Genuinely one of the best live sounding bands of all time. Ashcroft's voice and Mcabe's insane ability to make a guitar cry together creates such passion and energy. The fact they've never earned £1 from Bitter Sweet Symphony due to the Rolling Stones greed is a crime
It wasn't a part that was written by Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Bill, so they couldn't have sued Ashcroft/The Verve. The controversial sample was only Todd Oldham's own orchestral arrangement of the Rolling Stones hit, "The Last Time", so Mick et al. didn't lead the rush to sue Richard Ashcroft/The Verve. Instead, it was Todd Oldham & the Rolling Stones' manager Allen Klein who launched court proceedings against Ashcroft/The Verve. Interestingly, Oldham & Klein also proceeded to legally add Mick & the boys' names to the songwriting credits for the iconic string part, even though it was Oldham who wrote it. This meant that Oldham, Mick & the boys got the royalty payments from "Bitter Sweet Symphony". However, after Klein passed away in 2019, Mick et al. used their newfound legal stamp on the song to end the issue...they reversed the effects of the court ruling, by agreeing to pass future royalties to Ashcroft/The Verve. So Ashcroft/The Verve have been collecting royalties for "Bitter Sweet Symphony" for the last 3 or 4 years.
Yes that is controversial…. But if you clump “love is noise” and “Sit and wonder” together might concur!! lol. But I’m a heavy Verve guy who loves urban hymns…. So what does that say .. and I’m a Yank! 🤙🏽

Oasis can never get close to Ashcroft or the verve , Liam Gallagher was asked in an interview I seen as to why Ashcroft wasn’t supporting him at his knebworth recent gigs, his reply was ‘ how can I go on stage after Richard Ashcroft.’ I’ve seen oasis and they are no comparison to the verve and the genius and the sound the verve made !! Brand new song at that time. But the crowd is feeling it and more important the band is feeling it. Look at them. Richard's, Simon's, Nick's and Pete's energy. They blew Glastonbury to another dimension. They were at their height again. Too bad they couldn't continue their journey :(. Maybe someday we'll see them again
The verve will always be the best group in history They get it in their music, speaks to your heart and soul about what you go through in your mind or in your life about love about lifes hurts their music needs to be on our radios of the USA more even though they’re not making music right now, but the oldies speak to the heart love them miss them. They will be legends forever.
Recent performances at Glastonbury are so lackluster compared to this. This was absolute fucking magic. I echo other sentiments here - easily one of the best Glasto performances ever. A lot of the crowd didn't even know this song (as it was off their yet to be released new album) and they still went mental. Shows how good The Verve are!
Can't believe this is nearly twenty years ago. So fucking good. They came back out of nowhere, effortlessly nailed that big stadium vibe, and fucked off again. Meanwhile we've been left with Coldplay, Editors and The Killers, gg.
I found this song a little while ago, even though I’ve been listening to The Verve around 3 years ago. What a tune mate! This band keeps surprising me with their bangers

Ano for some reason the energy in this and how full the instruments sound is amazing! Amazing. My fave ashcroft song too!
Rob spot on. The energy is unreal. The Verve had this ability to take it to another level in their live performances. 👌

Oh, man, I'm so jealous that you were there. This is among the top performances I wish I had attended.
What happened to this band is one of the greatest injustices in modern music.
They absolutely killed it at Glastonbury. They don't get enough credit for it. Mind blowing at the time and still to this day.
yeah stunning performance .
This is easily one of the best performances at Glastonbury
I must of watched this about 100 times most underrated artist in modern times effortless
Epico.
Richard completely mixed the lyrics but I guess nobody noticed....what a legend!

Richard Ashcroft: "Yes!"
Haha!!!!

Totally agree , well done
That transition from bittersweet to love is noise ... goosebumps every time
Love it
Shame that there are no combined version out there anymore.
Yeah insane❤
This song never got the appreciation it deserved. One of the best ever imo
Still played at the end of every Wigan Athletic match..... :)
The shortest comeback from a band. Reformed in 07, gone by the Autumn of 08 when they could have conquered the world, again.

Compared to the Roses' comeback though
Why did they split up again?
@@arranmelaugh5606 I heard something about the band having complications when rumors arose that Ashcroft was only there to benefit his solo career.
