      Viserys and Otto Hightower both were setting the stage for disastrous long term developments but also kept others from making disastrous short term decisions. You would not want them to go for fear of what is to come but in hindsight would not want to them to have held their positions in the first place.

      Otto deserved that. He betrayed Viserys by giving him the Milky Drug which he knew would limit his life, and it did. Under the influence of that drug that makes you true to what you say next, Viserys said he wanted Aegon to be King, but not Alicent's Aegon. But Rhaenyras. Viserys thought he was talking to Rhaenyra. It's a shame. Alicent didn't even talk to Rhaenyra about it either she just made Aegon 2 the King but that wasn't the Aegon he wanted on the throne. It was Rhaenyras.
      All the Greens, except for Helaena, were as deluded as their King. Although the Blacks, as did the Greens, may have suffered many casualties, I'm glad Rhaenyra's bloodline and the Blacks were the Targaryens to rule over decades. I haven't forgotten about that Mad King either. I know he's from the Blacks, but regardless of who won in the war, the Greens would've destroyed everyone if they hadn't won against the Blacks. Aegon 2, the King in this show, was never a good king.

      @@t-rexcellentreviews1663 actually it was. The greens would have unironically made for a more stable goverment then the blacks. Otto was an insanely skilled hand , and pretty much held most of the power , even during viserys's rule.
      Not only that , but otto realized that a king without heirs would create insability in the kingdom , and by pushing alicent into visery's bed , he unironically strenghtened the targaryans by giving him 3 possible heirs. Not only that , but sharing blood with the hightowers , the targaryans would have benefited from the unwavering loyalty of one of the biggest houses in the realm. That was objectively the best choice for both the realm , and house targaryan.
      Viserys was an idiot who threw that oportunity down the thrash , and pretty much singlehandetly destroyed his legacy , and his family with it. He should have named aegon as his heir , and be done with it......similary to how he was named as heir instead of rhaenys (because a much wiser king then him realized what would happen if a woman were to be made heir in a society in which the law of the land is that male heirs are succesors).

      The best part about him is that he actually kinda sucks at playing the game. He's not very good at winning over people's loyalty, or manipulating them, or even correctly guessing how they'll react to what he does, all because he can't conceive of how anyone else besides him would be thinking. So many of his moves and plans right up to the end of his life only make sense if everyone involved is the exact kind of calculating and sociopathic that he is, and that mistake is what ultimately comes back to split him in two.

    • @sergio_os
      @sergio_os 7 месяцев назад +13

      Otto was never a master schemer, he just had to deal with poorer schemers than himself.
      His whole situation with Daemon is the first proof.
      Daemon had the stronger claim as heir by the beginning of Viserys' reign by the same precedent that gave Viserys his crown, and Otto made Daemon his archenemy.
      All his attempts to push Daemon away from the Crown just gave him more power. He then supported Rhaenyra, and when Viserys finally decided to name her the heir for all the realm to see just to piss off Daemon, Otto then started a whole new scheme engaging Alicent to Viserys.
      And then he changed his mind again, trying constantly to male Viserys name Aegon as heir, not Rhaenyra, which he defended with all his strenght years before that, which led to him losing his position as Hand for the first time.
      He wanted Aegon on the throne but never bonded himself to his grandchildren. And failed to read Aegon correctly, which led for him wanting a path different from the king.
      He was as a Hand the same as Viserys as a King. If you look with no details he was good, but once you try to see what he really made.... well 🤢🤮.

    Otto isn't protecting Rhaenyra. He's aware that half the realm, including the very honorable and popular Starks, has declared for her cause. Killing her like that could rally countless houses immediately, instantly starting the war everyone but these two bozos was trying to avoid.
    They'd just rally behind Daemon and there'd no longer be even the smallest chance of peace on the table.
    Generally he's not opposed to the idea of killing Rhaenyra, but there's a proper way for it. Which is why he wanted to do it before word goes out that Viserys is dead, so there's not even an ember in the air about her right to the throne.
    Assassinating a royal rival at this point is a political catastrophe, especially when it cannot be proven that Jaeherys' death is on said rival's hands.
