I once had the Sonny Curtis album in the 1980s. Met him backstage at a late 1980s Ronnie Milsap concert, Crickets reunion opened for Milsap. Knew he'd also co-wrote "I Fought the Law" . Great meeting him as well as Jerry and Joe from the original Crickets. All were classy, down to earth fellas.

The "Who can turn the world on with her smile" verse was added in the second season, with the phrase "You might just" replaced with "you're gonna..." The producers obviously felt, after the first season, that Mary had, more or less "made it", so Sonny was notified to modify the lyrics to reflect this.

Fun fact: One of the original lyrics was changed to this version before the premier of the MTM Show Pilot.
The part: Girl this time you’re all alone.
The original: Girl you’ll be so far from home.
If you YT search the fall 1970 MTM Show preview, you can hear the original lyric before it was changed.

I am after years of abuse free from but till recent FINALLY FINALLY realizing just like Mary ""who I adored" that it's finally "time to do some living & let someone else do some giving". This is incredible posting! Ever since I found the radio post with this song, I bid on this 45 on eBay a week ago, and lost the auction thinking I was never going to hear a clean version. All of a sudden, 2 people post it! This is the clearest version I have heard. I like it so much better then the 1980 release. It's softer and sweeter, like Mary herself! It is interesting the the arrangement is sort of a combination of the 1st and 2nd season's themes. A transitional recording. Thank you.

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day
And suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you, girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around no need to fake it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
Love is all around no need to fake it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, and girl, this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving
Love is all around no need to fake it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're the one most likely to succeed
Just be sure to keep your head, 'cause girl, you know that's all you need
    Everyone around adores you
Don't give up, the world is waiting for you
Love is all around no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
Love is all around no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
Love is all around no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all

Growing up with Mary Tyler Moore on TV, and especially watching the show from 1970 to 1977, we kind of never thought of her as a role model, or having groundbreaking inroads for women. She was just good. She was there every week...and gorgeous! As a 15 year old growing up when the show first came out, it was just accepted that there was a women in a position like this....

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day
And suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all
How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all

This is definitely a different mix and pitch from the original score for the tv show. RIP MTM.

Thanks for finding this and posting it. Stereo!
My one minor criticism is that it sounds like it's slightly off-center. When I digitize a record, I always check to see that the grooves aren't "moving" back and forth. Just watch the tone arm.
Other than that - great! Good to hear a good copy.
