come across anyone who fear eye floaters. I am told lots of people have these but until i became depressed. Some times i dont even notice them so i dont know if they are really there or if i am imagining them. What ever it this it has caused me to feel i want to die sometimes. I am trying so hard to not believe this . Please can you help or am i untreatable.
Im very depressed because of this, Ive been called every names you can think of. I wanna die sooner

Oh my god ! This is exactly how I fixed my social anxeity !
please share what helped 🫶
@@lovelybluntdoll Greetings , the way I changed the social anxeity is through 1. diaphragmatic breathing 2. Facing the anxeity : Gradually staying the social anxeity situations (begin with shorter duration and try to stay in that situation while slowing down everything you do , and go to a different environment for things to clam down) 3. Exercise (Allowing the body to move and stretch regularly in a relax manner makes a huge difference) 4. Be Brave and give time for the pattern to change. 5. Take a walk in nature once a while.
It will take time for social anxeity to change , and the pattern will try to crawl back from time to time , and time passes by , things will get better.
I hope thing will help everyone who is facing social anxeity , the most important thing is to be brave and face it.

I have suffered badly from ocd. It has fucked up my potential to realise my full potential in this life.
I realized too I could've been the better and motivated version of myself, but this OCD just sucked it all up
I have an extreme problem with staring especially when it comes to attractive people or interesting people. I’m always getting impulses to stare but I know that many neurotypical people see it as rude or a form of internal judgment but that’s not true. When I stare at people it’s usually because something about them interests me or attracts me. I wish I just could stare at people without seeming like a creep or rude. For some reason I also constantly have an impulse to stare at peoples groin‘s butts and breasts. Sadly in the Neurotypical world can be seen as creepy. Also when it comes to people who look different like people with disabilities or extremely obese people. I don’t hate them at all and neither am I bothered by them But some people take steering personally and I’ve heard many people especially obese people and people with disabilities expressed that staring makes them feel like they’re being judged and if they see it as rude. I’m not a creep or rude I’m just autistic and the urges are strong to stare.
wait. this is a thing. is this what i’ve been experiencing for the last 4 years ? my therapist said it was a trauma response. today i find out i am autistic and have starring ocd? you literally put it into words. “something interest me or i want to appreciate, it not because i’m judging or being a creep.” thank you!!!!

Same over here I'm 12 nearly 13 and my life has been a living hell because of OCD and it's so annoying
@@whambam849Are you improving with this ocd issue now?
i used to have this ocd, until i came up with something.
"if you look at people's private parts they're definitely gonna know"
what i did was i started devaluating this sentence with actually looking at people's private parts
BUT i would use the moments they weren't looking and i wouldn't stare to not make it obvious.
so try this, if you got this ocd whenever in your life, tell yourself that you HAVE to look at people's private parts. but only do it when it's not obvious and if you're having a conversation and this ocd kicks in tell yourself that i will look, but they're looking at me rn let me find the right time to do it. and then actually do it...
it's like a bitter medicine but it worked and over a time i actually forgot i had this ocd and the symptoms stopped.
and whenever it starts again i force myself to do this and it works...
(and just to add something.
if you feel bad about looking at people's private parts (like i did) i started sorting my thoughts in two categories. "active" and "passive" i call them.
so an active thought is when I'm thinking about something by my own will.
and passive is when my mind brings up thoughts by itself.
the difference is when you actively want to look at people's private parts you don't feel like you're under a pressure or anxious and...
that's passive thinking and when you want to push those thoughts away they'll only get stronger and you will feel more anxious.)
I thought im alone in this world and didn’t know a thousands of people have this too
I struggle with pocd...and I had no idea that staring was a form of ocd until today. I'm sure you can guess how much fun it is when these two form are combined...a lot of self doubt and anxiety filled days

Same here. Recently started dealing with these in the last 3-4 months. Constantly been dealing with other things like suicidal thoughts and worrying if I’m going to hurt myself or someone else along with other things. I get super sweaty and nervous because I don’t want to hurt myself or someone else, but the thoughts and images are so strong they seem real.
@@lukesigmon9601 i know man. I'm better than ever at dealing with the thoughts, but they still kill me sometimes. An instant way to ruin my mood and day. Even when you know it's just OCD, my brain says "NO! This one is real! Why did you think that. And if its not real, why did you look over at that person!?"
I struggle with the same thing dude, it's OCD. I promise, I've had great days but when I'm disregarding the thoughts or urges my OCD seems to get louder and feels like I'm fighting "who I am," when it's still OCD. We're in this together and I wanted to say you're not a lone in dealing with this.
The problem with this is that there are consequences to staring at private parts. If you let go, and stop caring, it’s not like it was all in your head. Many people will give you a dirty look , or get in a staring war with you, or maybe say something nasty or even say that you made them uncomfortable and they want you to stop, or just comment on what you’re doing, or get you fired from a job or reported to the police for sexual harassment .
It’s bullshit. Yes, police will consider a bullshit claim like staring. And in a job, it doesn’t matter whether it’s valid or not, you will be fired. So you can get in trouble regardless. Nothing serious will probably happen, but you might have to fight a complaint or explain what happened . And then you realize, okay, back to square one. I have to make sure I don’t stare at people.
Fr. I’m constantly composed to stare at people I wish that we didn’t have all these unspoken rules that say that you’re not supposed to stare at people because I’m constantly compose to do it and it’s a strong urge and if I do it I feel disgusted with myself and if I don’t do it I’m uncomfortable i’m not creepy and I don’t want anyone to think that I’m sexually harassing them or become uncomfortable with me
Hi thanks fro share information related with that OCD, I'm suffering from 5 year ago, I'm exhausted. Any support group in Sydney (Australia) specialist in that OCD. Thanks and all the best 😰🙂
thanks! Im going to do some ERP tonight!
Hi Nathan. Hope that all is well. Thanks for creating this channel and dedicating your time to helping others, your assistance is truly invaluable!
I have been dealing with HOCD (SO-OCD) for about 2.5 years now, only found out what was wrong with me at the beginning of 2020. I have been applying the relevant methods to manage the OCD, I have had good results. I have reduced the panic attacks and levels of anxiety.
However there is one compulsion that still persists. I tend to "blush" or get awkward facial expressions around any gay topics, interactions with males, or speaking about anything male related. I reckon that it started by having a fear of my thoughts being transparent (as usual, I thought that they were "real"), and I would perform a compulsion by trying to hide my "emotions" through attempting to control my facial expressions. Now the "blushing" just happens automatically. I'm a heart-on-my-sleeve type of guy.
For financial reasons, I do not have access to a health professional or medication.
Thanks again for everything. Stay safe and take care.
Hey dude same here I am also suffering from HOCD since 2020
This is the only video I can really find about this all of the other videos are about what to do when people stare at you or telling people not to stare but I feel like a horrible person for having the impulses and for actually following through with them
Hey Nathan , I am here to ask what's the difference between HOCD and questioning? Please tell 🙏
Going through this hurts especially the unsupported ones who are anti mental health
Dealt with this many times. My SSRI's help, but they don't always work.
I try to just accept that I'm having these intrusive thoughts and move on. Confessions don't work, it just fuels the OCD even more. I think the key, is to just let it pass by like it's radio static
Thank you so much am the victim of this kind of OCD disorder . the one thing that challenge be to fight my ocd is the comorbidity of depression i hop this video will help me !
I can help you. Just blur your vision when you are in conversation with eye contact. It’s like a shield for your eyes. It breaks the nervous tension.
@@yumyumdonuts1010 i dont know if this works, i been trying it but i feel like they notice me bluring my vision. i fucking hate this shit so much... why me😔

I’m so sorry…. I lost a few jobs as well and currently have been unemployed for 1 year. If you don’t mind me asking, are you currently working now? If so what job do you find most easy with this ocd staring?
try construction, wear dark sun glasses

I have this ocd but not only staring at private parts but also at everything has a value, like phones, bags, money... some people think that i want to steal their stuffs, I ve been strugling with this for 25 years, I cant anymore...
Stay strong ask the creator for help and guidance
I've been struggling w this for like 2 years. I noticed it started with me looking at the security guards crotch, then it passed to also staring my manager. I don't know where this came from but I'll assume is from being molested. I've suppressed this for the longest time and 4 years ago I started getting glimpses of all the shit that happened to me growing up. I had a mental breakdown that resulted in badly cutting myself (I've always self harmed but this one was way too deep) and ended up in the ward. I started some therapy but I was inconsistent. When I was ready to talk to my therapist about this my work insurance lapsed so I stop treatment altogether. This staring bs is ruining me. I work at a clinic there is a trigger since I wake up until I go to bed. I'm tired of it all. I wish I can master myself or at least be able to deal better with this. Too much people have been noticing. The anxiety of actually doing what the person recommends in the video towers over me even if I look on the tv I feel so disgusted w myself. Please God help me.
I too suffer.
I have learned alot of sleep helps, limiting caffeine and only christian music and TV.
Do you have any tips?
@@shanekent8621 no really, I just hope I don't get a sexual harassment case right now I would not be able to take it.
@@shanekent8621 have you thought about seeing a therapist? I'll be doing that soon.
Seek for OCD therapists.
Blur your vision sweet angle. It will break the nervous tension. Make ur vision blurry when talking with someone... just for a sec or 2 Trust me it works
I starred at it with confidence
12 mins video just to enroll your program
12 sec shorts would have been perfect
Man this video is so true, it made me uncomfortable
i love this to my death
Hey can you please make a separate video about curing this condition? I suffer from this, but I am too shy to see a psychologist
safe feeling of judgement and being on my records
I'm at freakin war with my own brain
Omg now I know the problem. I thought I was a perv and I'm the only one doing it. We kinda look at it even if we don't want.

I have been isolated since my childhood. I have had bad breath since I was eight years old and I am 32 today. From the age of 12 until today I have OCD compulsive staring. Life is not easy, it is a struggle and everyone has their own luck. I have many more good prospects, I thank God.

This very true
This advice is ok if your in a public place but not when your at work for example and what if you only do it whilst in converstaion.

3 years and counting for me, wbu?
This is an issue I've faced for so long, it's so relieving to find others that face this issue. Anyone know where I can find resources to further solve this issue and other OCD issues?
