I feel like people like you who bring that up completely forget the AMERICAN side of things. She’s American, so there’s a whole different set of meanings and history applied to dreadlocks.
A weird and very radical example I can give is the swastika, before hitler it had a completely different meaning and feelings surrounded by it. After hitler that meaning changed for many people but SPECIFICALLY Europe. Some people in Asia may still look at it as a symbol of peace, but that DOES NOT mean the symbolism it has for Europe is meaningless or dismissible.
Same with black hair, before it was just a hair style, and in many cultures it still is. But for America, it has much more history. Segregation and racism played a big role in that, and there’s still hair rules today because of it.
So yes. There’s two sides of the story to this. That doesn’t mean yours is more correct than the other, it just means you have to look more closely to the situation to decipher which is which.
So, now explain why your side of history means ANYTHING when talking about the AMERICAN politics of it? Because a small part of Asia regards the swastika as peaceful; you’d feel nothin wrong with wearing a shirt with a swastika on it in Germany?

    Just some information
    Uhm black people didn't
created dreadlocks as a hairstyle. I mean
everybody can have dreads. You can have
dreads if you don't wash or comb your hair
for days. For example look at the junkies,
whether there black or white © dreads
    existed since the egyptian times
Egyptians are the earliest known culture to
    use them, but Native Americans,
Mongolians, and Norse people (who would
be considered white) also have history
going back 100s of years with use of
    dreadlocks

    • @seauxalana6785
      @seauxalana6785 2 года назад +9

It seems as though you're going out of your way to make a point that takes away from the bigger picture. Whether or not Black people invented locs, it is inextricably linked with Black people in a way that does not impact any other racial group. Black people are denied employment, banned from participating in certain sporting events, and derogatorily stigmatized for having locs. Other people can go and get locs and it be considered 'cool' and 'different' while many use the hairstyle on Black people as a means to judge their cleanliness, moral standing, ability to be professional, and overall work ethic. In the larger social conversations about dreads, nobody else is being targeted nearly as much as Black people and making a point to say that it isn't something we invented is truly irrelevant when there are major societal consequences at stake.

There is a difference between the locs that are seen with black people and the braids some norse tribes created. The protective hairstyle you see on black people are vastly different than the braids that norse tribes have. If you cared to learn you would have found white people that do norse braids and listen to them explain that they are not black hairstyles and should not look like a black hairstyle.
