I just watched your channel for the first time today and subscribed. Then saw this video. My wife and I have been part-timers since December 2020 and have taken many shorter 5 to 9 day trips and then a few 3-week trips. Three weeks of vacation at one time is about all I can get with my job. When we come home after the 5 to 9 day trips, we get ants in our pants within a week and want to go back out there. When we get home after one of the 3-week trips, we are glad to be back home and the ants in the pants does not come for about a month. We have talked about going full-time when I retire, which could be tomorrow if we wanted. But then we think about how important it is to us that we have roots in someplace called home with a house to live in. And then there is our church community and close family friends that we have at home as well. We have decided that when I retired, we will downsize our home, and continue to RV travel part-time just like you described. When and where we want and for however long, or short, we want. And then come back to home.

We have been full timers for 6 1/2 years. No intention of stopping now. However, because we are workampers, we are stationary 5-6 months at a time. We then travel to our next destination and stay there for 5-6 months as well.
Maybe that’s a work around for you. Instead of moving every few days/weeks, or month, stay in one place for several months. Still plenty of time to see everything, but you’re not setting up/tearing down your stuff as often.
During that time, we’ve been to 42 states, 25 National Parks, and a ton of other really cool, beautiful places!

I’d buy an acre and set it up for your RV. Build a gazebo and set it up as an out door living space. Build a garden, maybe in a high tunnel. This way you can leave when the traveling bug hits you. It is maybe the least expensive way to live for now.

    So much truth!
I spent 18 months solo full-time in a Coach House Platinum 23’ with minimal issues and 1,000% standby, which was made possible by my choice to give up space for marine-grade fiberglass quality. Even at 15 years old, it was an exceptional RV.
I traveled 15,000 miles, including three months exploring the LTVA boondocking. Having friends and family in various regions helped me find spots for planned maintenance and a chance to breathe and get mail delivery. It’s a lot. Full-time is not a vacation but the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and a great adventure.
It's wild getting off the road and much more challenging than selling everything and getting on the road. It’s a crazy transition back into stationary- like being seasick after you get off the boat. You still see glimpses of RV life on the social media of the friends you made along the way, and sometimes, you long for the road.
I’m 53 now and turned 50 while on the road. I was the youngest among most people I met, and they all told me they wished they had done it at my age. The reality is that two of my tribe have since passed away, one in their RV.
I close on small sticks and bricks next week. It is 864 sqft with 240 sqft of 3-season patio. Friends think I’m banana pants and say it’s too small. It was one of the few houses I saw that didn’t feel too big or enclosed.
I doubt that I would ever not have a home to go back to again, not after having the world shut down two weeks into nomad life.
    And it's not quitting! It’s a pause.

For 10 years I have been dreaming of retiring and hitting the road full time. My wife was warming up to the idea (with the right rig of course). But now when I run the numbers it's just not as economical as it used to be. RV Park rents are skyrocketing, boondocking areas are full, BLM is raising prices for LTVAs, and there is more competition for available camping spots. Not to mention the prices of RVs these days. I thing RUclips vloggers oversold the RV full-time dream and now EVERYONE wants to do it. We have given up the full time dream and will now content ourselves with being part-timers.

    • @liferedesigned

South Carolina, is a great State as you well know. I would think that a good option for you might be investing in a duplex. The rental income you might generate off of one unit may come close to paying for the entire mortgage on both units while providing unto you the second unit to live in. Then it you desire to hit the road for extended periods of time, you may have the option to VRBO your unit for additional income. If you were to build a duplex on your own property, you could even build a separate outbuilding for storage space with a garage to store your camper while you’re home. Just my thoughts as to possible options which you might wish to consider.

Our plan is to have a place to call home in a retirement park. It isn't that expensive and when we need a change of pace from being on the road, we can go "home". We think that will work AWESOME. Just something to think about

I traveled full time for 5 1/2 years. Then i bought a piece of land for a home base to park my camper. It's 1,000 miles from my kids. The next year I bought a small house 1,000 miles south of the land. The house is 1,500 miles from my kids. I feel like I have the best of both worlds. I travel to see the kids 2 times a year by way of the land in the north. Winter at the house in the south. Travel east to see the family. About 2 months at each place. I am happy with this setup. I find that i still need to travel, not ready to stay still to long.

We have a travel trailer, actually, same model as yours. You helped us decide on which RV to get. Hubby has heart issues but when spring comes we will be traveling as much as possible in between appointments. We have downsized a lot. We have a home base, getting it prepared still for a place for the trailer to park while we are here. We have a small cabin we can stay in while we are at (home). You need to make yourselves happy. We can’t wait to hit the road. We plan on being gone for a month home for 2 weeks, then back out. We have quite a few things on our bucket list we need to get accomplished.

To give a different perspective. My girlfriend and I (both retired) like to spend 2 (3 or 4 week) road trips each year to see the country. We don't own a home, we rent an apt in the Greater Baltimore Md area,...so we just lock up the apt and start our journey. We always rent a car,...and stay at highly rated/mid-priced hotels along the way. This seems to work for us,....as about the time we are getting tired of traveling we just head back home,....walk back into the apt, and go back to our regular life.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  2 месяца назад

We have given serious thought to renting vs owning again. There is serious value in picking up a phone to have someone fix a problem than to have the burden fall completely on you - great point!

We love trips in our camper but will never give up our sticks and bricks. I enjoy being on my tractor and flying model airplanes. Plus, I get to do all my own maintenance on my camper beside my garage using all my tools. I also have full hookups for the camper at the house so guests visiting can use the camper. Good luck in whatever you do folks. Make it work for you and your style.

I know of another couple who went to a house and had to go back to FT traveling because missed it so much. Have you thought about a different style? Like get a campsite that can stay for a few months? Or rent a place for a year. Just to make sure you like if.

Listen guys, get a perminent residence and take the RV somewhere within 1 hour away from it like a national forest or state park. Dont travel out of state, stay close to home. Less wear and tear on the RV, you have the comfort of being close to home, can even make trips back home and back to the RV if its a pull behind. So much less hassle to do it that way vs travelling everywhere trying to find spots. Close to home you can scout locations easier before hand.

Well I had a entrance and an exit plan. Love the RVontheGO life and am enjoying this time. But! I am a realist. I’m a mom grandma and a home body. I have exit plans that include: renting a cabin in the mountains on the outskirts of a park with water. You could store your rv there also. I miss neighbors. Lunches with friends. Familiarity. There were some really fun parks that had reasonable priced manufactured homes within the community. It was affordable and again I can store my rv there. I even have considered a destination rv and having it placed in the park I want to live. If I want to move it is an option to have it moved. Good luck thanks for the honesty and help. Love to you both. Be grateful you had the courage to follow through with your dream and exit unscathed. It’s a harsh world. No accidents illness or injury. I will miss you both❤️

RVing is fun, but doing it full time and a lot can be strenuous. You can still do RVing for a month or two or more and then go to the house for the rest of the year, and during that time, go on a cruise as well. If you are going to do that, my advice is to put security cameras on your house so you can monitor everything around it while you are gone and have the Post Office hold your mail. I have heard some people sell their houses to full time RV only to regret selling the house a year or two later.

We have been full time for seven years. 72 when we started and now 79. My health finally caught up to us. We love that we did it and have no regrets. Our 5th wheel has been a disaster. But we owe too much to get out from under it so we will have to live in it ten more years until it’s paid off. We didn’t do our homework before purchasing or even had an inspection. We started out on a fixed retirement income. Camp grounds were around 30 bucks diesel was a couple bucks and groceries were reasonable. All that changed. Do please do your homework before going full time. It’s a chance of a lifetime to see this beautiful country and visit friends and relatives you may not otherwise be able to. We are very blessed to have had this journey. Best Wishes

I started following you since your renovations on the Mico Mini.. And then subscribed when you purchased the same 22mle TT and year model we have. At the start I had commented about buying a lot or RV lot where you can see yourself spending time and strategically located if that matters? I don’t see ourselves full timing all year long. But at least 6 mths out of the year how ever that adds up in a calendar year. My wife most likely could still be working due to retirement and she being 5 years younger. But appreciate your honesty and you may stop for a while. And once both fully retired it will take on a whole new meaning of joy.

You guys are still young. As you head into your 60s, especially if health issues arise, being close to doctors, family, church and friends and having the security of a paid-for home base may become more important than freedom & travel. Thats what ive seen by watching other rv youtubers over the past several years. We have a tiny camper and a Thousand Trails camping pass. We live within 4 hours from several TT parks. While wed love to travel the USA, we go out for short spurts ( up to 18 days at a time) and explore the areas surrounding those few parks. Phone hot spots for hubbys pt online teaching retirement job. Home base + times to explore. Security & familiarity + (limited) adventure. Works for us.

Thanks for the great video. We thought about full timing it but then felt it would be better to split it up to always to keep it interesting. Do maintenance, etc.. My wife and I will be retiring next May, spending our summers at our cabin in Maine, then traveling south during the fall and winter. As soon as the snow melts away, we’ll be back watching the loons on the lake :)

Well, guys, it's funny I remember not too long ago when you were in the bed and breakfast and moving the kids closer, you couldn't wait to get back on the road. I was full-time for 2.5 years, and I thought I would retire and travel and just have a ball. Guess what life threw us a curve ball, and my daughter had a baby at 40 years old, a little girl, her first girl having 3 boys, all of them in their twenties. Well, my wife wasn't going anywhere, and we all settled down in the Idaho Falls area I'm glad we did all my kids and grandchildren are within a one-hour drive, and I have my garage shop back, and my wife has her crafting room back. We still have our motorhome and are planning some tripos, but no more full timing. I think being a hybrid is a perfect balance.

This video was very thought-provoking. Lots of issues I also have been grappling with. I am really just starting my rv lifestyle journey and trying to decide what is best for me. My husband and I have had travel trailers and only boondocked for the past 30 years. I just bought my first motor home two years ago and have been dipping my toe in trying to decide what is the best fit for me. My husband likes to occasionally take a trip but really hates the journey so has no interest in traveling much. I am obsessed but could never be away from my adult kids and grandkids for long. I am thinking the best fit is going to be a hybrid lifestyle. I have been doing every other week. Home one week, travel one week. Of course, all the nearby states are quickly running out so I am thinking of doing a long (maybe a month or two) trip next summer and we shall see if I like it.

For us (mostly me, my wife never gets health issues) I enjoy being near my mom for elder care with early Alzheimers and then my own health issues as I age, we need the continuity of care. We now have a seasonal site at our favorite campground just a few hours away in northern Wisconsin. We’re also doing home improvements to enjoy our sticky bricks. Another consideration is property equity. (Campers rarely increase the in value, LOL) I believe Memories make up most of who we are. Make positive meaningful memories with those you want to be remembered by. Let that help guide your decision. Good Luck!

We sold everything as you did and went full time. We were "out there" for two and a half years. Then we settled down again and now keep our Airstream in the back yard for weekend adventures. Lately, we have discussed a repeat of that adventure. It seems we fell into the average time that most full time travelers move around before they start to consider getting off the road and for all of the reasons you mention. We didn't have an precise exit plan for settling down again when we left the first time. The lack of said plan holds us back from round two. In our case, perhaps ignorance is bliss. Good luck!

This track is probably moving twenty hours a day. 6 days a week.. He claims the only computer.. That will work for him.. Is a mac.. All the other computers do not.. Because of all the bouncing.. Do you work for about month or so... Before the computer needs reform mating.. Have you found this to be true ?

I have never been a full time camper (RV or otherwise) but I have grown up in the Navy and moved every 2ish years like clockwork the first 15 or so years of my life. Two and half years after Dad retired I was ready to pack it all up and hit the road, only we couldn't afford it. Two and some years after that I was finally content to stay in the same area. Six years after that and I was quipping that 'like fine wine I do not travel well'. Now it would take a stick of dynamite to get me to move. I guess you could say that once I figured out the benefits of sticking in one place absolutely nothing could entice me to take back all the negatives of traveling that I am very familiar with from my childhood. Now an occasional camping trip during excellent weather and a good book is more than sufficient to satisfy any desire to explore. In short, you might get the itch to hit the road, or you might decide to sell off the RV and try owning a cabin - or put the RV on land and staying put. I'm sure you'll find something that works great for you.

My wife and I went full-time 7 years ago. However, we are stationary about 48 weeks of the year. We stay in an RV park in our hometown that’s about 5 miles from the house we lived in for 33 years. We just try to take our RV on vacation a couple of times a year. I’ve wanted to take longer vacations (2-3 months) and go west to see things and places I would love to see and experience. The main thing that keeps us from doing this is I don’t want to be away from my 16 year old grandson for that long. 😁

Yes, we were full-time for a little over a year and just came back to living in a house in August. Can't tell you how much the wife and I want to go back on the road (especially since it's so cold here now! 🥶). HOWEVER... the little squatches in our household wanted the stability back of being in one place, doing sports, going back to school, and playing with their friends. And, truthfully, that's what I would have wanted at that age too.
But someday we will go back on the road, at least for half of the year. Bigfoot Mom wants to have a home base, even if just a small place to live during the summer. We're about 10 years behind you two. #longtermgoals

You forgot one item on your list - in order to move around you need a pickup truck and they require maintenance and repairs. The newer ones are much more expensive and much less reliable than they used to be , and are chocked full of high tech gadgetry that you don't really need and is very expensive to repair.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  2 месяца назад

So, a couple of things. Firstly, our "list" is uniquely to us as it is our journey. We feel the same about trucks as we do about RV's. We bought both new and have had very minimal issues. Of course, there will always be people yelling and screaming about the quality of both and the high cost of repairs - Usually, they are the ones that bought without research, abuse the equipment and then want perfection. Us being on the road full time - we see it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Oh no, not triggered at all my friend - just stating truth. RUclips has turned into a cesspool of people complaining that EVERYTHING is trash and made to break, when the reality is that most have lost common sense. We used to be a world of problem solvers, now we are world of complainers and love to bask in peoples failures. All one has to do is look at what videos get the highest views - you never see any positive video do as well as a negative one.
That has always infuriated us with RUclips over the past couple of years - so whenever we get the chance to tell the truth we do. :)
