Otto Hightower: I'm surrounded by fools, incomptents, and brutes who tarnish every plan for a peaceful rule! King Vizzy T from the grave: NOW you understand!!!
I am 100% enjoying the green family dynamics because of how dysfunctional they all are. Aside from Daemon the blacks are mostly a functional family but Otto failing to control the trainwreck that is his grandchildren is amazing.
Damn. Even though we know Otto is the villain and master schemer to the Green’s usurpation, these clips actually make me feel sorry for him. He’s surrounded by newbs and dunces. How this man hasn’t started hitting the bottle yet is beyond comprehension. In another universe, he probably would’ve said ‘f*** this’ and moved to Braavos 😂.
Otto was never a master schemer, he just had to deal with poorer schemers than himself. His whole situation with Daemon is the first proof. Daemon had the stronger claim as heir by the beginning of Viserys' reign by the same precedent that gave Viserys his crown, and Otto made Daemon his archenemy. All his attempts to push Daemon away from the Crown just gave him more power. He then supported Rhaenyra, and when Viserys finally decided to name her the heir for all the realm to see just to piss off Daemon, Otto then started a whole new scheme engaging Alicent to Viserys. And then he changed his mind again, trying constantly to male Viserys name Aegon as heir, not Rhaenyra, which he defended with all his strenght years before that, which led to him losing his position as Hand for the first time. He wanted Aegon on the throne but never bonded himself to his grandchildren. And failed to read Aegon correctly, which led for him wanting a path different from the king. He was as a Hand the same as Viserys as a King. If you look with no details he was good, but once you try to see what he really made.... well 🤢🤮.

When he said "Gods help us all..." he knows very well that if his kingsguard succeeds, Daemon, Jace and Rhaenys will attempt to burn down the Red Keep with them inside. If he does not succeed, he will have a dead kingsguard, and another murder charge on their backs.Which still means more war incitations.

Otto was much quicker to lose patience with his king than Tywin, imagine if he got this angry at Joffrey at the first sign of madness and only got angrier from there
I think it's because of the "mad" king having a dragon and their enemy having multiple of them ,their hero and best bet aemond is a certified kinslayer with the most Grand among dragons and his enemy Daemon being daemon Who isn't exactly gifted with the morale compass of a Rob Stark coming instead closer to a Stannis with the backing of half of westeros isn't exactly a very merciful guy😅,especially since he believes otto to be a kingslayer and his Brother's killer.
It’s like Tywin almost when Joffrey took Ned stairs head except he worked with it and just became even more ruthless with his enemies. Otto has a plan but when it messes up he seems to have a hard time adapting
They were both in a slightly different situation. Tywin had to eliminate his opponents as quickly as possible, while Otto focused on getting as many people as possible to support the Greens and and keeping his allies united
Is easier for Tywin, having a bigger army and all that. Otto dosn't even have his own army, his influence is purely political. Worth remembering how much luck Tywin had too. Between the Baratheon brothers being dumbasses and ducking out and Balon Greyjoy being an even bigger dumbass.
Completely different. Joffrey wasn’t old enough to be king in his own power yet. He couldn’t do the same things that occur here and strip Tywin of his office. He had a regency, which allowed Tywin to control everything. Otto doesn’t have that because Aegon is already old enough.
Despite hating him and basically all of the greens (Except Heleana and her kids) I can't help but feel a little sorry for Otto. But, he started this shit now he's got to deal with it.

Killing her like that could rally countless houses immediately, instantly starting the war everyone but these two bozos was trying to avoid. They'd just rally behind Daemon and there'd no longer be even the smallest chance of peace on the table. Generally he's not opposed to the idea of killing Rhaenyra, but there's a proper way for it. Which is why he wanted to do it before word goes out that Viserys is dead, so there's not even an ember in the air about her right to the throne. Assassinating a royal rival at this point is a political catastrophe, especially when it cannot be proven that Jaeherys' death is on said rival's hands.

He knows Viserys was adamantly against Aegon being his heir for most of Aegon's life, and the only reason Viserys might have changed that view over time was through Otto's machinations. Lords who haven't declared for Aegon were unlikely to do so anyways. Rhaenyra dying isn't going to change that.
The lords who fully supported Rhaenyra wanted war and are more likely to support Daemon cause he wants war as well.
They don't want to support Aegon cause he usurped the throne, meaning he didn't follow the laws. Aegon is proof that their own titles could be easily usurped, which is what lords fear the most.
Daemon wouldn't fight with Jace. He has too much power and no one would support Jace without Daemon supporting him.
Otto knows that Daemon is far worse to fight against than Rhaenyra. The man just can't wait to burn everyone.
Otto is mvp of this season so far change my mind

Otto's bemused snicker at Aegon will forever stay with me as a top tier moment of acting in either GoT or HOTD
I read it two ways:
1. Viserys never named you king, you disgusted him and it was all a lie to give us power.
2. I MADE YOU KING YOU F@cking TROGLODYTE
That laugh followed by the "is that what you think?" Was just peak for me. Bro was so done with the stupidity.
*amused
You gotta hand it to Aegon's actor: throughout every one of his interactions with Otto, you don't know if he's being either over-confident, dumb, insane, or just plain mocking his grandfather out of spite
He’s a teenage king - I’m guessing all of the above.
Otto is as exhausted by white haired Targaryens as Robert was with blonde Lannisters
"I'm too old for this shit" in a nutshell
Also, the "Sir Creston Cole" part is just GOLDEN
Otto at this point probably thinks that keeping daeron in old town away from his family is the best decision he ever made
Otto got what his wanted - his own grandchild on the Iron Throne. But there was an issue. And then there were more of them, and then he realized he should have held his ambitions in check and still support Rhaenyra
He shouldn't have killed Vizzy T. He should have supported Rhaenyra even if she married Daemon.
@@TheElochaihe didn’t kill him lol
@@ThomasMees He helped it along.
Right.
@@TheElochai I think Rhaenyra marrying Daemon was the point of no return for the Greens. Before that, they might have been able to back out and mend relationships, but with Daemon invested in Rhaenyra's claim Alicent's children would never be safe, even if Rhaenyra herself might have shown them mercy.
That added scream was perfect.
The Tywin Lannister of his time. He was so good at playing the game yet his children were so stupid that fucked it up every time. He's like a man ahead of his time who is just disappointed at how everyone is so far behind him
Alicent (at least in the show) is far from stupid. She's not Cersei.
The best part about him is that he actually kinda sucks at playing the game. He's not very good at winning over people's loyalty, or manipulating them, or even correctly guessing how they'll react to what he does, all because he can't conceive of how anyone else besides him would be thinking. So many of his moves and plans right up to the end of his life only make sense if everyone involved is the exact kind of calculating and sociopathic that he is, and that mistake is what ultimately comes back to split him in two.

Otto: Well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions…
Otto should have bonded with Rhaenyra and made her Queen the reign would have continued in peace
Viserys being unintetionally funny in season 1 and now Otto in season 2 LMFAOOo
If you look with no details he was good, but once you try to see what he really made.... well 🤢🤮.
Nah, he would have moved to the Summer Isles, man needs a permanent vacation
His fault for thinking that he might change into something else
He is not a villain.

Otto was literally the audience in this episode. He won me over this episode.
As a member of the audience why would I want to see more of nothing than the war moving along?
Otto was much quicker to lose patience with his king than Tywin, imagine if he got this angry at Joffrey at the first sign of madness and only got angrier from there
I think it's because of the "mad" king having a dragon and their enemy having multiple of them ,their hero and best bet aemond is a certified kinslayer with the most Grand among dragons and his enemy
Daemon being daemon Who isn't exactly gifted with the morale compass of a Rob Stark coming instead closer to a Stannis with the backing of half of westeros isn't exactly a very merciful guy😅,especially since he believes otto to be a kingslayer and his Brother's killer.
When you play Monopoly with family and you go from winning to bancrupcy pretty fast
That gangsta's choir made my soul sing

He seemed to forget that Aegon is his own person and that he will make his own choices. He can’t always be a puppet.

@@spottedslash4256 Maybe check up on your investment every once and a while before you crown it. People compare him to Tywin, he is a Cersei at best(why wont my golden boy listen to me :(((( ).
Otto isn't protecting Rhaenyra. He's aware that half the realm, including the very honorable and popular Starks, has declared for her cause.

One way or another, regardless of whether Viserys named him heir or not, Aegon was made king (and also just made in general) directly because of Otto. Which I think he's seriously starting to regret.
